Replying To Pope_Benedict:  "Tipp wasn't a 1 pointer. They played us off Croke Park, and won by 9."
I remember that defeat but I thought there was another 1 point defeat thrown in there also but it may not have been Tipp. Not going too well at halftime for Galway again losing at the moment by another 1 point!

I think I remember it now - it was Donegal!

Four point winners and job done in the end but made hard work of that game as took 66 minutes to put a average Westmeath team away. Will need the injured players back for Armagh next and very important that they stay top after that game avoiding a prem Quarter final.

Donegal in 2009, but not everyone would suggest we were the better team there, on paper or anywhere else. Donegal were winning the lot by 2012. Galway were losing to Sligo in 2012, for the third time in just 6 seasons.

That will be a hard task without key men, armagh are on fire here

Armagh will be brimming with confidence after that win today while Galway have probably more questions than answers about them.

Armagh looking very strong but against a Derry team in freefall. Without Comer and Finnerty we will do well to beat Armagh. We are guaranteed 2nd but a win would be a huge result. We wont be as open at the back as Derry. Armagh will go into the game as favourites which will suit us.

To be fair I think it's fairly well accepted that the footballers were in the doldrums until about 2018 after that we've been beaten by good teams or mayo....

Stop being sour Tommy go watch a few club hurling games this weekend or else support the footballers now.

Heard PJs post match comments on the radio on the way home, he hinted that 2 of the 3 out injured might be available to get on the panel in 2 weeks time but didn't seem brimming with confidence.

Have to win to avoid an extra game. Great win for Armagh today who are coming good when it matters. Has to be said though that Derry were way overrated and have now conceded 9 goals in last 3 games. GBFM seems to suggest that Finnerty is furthest away from being ready to return. Hopefully Comer recovers , GBFM also reckon the game will be in Navan.

Jesus Christ how are the injuries so regular but also so severe. Same 3 main players were missing for practically the whole league and now they're out for weeks and weeks again, when yet again we're facing Armagh. All 3 made their own way off the pitch against Derry yet a month's rest isn't even enough it seems, or it'll be very tight to get even 2 of them. It's unbelievable.

An incredibly boring game to watch. Tierney and McGrath probably our two best on the day. Shane took the goal nicely. Baffling to watch the first half when we had the breeze that we conceded a lot of the kickouts.

Very lucky 2 win today prob found out a few things
Gleason did very well
Full back line very good
Half. Back line way 2 slow needs changes there
Midfield did ok
Half forward line same just ok Westmeath half back line very good think they might got 4,scores and were serious threat all day full forward line Shane Walsh that was it in fairness to both Mcdaid and Hernon they are not forward last year v Westmeath Hernon was full back Galway need start playing forwards in forwards or it be soon over Mcdaid is either wing back or midfielder Hernon defender or sub ,, Sean Kelly when he back is a defender or sub not a wing forward I think most posters on here would have agree on thst ,,,

"And afterwards their manager admitted it would take a miracle to have Kelly or Comer back for the Armagh showdown, although he clarified that Finnerty "might for okay" for that game."

Above quote taken from the independent. Conflicting information about Robbie from GBFM and the Indo.

I agree on the boring part. The first 15/20 mins of that second half, if I was watching that on TV I would switched over. Still though lots of positives.
Gleeson, thought it was one of his best games for Galway, flawless under the high ball and kick outs were very good.
McGrath, brilliant again.
Fitzgerald, did well under high ball but a few dodgy moments in possession
Glynn, getting better every day this summer
McHugh, one of our leaders, carried a lot of ball but not much created today.
Daly, seems to have lost form. No impact going forward
Silke, I thought he was our best player, completely nullified O'Toole, Westmeaths playmaker
Conroy, again, on a lot of ball and no real end product. Better when it opened up at the end.
Maher, down cul de sacs a few times. OK
Darcy, caught for pace twice by Wallace for 2 scores in first half.
Tierney, of all the injured players that came back, he has had the most impact. Good again today and a great kick out option. Ran himself into the ground.
Heaney, couple of bad decisions on the ball but I thought the balance of the forward unit was off for long periods.
Hernon, was playing wing forward. Rusty but good score and good run out.
Walsh, heavily marked but another good game. Retained possession well.
McDaid, another one who is improving. Will benefit from that today.
Mgt. I'd give them credit, right subs at the right time again. Sweeney, O'Flaherty, Molloy all made a difference

Happy to get over a tricky tie. Showed good character. Good to get game time into McDaid and Hernon and to get Sweeney and Culhane back out on the pitch. We are a bit off the standard but fingers crossed we get the three lads back for after the group stages. Surprised O Curraoin is not seeing more action. We have a big panel this year so we can cope with an extra game if needs be

I'd have taken a 4 point win before throw in.
I know we were missing our two most consistent forwards but we have to stop replacing them with defenders/midfielders.
We had only two guys who are natural forwards playing today - Walsh & Tierney.
And even at that, Tierney imo is probably more of a midfielder than a forward at this level.
It's pointless bringing Hernon in to play in forwards.
D'arcy is a midfielder. McDaid is a half back or midfielder. Heaney is a natural half back who has been converted to a wing forward (and a good one at that). Same with Sweeney when he plays - he is a wing back but they play him as a forward. They've done it with Molloy several times also.

D'Arcy is playing Cooke's role from last year, we need a big athlete in half forward line. To be fair we've seen him play a good few games for the strane at 11 or 14. Guess he plays 8 for ballyboden but I guess watching them is more exciting than Galway championship.

Whatever about D'Arcy, you are totally wrong about Heaney just go to a killannin match some time this autumn he always plays 11. Heaney is a natural forward just some people saw him playing in backs under KW and made assumptions.

SK need Sweeney in half back line and have the opposite problem that Galway have - too many forwards and not enough backs. He scores about the same amount that he does for Galway. Don't think it's unreasonable to have him in forwards really.

Good win but will be tough to beat Armagh with no Comer, Kelly and Finnerty a big doubt still.

Molloy is a good player blighted by injury too. It was great to see him in yesterday and kicking a point. He looked sharp too.
