Exactly. Intermediate always appears to be wide open. So for a team who was unlucky to get relegated from senior to make an intermediate final the following year is hardly surprising. With or without McDaid I think Kilconly will go up to senior, but it should be a close enough game. GalwaysFinest (Galway) - Posts: 191 - 26/10/2023 10:56:31 2510381 Link 2 |
I would have to disagree with you on the intermediate one. Monivea are a decent team, they will give Kilconly bags of it. 2 teams fully deserve a the chance to get back to senior. Moycullen in the senior final then for me, Corofin just missing too many of their scoring forwards and can be shaky at the back at times, especially under high ball. How were they unlucky to be relegated ?

6 pts to separate Kilconly and Monivea. McDaid to big a loss. northbouind (Galway) - Posts: 305 - 27/10/2023 14:39:32 2510643 Link 1 |
A person would have to feel for McDaid with all the problems he has had with injury. but more so in having to miss out on Co Final with his club which I presume means most of all as with all players and their club friends. backtooldwall (Galway) - Posts: 140 - 27/10/2023 19:31:39 2510691 Link 1 |
Don't think McDaid was fully right all this year. Seemed to be carrying a knock into the league. Played the first couple games with strapping on his leg but they had to give him an extended rest then. Don't think he ever got back to near 100%. When he was fully fit and firing the year before he made a huge difference to Galway. Hopefully he can get his body right now that he'll be out for a few months with the fracture. How strong are Menlough who won the Junior championship and goes on to play the Roscommon champions St Michael's in a couple of weeks. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 3926 - 29/10/2023 11:25:16 2510820 Link 0 |
They're a solid physical team. No individual stars. No county players. galwayman2 (Galway) - Posts: 1291 - 29/10/2023 18:17:26 2510863 Link 1 |
From memory they were actually senior about 10 years ago but they'd usually be an intermediate club rather than a senior or junior club but usually in the bottom half of intermediate rather than the top half. Nobody near the Galway panel.

They're playing Tuam Stars in the junior final this Sunday in the curtain raiser for the county senior final.. I hope they don't lose with all the background checks your doing on them! Galwaymaster9 (Galway) - Posts: 397 - 30/10/2023 10:56:28 2510911 Link 1 |
Decent side. Themselves and headford were far superior to anything else in Galway junior 1 this year. Should be more competitive junior next year with carraroe and killererin down. And menlough themselves not guaranteed to go up with a tricky assignment v tuam B.

Great match in store next Sunday: Corofin V Maighcuilin. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2585 - 30/10/2023 17:10:32 2510954 Link 0 |
Doesn't look like there will be any threat from Ballina anyway for Moycullen/Corofin. 0-06 to 0-04 in a county final with three scores from play between both teams. Galway winner will destroy them in the provincial semi final. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 806 - 30/10/2023 17:12:07 2510955 Link 0 |
Doesn't matter if they lose or not. They will represent Galway in the Connacht club regardless.. They are Galway Primary junior champions. The game at the weekend is a promotion play off against the other competition which is for clubs 2nd teams. That's designed to give 2nd teams a chance to play above junior level if they are good enough (as Corofins 2nd team are). galwayman2 (Galway) - Posts: 1291 - 30/10/2023 18:46:56 2510968 Link 1 |
Be very surprised if that isn't a tight game. Last years one sided game was one of the few comfortable wins for Galway champs v Mayo champs in Connacht senior club. I wouldn't be reading anything into the scoreline of the Mayo final. It's just the type of game it was - though simply horrendous to watch. I'd fancy the Galway champs to win it but not comfortably. galwayman2 (Galway) - Posts: 1291 - 30/10/2023 18:51:28 2510969 Link 1 |
I remember a Galway Mayo Connacht minor final from way back that ended 0-6 to 1-1 iirc, and the winning side went on to win the all-ireland, scoring plenty at both semi and final. Might have been '85 or '86, when Mayo and Galway won it back to back.

Checks might still be valid as menlough represent Galway either way.

That there is no thread about Mayo football on here on HS is astounding. Well…perhaps…not really! But anyway, I've no better to do than come to the neighbors and ask the question, was there either a foot of snow or a foot of water on that pitch for the Mayo final? Because 3 points from play over 60 minutes (if it's 70 I'll be lynched again by the Galway hurling mob for not knowing that either) sure you wouldn't even get quality like that from a Jim McGuinness managed team. Jim must be fair proud of Ballina! And Aiden loses yet another final. Jaysus, even ye Galway lads would probably like to see the poor devil win one final at least! foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2118 - 31/10/2023 01:47:16 2511001 Link 0 |
Sport doesn't always work like that. We've regularly seen teams struggle through games and then prove to be very difficult when underdogs in subsequent games. Maigh Cuilinn or Corofin would be favourites for sure, but I wouldn't be judging everything based on one game for Ballina. Last year Maigh Cuilinn were brilliant against Westport putting up a huge score, and the next day out they only scored 1 point in the 2nd half against Strokestown and got taken to extra-time.
