Sylane is in the Corofin parish so you could easily pop down. I may stand corrected but Gary Sice is from the Sylane side of Corofin. Gizzy McGrath and Gary both played underage hurling for Galway! Conor Cunningham was togging out for Sylane the past few years. Miltown is a tiny parish, they don't have the numbers. MM and Annaghdown both actively promote hurling and play at a decent level. The only place where it could be promoted better is Tuam but there is still a club there. Ballygar are strong, Ahs/Foh is the brother club of Caltra. Any club with decent size numbers in North Galway play hurling. I don't mind these South Galway clubs not promoting football especially the smaller ones but I take issue with the clubs who had football and were winning and very competitive at high levels at underage and threw football out of the club. Clarinbridge and Craughwell for example. Athenry wouldn't let these players in then Incase the football got too strong. Name one football club which threats a sport which is part of GAA with such disrespect.

So that is the excuse for winning. Why do the seniors only have five so? The hurlers could play cannon fodder like Leitrim, Sligo and London too to feel better about themselves in Connacht. "Ye", you're from Galway yourself. TanCanRan (Galway) - Posts: 237 - 10/12/2024 23:27:23 2583062 Link 0 |
And there are only 3/4 realistic all Ireland contenders in football .. Kerry Dublin Armagh / Tyrone..what's your point?

Moycullen are senior football and senior hurling, a rural club in the Gaeltacht apparently Sportsfanatic90 (Westmeath) - Posts: 226 - 11/12/2024 09:21:06 2583072 Link 0 |
Realistic contenders at one point in time ! (Football has 7/8 at the moment but that is rare). Gaelic football is a much more competitive field. I think Belclare's point is that only 6/7 teams have been competitive in hurling at a decent level in its history that Galway should be picking up these all Irelands especially since all it took was to win two games most years to be All Ireland Champion. However this is not the case for our Senior Hurlers which leaves a lot of questions mark about are we actually a quality hurling county.

Have a look at the all Irelands at minor, U21 and club. That should tell you.

This time last year few would name Armagh as realistic All-Ireland contender yet they went on to win and with them winning it many more will see themselves as realistic winners and BTW you left out Galway, Donegal.

Galway footballers had two chances now and couldn't do it. Mayo stuff.

That is an awful stat, we've only converted 1 in 6 underage hurling titles into senior hurling success. The football ratio is much better with a 1 in 2.5 ratio. I think we've won a football minor and football U20 title since we've won an underage hurling title.

We entered Leinster in 2017 at u21/20 level and have not won an all Ireland since!!! To add to that we had the 2015, 2017,2018, 2019 and 2020 minor winning teams (who got to a soft all Ireland semi) but yet when this advantage was taken away from us we failed to win. The minors entered Leinster in 2023 and haven't done the business either. I'd have a * beside all them All Irelands TanCanRan. Sorry to burst your bubble but Galway hurling needs a massive reality check. Green&Gold2013 (Galway) - Posts: 20 - 11/12/2024 18:07:06 2583165 Link 1 |

Mayo stuff is 11 finals defeats since their last win. And if they have a good league the media including Ah Ref will talk them up as contenders again.

Bit of stretch with Cork. All Ireland Quarter final is the max of their abilities at the moment.

You can asterisk anything you want. The All-Irelands are there. They're the currency and no amount of mental gymnastics will change that. Across all levels, hurling has been more successful than football. Same for Camogie over ladies football.

And the Galway hurlers have an All-Ireland senior since the footballers. What exactly is the point in picking an arbitrary win?

When it boils down to it, they're not contenders. They don't have the stuff of champions

Would you have said that of Armagh this time last year... Another clueless hurling poster Belclare7 (Galway) - Posts: 143 - 11/12/2024 21:14:31 2583200 Link 1 |
Your posts over the last few days are prove that hurling at county level in Galway is in serious decline and a stranglehold on our county board...
