Mannion had a few chances in the past but wasn't able to push on. Was invited into the development panel at the end of last year, following a good campaign with his club, but declined. Don't really blame him, he's not that young any more. Not sure if Kelly is still with the U20 panel; needs to push himself harder.

I'm not sure why you're putting Maher in the same bracket as D'Arcy. Maher has played of football for Galway since getting his run at the start of last year. He has impressed in a lot of games. He's a physical player who gives us much-needed grit around the middle. He works very hard, doesn't shirk tackles and is well able to win his own ball. He has plenty football in him too. I think he's a very important part of our team. D'Arcy has played very little yet, since making his way back into the team this year. We've yet to see what he can offer. No definitely wouldn't rule them out either. They should be given more game time in the remaining league.

Had hoped we would see more from O'Curraoin and O'Conghaile yesterday as we badly need a new forward or two to put their hands up for selection but both were fairly anonymous. It didn't help that Galway were attacking so slowly that Tyrone could get everyone back and set up in defence. There was very little space up there for them. D'Arcy has played for Galway in the past at midfield and he seemed to be a promising player at underage but he has not progressed in the way he should have so I don't think he deserves to be on the current team ahead of other players and he is certainly not a forward. Was surprised Ger Davoren was not brought on instead of him as he is good at winning aerial possession given Gleeson was mainly kicking it out long yesterday.

Poor Gleeson is so slow with his kickouts but are players moving for him to get the ball out to. From the few behind goal shots there wasnt much of an outlet. We have a chance as we dont fear Derry but they are flying and will be a hard team to beat. I liked O Flaherty when he came in, he has to have a role. If PJ is to go this year by bringing in the two young lads up front and bringing Egan and McCabe into the squad he is building us for the future. I'm not sure what our strongest team if all are fit but you would be thinking if we moved Kelly up the pitch (if we can afford to) he would be a serious threat. You would want to see lads taking on their men instead of turning back and the few times we directly attacked like for the Sweeney goal we looked more like the Galway of old. I dont believe and a I accept its the modern game, that this lateral and back passing suits us. It probably depends who we are playing, when we get to Dublin and Kerry they will let us play and we will see where we really are. Was in Tyrone yesterday and the first half was a hard watch . Tyrone were very poor and we should have beaten them by 5 or 6 points .We took them apart when we ran at them but then with 10 minutes to go tried to play keep ball instead of moving quickly and its not our forte. Impressed with Daniel Flaherty yesterday. To be honest I was one questioning his position on the panel after the FBD and Mayo games and am delighted to be proved wrong. Hearing Shane's injury was an 8 to 10 week break. Would like to see Paddy Egan tried for at least 30 minutes against Derry . Big leap up for him but nothing to lose given our injury problems and fortune sometimes favours the brave. It's a bit of both. He's generally not prepared, can't understand why every time the ball goes out the field he can't put a ball and tee to one side(sometimes he does but not always) and then sprint out quicker, he ambles out. If your keeper can have the ball and tee ready and sprint out you'd probably get about 50% away under no pressure. But our set up is also poor, our backs bunch and then slowly run back into space and occupy it. It's so poor to look at and achieves nothing, the key is to open space and let someone else run into it, not to occupy it stationary. Our half forwards just turn their back on the play and run forward, you'd never see them do a 180 and make a bee line into space out the wing and it put in front of them. You'll find it very hard to win an AI if you're giving up loads of our kick outs and pressing poorly. I really believe we would have won 2022 if our restarts weren't so poor, in the first half we lost a fair few of ours and none of Kerry's and it kept them in the game, reverse that stat and we'd have been out of sight. It definitely showed that when the lads ran at their opponents they beat them and scored.Its not something you can do for 70 mins but should be done more.Management don't seem to want to use the goalkeeper as an extra player really like most top teams are, so Conor Gleeson will be in goals.Its hard to watch young lads that can run for Ireland and won an under 20 All Ireland playing attacking football playing the ball back and forth like basketball but c'est la vie.They are doing what they have told to do.

I thought the difference between the 2 keepers was stark. When Galway dropped in numbers like Tyrone were doing, Morgan was able to join the line and even got through for a point and set up one with a clever pass in the second half. I watched the Kerry Mayo highlights and Kerry work the ball to Clifford but Shane Ryan has joined the attack meaning 14 man Mayo can't really double up on Clifford. I really can't fathom at this stage why we haven't even explored the option.

Because Shane Ryan and Morgan are better footballers than Gleeson. Gleeson would only be in the way. Dublin won an All Ireland and Cluxton didn't cross 45, and is also the best goalkeeper of all time. Leave Gleeson where he is.

You'd need an outfield player in goals to make that work. I think Ryan plays outfield for his club. Same with the Armagh goalie. If Gleeson was told to come up the field he'd be targeted big time for a turnover and it wouldn't be his fault. He's a goalkeeper only. Cluxton is too. Imagine what we'd be like with a Cluxton. We'd be running into space all game, like the second half last Sunday. It'd be a game changer for us.

There is rule change coming to football, to make it more agreeable on the eye. New president Jarlath Burns has it on his agenda. An obvious and handy start to these changes would be to keep goalies in the goals, and possibly limit open play passes to the keeper as well.
