Based on the squad announcements during the league I'd expect it to go up on their Twitter sometime this evening.

If Derry had lost for the league McKaigue, McKinless, Glass, Rodgers, and McGuighan akin to us losing Silke, Kelly,McDaid, S Walsh and Damien Comer (Tierney and Conroy also out for significant games) they would have been no where near a league final and would have been in pretty much the same boat as us trying to avoid relegation. We lost key lads last year at crucial stages and don't have the depth yet to replace them. Neither do most counties. It's a cop out to hide behind injuries when the current management team have had five years to develop a squad and playing style to adapt.

It's not a cop out, it's reality, you take lads of the quality of the lads we are missing out then the team will clearly suffer. Who could they(or any manager) have developed playing club football in Galway in the past five years to replace at the same level a Shane Walsh or Comer or Kelly or McDaid? You could pick maybe one or two who perhaps could be in there outside of who is already on the panel but that's it. Development of that kind of top level talent rests with the system in place from under age to club to county. The next guys in the queue who looked like they might be able to step up to that level are Finnerty(also riddled with injury especially last year),Tierney(injured), Pat Kelly (also injured) Tomo(injured) Mike Daly(injured) and there are more injured too. Cooke gone back working abroad and Hernon on Erasmus . We can't suffer that level of attrition and think we will be competing at the very top table. Staying up in Division 1 was a good achievement in the circumstances and we have found a few new players. They also have put in place a definite style of play/system although personally I'm not a fan as. Fully agree. If we had our best players available playing our best football we could beat anyone on our day. It's a catastrophe we have so many missing and people need to cut management a bit of slack as no team could cope with the amount of injuries Galway have.

It's not one or the other. Yes, we would be a better team with all of our best players fit and healthy. There's no doubt about that. Good enough to compete with the very best? We don't know, but I'd love to find out. At the same time, there are legitimate questions to be asked about certain elements of our play and even mindset in some of our games this year. Kickouts are still a big problem and have been for a long time, even when we have most of our team available. There are poorer teams than us with much more effective kickout strategies. Our build-up play can be extremely slow and lateral. It seems almost robotic at times and can be very easily defended. The lack of physicality in our tackling has been obvious in a number of games. Regardless of personnel, this is something which needs to he addressed. We stand off the man in possession a lot, even within our own 45, which gives them the time and space to work simple scores. God this continued sniping at Connor Gleeson is really tiresome. It is time for this prejudice to stop. We have already shown that with a full team we are a match for the best. When we return to full strength we will do so again. The team and management should be fully supported as all good Galway followers have always done.

I haven't mentioned Conor Gleeson's name once. I have also said in a previous post that our kickout issues are a collective responsibility. There's far more to it than just the goalkeeper. You're the one who's personalising it. Gleeson is our goalkeeper and I'll support any player who pulls on the Galway shirt. Conor Gleason is one of the poorest goalkeepers playing senior football in Ireland today bar none. Is it possible to be any clearer in that assessment. No matter how much you state it differently that won't change even with a Galway win this weekend. Please stop defending the indefensible.
