Replying To SmokieRoss:  "Bernard Flynn has Stephen O Neill (Tyrone), Noel Flynn s&c who was with Ross in 2019, plus an ex Clare coach to name but a few.

Davy Burke has no names per say on his backroom team per say and will only assemble if appointed. He has sounded out a few Roscommon coaches/selectors.

Brendan Hackett has Colm Nally (Louth) a very good coach by all accounts, an ex dublin player who is from Ballymun. Obviously Hackett has connections with Ballymun after winning Dublin title two seasons ago.

Pat Flannagan has Gerry McGowan Sligo, Ja Fallon Galway, Pascal Kellaghan plus two current Roscommon coaches whonare currently coaching teams."
While most seem to want Burke to get it from the limited options available (myself included), his lack of a backroom team definitely won't help his cause if that's true. If he's gone in there with that attitude of "I won't bother unless I'm given it" it doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Ian Daly had his chance. He was our defensive coach and we were ok the first year but can't say he done much to improve us

Obviously no one in the County bar Flanagan was interested.
Seems it's between Flynn with a backroom team and Burke without one.
Has Flynn ever managed a County or decent Club?

Mullingar Shamrocks and Meath u20's according to the ever reliable Wikipedia...

Also stepped down as Meath u20s boss after falling out with Andy McEntee over access to players

There are managers in the county who have managed ros to all ireland finals plus a number of various fromer players who have varying degrees of management/coaching experience.

One of the main issues i would have with him is he has left 3 of his last 4 jobs after a year and the other one after 2 years. Do we really want to back here in 12 months looking for another manager.

Rumour Flynn has pulled out now!
We really need a longer term down home manager who will manage the process of rebuilding to 2025.
A lot of lads approaching 30, a lot of football mileage etc could see a lot of retirements in a short timeframe.
Someone getting the 19-21 year olds S&Cd and integrating them into Senior rather than an outsider who'll stick with the names and then fly off after one year if things don't go well.

Both managers in the county final, Dolan, Ryan, Duggan, Nolan, Don C, Dineen, tully, fod, Casey maybe C Cregg plus a few more would all be better than some of the outside names been linked.

That is true especially if 12 months time if the Kildare job was to come up.

Name the few more as none of those was really options.

Both managers in county final are still learning the ropes in management. Dolan will be a selector on Dunnings U20 team.

Let's be honest Nolan, Duggan, Ryan are selectors at best. Casey, Dineen weren't going to be interested after the way both was treated the last time.

Fergal has agreement in place to stay on with Tourlestrane for another year and won't be too keen to return after what happened 2016. Don respectfully declined. The county board removed Tully from the U20 position so they weren't going to appoint him senior manager.

Most of them are achieved as much as some of the external names reportedly been interviewed for the job. At leaast all of them have a good knowledge of Roscommon football. Whoever wins the county final will have won as much as 2 of the external candidates for example. Surely it is the job of the county board to make it attractive to people.

Spoke to FOD earlier in week and he is not staying with Tourlestrane for another year and it is a mutual arrangement and he is not interested in being a lead person over a team again. FoD with this current panel isn't an option as a lot wouldn't play for him. In relation to the other names listed let them do a stint as manager with an underage county team or development squad or even a club team. The only name I would consider to have any merit as a county senior manager from the names listed above is Nigel Dineen and people forget he was a coach with Sligo fairly recently.

I don't see how county board got rid of Liam Tully with u20 seeing as his 3 year term was up and it went back to the clubs for nominations as to which he was nominated again by a number of clubs but declined the interview offer as did some other nominees.

Brendan Hackett is the favourite for the job at this juncture and has assembled a decent backroom team apparently. Davy Burke has seen his support lessen and that is down to his limited experience and his style of management.

If you ever spoke or asked Fergal O'Donnell you would know he has no issue with the current panel his issues lie elsewhere. When he joined Tourlestrane a gentleman agreement was for two years.

Tully like Dineen before him with the U21s in 2014 if the county board really wanted him to stay they would have added a extension to the agreed term deal and than making them apply for the job again. Brendan Hackett hasn't managed inter county team for over a decade and that was our neighbours in Div 2 and very short lived.

That's probably true however the main point/debate here is discussing the actual candidates that have been interviewed and the county board have not made it attractive for locals at all. As for Cian Smith,John Rogers hopefully both build on this year, both young managers and more than ever we need good young managers coming through.
