You weren't greeted by anyone who said they weren't good enough anyway.

Totally agree. Kelly was a huge loss and without him Moycullen wouldn't have won for the last 2 years. He is the main man on this team.

Good to see Liam Silke back in good form. smallfrank (Galway) - Posts: 443 - 05/11/2023 22:40:37 2511654 Link 1 |
Sad to hear of Seamus Leydon's (Dunmore) passing. A fabulous footballer and a gentleman. Really (Galway) - Posts: 622 - 05/11/2023 23:17:55 2511659 Link 3 |
Not sure about that but for sure the intermediate championship will be extremely competitive and hard won going forward with 4 senior sides having gone down in the past 2 years.

Moycullen didn't win it the last 2 years

Fantastic win for our lads. If you told us during the league we would not have Ian Burke or Jason Leonard for the Championship, and no Dylan Canney for the knock out games, I doubt too many would have given us a chance. Appreciate that Sean Kelly was a major loss, but it's rare for any club team to have their best 15 fully fit on any given day. crankyincorofin (Galway) - Posts: 98 - 06/11/2023 10:07:27 2511685 Link 0 |
2 of the previous 3. The point still stands. He's obviously a vital player for Maigh Cuilinn. Corofin were missing a number of key players themselves from previous title runs, like Daithí and Ian Burke and Jason Leonard. They played some brilliant stuff yesterday and their tackling high up the pitch was excellent. It stifled Maigh Cuilinn's powerful running game. I do think they need to sort out a right-footed free-taker. Leonard would have been taking those if available. They had Sice kicking one yesterday in the second half from out on the left sideline. Extremely difficult to score for a left-footer. It dropped short and Maigh Cuilinn actually got their goal from it eventually. Fair play to both sides. They went at it hammer and tongs. I don't think they have, they've some super underage players coming with young O'Malley and Tracey. They'll be very close when you consider Mannion, Prendergast and Daly are still very good players and all young too. They had a few players also involved with Sylane who got to the Intermediate Hurling semi final. They are developing nicely.

For sure. Very good quality match yesterday I thought, and even though Corofin were well superior in the second half, Moycullen battled gamely away and made the finish interesting with that late goal.

The next job for Johnson is the Galway senior job, when PJ calls time on it, the only issue we may have is the Mayo one could be available first. He appears to be a very able individual.

Congrats to Corofin and hard luck to Moycullen. Two evenly matched teams playing football the way it should be played. Sean Kelly was a big loss for Moycullen no doubt but then one could say the likes of Ian Burke, Jason Leonard, Daithí Burke and Ronan Steede were big losses for Corofin. I don't think they are as good as they were a number of years ago when they were winning the 3 AI's in a row but will still be very tough for anyone to beat. By the way has Ronan Steede retired, is he injured or just not available for selection? tommy k (Galway) - Posts: 3470 - 06/11/2023 10:51:26 2511699 Link 0 |
100% agree. Michaels are a middle of the pack senior team. Unlucky to have found themselves in relegation but it just shows you what can happen when in a relegation battle. I seen Spiddal and Lettermore play earlier in the year and was convinced both were destined for the drop. But credit to Lettermore. Relegation football is different. Played in October/Nov in club pitches. That suits certain teams a lot more. Look at Carraroe surviving at senior for years and years despite often struggling in the group stages. If Michaels are good enough they will bounce back. It will test their character now. Lot of young talent in that squad. They need to keep them boys and try keep Brannigan in the country next summer. St Michaels at full strength are simply too good for intermediate level. Intermediate will be damn competitive as always next year. Kilconly wont like seeing Michaels come down. Ronan came on in the semi final but was an unused sub yesterday.

Thanks - do you know if Daithí Burke is making himself available for the Connacht club championship?

Or senior .. No doubt his management credentials are far more impressive than the current man at the helm!

Finin o laoi big loss for spiddal, leitirmore have good players but something was wrong in the camp earlier in the year, change of management seemed to spur them on. St Michael's should bounce back next year, intermediate is getting more difficult to win though, u can bounce back like monivae or keep doing same mistakes as carraroe did and keep getting same results, shocking the way that club has gone. 2 successive relagations under same management. Maybe they should have gone the lettermore route and got someone in wen things were in feeefall. Well done corofin, monivae and menllough.

This is absolutely correct. The Michael's appeal was embarrassing from start to finish, and the other clubs who got involved with statements, especially Tuam who had no need to say anything, should be ashamed of themselves.
