Team named for Derry game, same starting 15 as was named for Dublin. Heaney and Costello added to the subs in place of Culhane and O Conghaile. LárBáire (Galway) - Posts: 53 - 30/05/2025 06:27:37 2613549 Link 1 |
The boundary is technically the rahoon road. Hard to know exactly where both end in the inner city due to FGEO not pulling any players - but claddagh & woodquay should be FG and then shantalla is St Michaels, Taylors hill is salthill. They pull from each other though as there are rahoon people playing for salthill and clybaun people playing with Michael's. Controversy a while ago about salthill building new pitch other side of rahoon road in Michael's catchment. City clubs indeed have relaxed rules on catchment area & transfers. Still not sure if that applies to the club boundaries outside the city too - also difficult to know where Michael's end and moycullen starts, same with Barna vs Knocknacarra. systematic (Galway) - Posts: 182 - 30/05/2025 07:36:43 2613552 Link 1 |

I understand the boundary for Barna and Knocknacarra is the Cappagh Road.

A very decent team picked though Daly is the best at 6 imo and we're getting opened there far too much. togoutlads (Galway) - Posts: 1056 - 30/05/2025 10:25:07 2613569 Link 0 |
Not overly enthusiastic with team named with no changes to starting 15 unless PJ tries to pull a surprise or 2 before throw in. I do think a change or 2 is merited. Only changes are Tomo who got 5mins and no touches against Dubs & O Conghaile who after kicking an insurance score against Mayo down stretch off panel. I would like to have seen Cooke in for Darcy & Daly in for Mulkerrins with Kelly at 3 & Daly at 6. Damo`s intercounty looks over im afraid. I look at bench and i dont see players who can impact it on the scoreboard. Heaney/Sweeney not scoring forward and Costelloe has not played any senior mins so again surprised of omission of Tomo & O Conghaile. Think it will be a battle and if we could start well that would be great. Will Maher tag Glass who picks up McGuigan not confident Mulkerrins is stong enough so possibly silke? Small changes might be okay , but I disagree that this is the time to make too many radical changes or think about giving lads a "rest" . This is a crucial game . If we lose to Derry and Armagh beat or draw with Dublin , we are out of the championship on Sunday evening regardless of what happens in Round 3

Yeah no need to throw baby out of bath water. I'd expect a change or two. Possibly oflaherty or Cooke start We do seem to try tierney at 14 and pump balls in previous Derry games. Tohill named at 14 for Derry and Murray their best forward back named on bench. If we go for it we can get goals against this Derry defence and pressure and inexperienced goalie. We need to be ruthless and if opportunity to put foot in throat we must go for it jm25 (Galway) - Posts: 1552 - 30/05/2025 11:18:46 2613585 Link 0 |
Id have started Fitz at full back, Silke centre back with Kelly going to left half. Id be happy to see Daly there also but still a very strong 6 backline with Mulkerrins, Flaherty, Daly and Molly all to come in as needed. Conroy has a good record against Derry and Id expect him and McDaid to switch in and out. O Laoi is injured as possibly Tomo as well as far as I heard. Darcy was marked out of it against Dublin but very hard to leave him out, huge man, strong, fast, well able to win ball, create and score. I think Shane is better off in the inside line, we have enough lads out side to get the ball into him and Finnerty, they could cause chaos with Tierney and Thompson floating in and out, keep the best scorers close to the scoring zone. No standby players named so who know we might see Comer yet, as someone else pointed out, we could be out if we lose so if he is fit for 20 min then no point holding him back.

Hard to know what your gripe is with a dual club who are senior and intermediate in the 2 codes. Comer and kilcommins are on the Galway football panel, kilcommins was starting on an all Ireland winning minor hurling team too. That would probably be seen as a great achievement in hurling clubs, not to mind a dual club. I can't recall Carnmore offering anything to Galway hurling since John Paul O'Connell came on as a sub in the 99 and 2000 minor finals. They were circling the drain of senior hurling for too long and offering nothing. jam83 (Galway) - Posts: 193 - 30/05/2025 14:39:43 2613629 Link 0 |
Sorry but Carnmore hurlers Conor Flaherty and Enda Collins both won All Ireland minor medals and Conor Flaherty won Leinster under 20 hurling medal.Plenty of Carnmore lads playing at high level as there are Annaghdown lads.

I'm happy to be corrected on that. I just didn't see any justification for that other poster sneering at Annaghdown when Carnmore at senior level were yearly no hopers.

No need for sure.Actually since secondary school opened clubs are getting on better in the area so that's a good thing.

You know as well as the other poster that there is no tradition of hurling in Annaghdown whereas Claregalway was traditionally a hurling parish. It's great that Annaghdown are improving. Is it the role of clubs to provide a sporting outlet for the young people of their community? Or provide for county teams? The former is important and the latter is irrelevant. crankyincorofin (Galway) - Posts: 111 - 31/05/2025 11:00:57 2613716 Link 0 |
I don't agree with a poster sneering at Annaghdown but also don't agree with you saying Carnmore offered nothing to Galway hurling or calling them at senior level no hopers. They have offered a plenty to hurling in Galway and more importantly offered plenty of opportunity to many's the young hurler to play the game

I had this wrong, just seen Offaly finished second in their tailteann group, despite having better PD from games vs Wicklow and Laois. Seems all three group games are taken into consideration for PD.
