Yes that's not a problem until its the GAA ! just like the skirts for the comogie players , while there wasn't a whisper about women hockey! is it that the all of poor old me sad people gravitate towards the GAA.The only possible gripe remaining is maybe the colour of the grass.Times, dates. location and even what teams should be allowed are all questioned at differing times during these ongoing performances.

Oranmore Maree with another U19A county title. Beating Claregalway by 9 points. Some production line they have going at underage there. Hasn't fed through to the senior side yet though. The biggest challenge in a way is developing those young players into good senior footballers. Marooned (Galway) - Posts: 2445 - 16/10/2025 00:00:53 2640224 Link 0 |

I think the problem is 2 many different sports in the area, look at the year there intermediate footballers had absolutely shocking and they had been tipped as one of the fav to win it! With the volume of people living in this area they should be competing a lot better in the intermediate grade,

Claregalway themselves are possibly the poster boys for this issue. They were winning North Board Minor A's for fun there a few years back. They're an established senior club now off the back of it, in fairness, but aren't threatening to replicate that extensive minor/u21 success at senior level.

Ya totally agree a decade ago it was Claregalway & Salthill will be winning and competing in cunty finals between them. salthill might end the drought saturday week. Oranmore were among favorites in intermediate and ended up bottom and in a relegation fight. No doubt there is a pool of talent there and they will surely make the step up to senior soon but in my opinion will have plenty of work to do to compete for Frank Fox. In hurling they are a well established Senior A team now and will hope to continue to improve. Eire89 (Galway) - Posts: 447 - 16/10/2025 14:25:52 2640301 Link 0 |

In regards Claregalway I seen roll of honour in minor Claregalway have only won 2 county finals in total Oranmore definitely the coming club in both codes have won minor and under 20 hurling and under 19 football and by all accounts are as good as shoe in for minor football as well eventually it will come through to adult I think Kickitout (Galway) - Posts: 1110 - 16/10/2025 17:20:31 2640326 Link 0 |

It's an interesting conversation about Underage success especially Minor/u19/u20/u21 success and how it correlates to Senior success. Corofins dominance was built on the back of many Minor (u18) land u21 titles in the 90s and 00s that started the juggernaut it is today. Moycullen won a county Minor A in 2013 and quite a few were on the side that made the breakthrough in Senior. MM won a Minor A in 2014 and also went into win FF . Salthill won numerous from 2015-2020 which seems to be the back bone of this team. St James won two minors As in the 00s which back boned the team to get up to senior. Same with St Michael's. Claregalways success is probably the only one that it's hard to make a case for when they got to senior (have they made a senior semi final yet?). If we look at the senior county championship winners of the past 25 years is there any who haven't had minor or u19/20/21 A success ? Killererin maybe on the early 00s. I think they won an u21 A around 2009/10! Could be wrong about that.

Well said. Every year it's the same line, Claregalway are coming, it's only a matter of time. And every year they flop at senior. Underage medals mean nothing when they meet men. They can't handle real physical football. They've been a "coming team" for eight years and still haven't done a thing. Too small, too soft, and it shows every time the pressure comes on. Salthill are a big physical team, like Corofin, Moycullen and the rest of the top teams. In senior football you need at least half your team to be big, physical men, and Claregalway don't have that. They're still relying on the small silky footballer, which may work at underage, but when a 19 year old meets a seasoned 29 year old it's a different story. This could be Salthill's year, but I don't think so, Moycullen will take them again in the final.

S/K have been the most prolific over the two age groups with at least one double followed by M/M and Corofin, Moycullen won just two minor in the last ten years but I think they almost half of their current senior team stems from these two minor years. As stated Claregalway and Oranmore picked some over that period also.

In claregalways case a lot of there underage success was achieved using players from turloughmore carnmore and even castlegar once they reached 19/20 they concentrate on hurling and don't play football anymore

Have we ever seem dominance at under age to the degree of Oranmore Maree the past 2 years? They have had an outrageous 2024 and 2025 in both codes. I understand they have bog numbers but it more than that, my hat goes off to the coaches at grass roots level pushing this success. I don't follow them closely, are most players dual players? I'm not from their but have seen the plans and the work that has started in Renville, they will be the envy of the county. First fully floodlit 4G pitch in Galway. It's not just numbers, serious work being put in by the likes of Derek Cullinane, Tim Rabbitte, Sean Og de Paor, Paul Pender, Gerry Fahy and many others at the football, not familiar with the hurling side. Will be interesting to see in the next 5 years if they can kick on at adult level.

The camogie team from Oranmore have been in loads of Senior Finals recently but just survived relegation this year. In Ladies Foorball they won U16A Championship and are in the Minor A Championship Final. Their 4G pitch it pretty much finished. The big population and experienced coaches are a huge factor. ref (Galway) - Posts: 265 - 19/10/2025 22:42:09 2640703 Link 0 |

A combination of some great work being done at underage and the massive numbers and resources they have. They're naturally a dual club too, which means neither code gets obviously favoured or neglected compared to the other. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2643 - 19/10/2025 23:13:17 2640712 Link 0 |
