I can't see Dessie going in for a another season of being a window decoration, he was there for a number of years without any meaningful role.

PJ in place until 2028! I wouldn't have seen that length of an extension coming. Good luck to him. Now, it is imperative that he shakes up some of the backroom team or he could be left spinning his and our players' wheels for another 3 years! An absolute top tier Forwards / Attacking coach is badly needed in the camp. Nothing should be left as unquestionable in our setup. togoutlads (Galway) - Posts: 1094 - 02/09/2025 09:00:03 2634563 Link 0 |
Bellew on GBFM. Says we only lost by a point. Didn't mention that Donegal beat them by 20, and lost the final by 10. Pope_Benedict (Galway) - Posts: 4386 - 02/09/2025 09:20:05 2634566 Link 0 |
The length of extension is surprising alright, thought it was interesting that the announcement post made a point about mentioning the back room team would be finalized in due course. Surely a shakeup is on the way otherwise they'd say his current back room team was continuing on etc I don't know if an attacking coach is needed as much as a change in overall tactical approach to the new rules. Look how Kerry played in the final, clear intent to move the ball quickly and get it fast to the key danger men. All year we laboured around the middle third holding up ball and trying to control possession. Most of our best spells in matches came when we were behind and threw caution to the wind attacking direct with pace. LárBáire (Galway) - Posts: 67 - 02/09/2025 10:32:27 2634571 Link 0 |
The thing about 'attacking direct with pace' is that you can only bring the pace you've got, and Galway's best selection of recent times isn't particularly pacey imo.

Dress it up anyway you like. We will win no AI with Joyce at the helm. handpassking (Galway) - Posts: 440 - 02/09/2025 12:51:33 2634601 Link 2 |
Pace is not all about running . it's more about speed of thought and quickness of pass and kick. imo

Had to get a 3 year ext or none IMO. Regardless of mgmt it is hard to see where the quality we are lacking is going to be found. It is remarkable how flat county players have been so far in the club games. Perhaps now that it is knockout we will see more passion from them. Keep going back to the maxim of the great Pat Spillane, "The team that gets the better of things around the middle almost always win the game"!. This rings true with both old and new rules. We have an OK goalie, decent enough backs, very good forwards, but a very poor midfield, even allowing for some outstanding moments from Darcy. If as reported, JD has stepped away, then a top notch coach will have to be found somewhere.

Pace on the ball rather than pace over the ground. Moving the ball by the foot will always be much faster, no matter how quick the players can run. There's a lot more opportunity to move the ball quickly, especially as there are more turnovers under the new rules and more space for forwards to kick ball into. Attacking at pace doesn't necessarily mean the speed of the individual, rather the combination of the player and attacking mindset. No player can travel faster than the ball. Tierney, Thompson, Walsh, O Flaherty, Comer, Maher, Molloy, Mc Grath. Plenty of pace there. Slow cautious build up is our problem. We scored 2-3 in 4 minutes v Meath. Sideline is the problem.
