As a neutral, I see a lot better value in Corofin now at 5/2!
Hoping for a Corofin/Moycullen final, it will really draw a crowd! It will be a close affair.

Does any one know the structure of the groups as in who goes through to QFs and relegation? Top 2 in each group in QF joined by 2 best 3rds? My understanding is 2 worse bottoms straight into round robin relegation than best 6th plays off against best 5 th and other 2 5ths play each other & losers join the relegation round robin. Not entirely sure as this year there is one group of 5. In inter is it 2 down aswell?

I just don't think Corofin match up well against Moycullen at all. Way too much pace on the Moycullen side.

That's kind of an unknown since they have not met since Moycullen came to the fore three or four years ago (as Mountbellew always got in between them) . Most people are looking forward to the clash, whether its the final or earlier.
I agree that one of the 2 will probably win FF. The only chance that that wont happen, in my opinion, is that if they meet earlier than final and the winner gets caught out in the final. And even at that there are only 3 teams with even an outside chance of causing this upset ( Salthill, Mountbellew, Claregalway).

Close enough . Just one clarification re the QF
Top 2 in each group into QF...6 teams
Best place third out of the 2 x 6 team groups into QF ...6+1 = 7
Final place in QF to be decided by play off between the worst 3rd place of the 2 x 6 team groups and third place in the 5 team group.
The reason being is that the worst place third in the 5 team group was almost certainly going to have less points than the third place in the 6 team groups.

Yes 2 going down from Intermediate too, to balance the 2 coming down from senior.
Next year senior will have 16 teams and it will be back to 1 up and 1 down then.

Ah very good thanks for clarifying. Whats the relegation structure? 2down in inter also I see. Will be much more striaght forward when its 16 teams & 4 groups of 4.

Are you discounting last years semi final, but at the same painting a similar situation as last years semi's & final.

Can somebody confirm the senior relegation structure?

Can two teams from the same group be relegated? If so, Litir Mor and An Spideal look destined for the drop for me.

For intermediate, three clubs that were senior in recent years are in the relegation battle, along with Corofins second team.

Corofin will want to keep their second team in intermediate, as it is a serious foundation for their younger players who have aspirations of playing senior.

As for the other three teams, as a neutral who likes Galway football, nobody wants to see any of these clubs go down.

For me it is K/C and Killererin, who are obviously merged at underage level.

Relegation semi-finals: 5th place Group 1 v 5th place Group 2, 4th place Group 3 v Best 6th place Group 1 or 2

Relegation Round Robin: 2 x Semi-Final losers, 5th place Group 3, Worst 6th place Group 1 or 2.

That's according to Galway Bay FM.
It's only a small point but I think that this format is slightly unfair on the last place in the 5 team Group ( Group 3).
If you finish last in a 6 team group it is a poorer reflection on performance than finishing last in a 5 team group, yet 1 of them will get an extra shot at safety over the 5th place in the 5 team group.
Qualification to QF is biased towards the 6 team group ( rightly so) but the relegation should work in reverse , in my opinion.
It's a small point and ultimately the 2 worst teams will be relegated, but I have to call out the unfairness which is actually compounded by the fact that Group3 has no really bad team. 4 x Div 1 league teams and Intermediate champs. If Spiddal Mor , Leitir Mor or Caherlistrane ( or maybe some others too) were thrown into that group to make it a 6 team group they would likely have finished 6th with the 5th place team getting an extra shot at avoiding relegation , not to mention the fact that 3rd place would have a chance of getting direct to QF.

Have we had any standout performances throughout the group stages so far this championship?
Barry Goldrick gave a solid performance on Sunday in Tuam stadium against St. Michaels I thought.
Jake Slattery is definitely a young guy to watch along the way, has potential.

As a Moycullen supporter Owen Gallagher is the best player for me so far. That said, Sean Kelly hasn't got going yet. Haven't watched enough of Corofin games either.

Jake slattery has great pace and can score from both feet, something our galway forwards can't do

I havent a clue what you mean by discounting last years semi final ? Or indeed painting a similar picture as last years semi and final?
Last years semis
Moycullen 3-9 Mountbellew 0-9
Salthill 1-12 Annaghdown 0-9

Which one was i discounting and what portion of what i said for 2023 was a similar picture to last year ( apart from the suggestion that Moycullen are a likely repeat winner.

None of what I suggested for this year has any resemblance with last year.
Corofin did not make it to semi final last year. Moycullen beat Mountbellew in the semi comfortably after Mountbellew had beaten Corofin luckily.

Comer has kicked plenty scores off both feet, as has Shane Walsh obviously. It's a great asset to have, but even the best forwards are predominantly one-footed.
Looking forward to seeing more of Slattery though.

We should just start the Dunmore 15 for Galway seeing as our goalkeeper has been such an unqualified success.

You have a point - this relegation set-up is definitely biased in favour of the 6-team groups. The bottom team from group 3 will still be strong favourites to survive the round-robin but there is always the chance that things will go badly, particularly if they run into injury trouble. Next year with 16 senior teams and presumably 4 groups of 4, there should be no such issues.

Was looking forward to the u19 semi final between Tuam and Corofin tonight with the winners meeting Claregalway in the final but I hear its off as Dunmore ( who were well bet by 5 points against Corofin) have put in an objection.
