Absolutely. Even for Galway mayo the other day it was canavan and biased Keegan.

Colm Boyle, James Horan on Newstalk. Where the hell are Pat Gilroy, Jim Gavin, Conor Counihan, Pat O'Shea..you know, fellas that have actually won something smallfrank (Galway) - Posts: 495 - 02/07/2023 22:26:05 2491597 Link 5 |
Agree with all that. Hysterical reaction from 'fans'. The fact is only two teams can win national titles each year. We were very close to beating Kerry in one final last year. Got promoted to d1. This year we lost (poorly I admit) league final and were sloppy coping with new format champo. There are issues...picking toothless forwards(Burke)..not picking Finnerty in Salthill...but new defenders have been found, we had an injury crisis and we had bad luck. This squad will bounce back and we will be contenders again. Would love to see Conroy play 14 with pacey lads around him. Get behind the hurlers now!

David Brady, he'll probably be on tomorrow to point out areas where 8 time All Ireland Winner James McCarthy needs to improve as a midfielder

Was a Galway 'mafia' for years- Jim Carney, Micheal Lyster, Enda Colleran, Cyril Farrell, Pete Finnerty. Like it or lump it, Mayo have been the team of the west 2011-20??, and that's reflected on the airwaves these days. There wasn't much solace to be salvaged from the ashes of that Mayo display today, which perhaps put paid to the notion that they've seamlessly transitioned from their 2011-2017 side into an equally good side currently. 2021 might prove to be the exception rather than the rule for this current Mayo side, in terms of their proximity to landing Sam Maguire.

Mayo, 8 us alive? Did you see today's game? We played them a week ago, and they bet us by a pint.

Could never understand the huge appeal to have Mayo lads on punditry. Grand ballers but never the kingpins let's be honest.

It's in the offing for sure, and was part of the original package.

They lost it on the scoreboard, the same way all games are lost!

Was that same foot injured before he took the last free v Armagh? Was it injured before the league final? Totally agree that management should have addressed the problem during the group stages. He should have been given something to think about by naming him on the bench for the Armagh game. Quiet naive to assume he'd come good "sooner or later". One poster here said he could be playing for Dublin next year - on his current form he would not make the Dublin squad. Whatever about the Galway squad he should not have been selected on Galway's starting 15 in the last 2 games at least as it wasn't fair to him or the other players in the squad who would have performed better in all probability.

were carney and lyster pundits? i thought they were presenters. farrell and finnerty pundits for a different code so what is your point on pundits representing galway for gaelic football? mayo have keegan, brady, higgins, boyle, moran all working on rte/off the ball

I've noticed that, add in J Maughan and Billy Joe Padden frequently interviewed as well. A Moran was on the OTB podcast before he took the Leitrim job. There's nearly a starting 15 of former Mayo players doing punditry and analysis.

De Paor and Sice are on TG4 a lot. Conroy does RTE work occasionally. Mike Meehan is on GaaGo, and also RTE and others in the past. There's at least one Mayo fan in the Newstalk crew, that talk gibberish to one another there for hours during the week, when they've no 'guests' that'll 'talk'. Maybe he's the one signing up all the Mayo lads to Newstalk?

The 1998 to 2001 generation are hardly ancient. There have been plenty older pundits on the go. From your list, one is a presenter and two are hurling pundits. The other two were on many decades ago. It's obviously up to the lads themselves, but it is odd that we've barely had any football pundits on national tv or radio over the past two decades. Especially given that a lot of the successful team retired in the late 00s. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2299 - 03/07/2023 11:39:44 2491739 Link 0 |
