Replying To TheFlaker:  "You missed the point. People are saying Sean Kelly must have been in pain so ROD must have done it. The same Kelly who tried to get a Monaghan player sent off. Did ROD do something? Probably. Did he go for the ankle? I don't know. He won't be punished. How could he? To finish, ROD gets some abuse off the ball and he did again on Sunday. Even for that incident, Kelly and the other Galway player both targeted him and the ball up the other end of the pitch. So reap what you sow to a certain degree."
That is typical.Trying to deflect from something that was a nasty cowardly act.

Do ypu know what. That is a real childish thing to say.If my kids said I am going to hurt someone just because they hurt me I would be giving out to them for being immature.

This is possibly the most one eyed take I've ever seen on an incident in a game. All Sean Kelly's fault because of something he did in Clones several months ago.
The abuse the poor chap who stood on someone gets and the fact that he was targeted.
Sure ye would all have All Ireland medals if Donal Vaughan wasn't goaded by John Small. Donal got a lot of abuse that day too the poor auld divil.
I'll while I'm at it, that time the GPS was thrown, Dean Rock deserved that, even the ball that bounced over the bar in 1996, that was caused by the lad that inflated the ball.

Will you enjoy your victory and move on.

You are missing all the points...
It's thuggery plain and simple...
From behind and purposely trying to injure an opponent..
Vaughan did it, the O Connors did it,Higgins did it even Mick Barrett tried to attack a ref...
Ye are some crowd !

Nope missing the point. It has been said online and on here that Kellys reaction proved it was nasty. I never make excuses for players or Mayo losses on here. I absolutely hate when anyone complains about ref etc etc. If he did it and there is evidence then ban him, that clear enough ?

Replying To Alwaysencourage:  "Actually Sean Kelly and the Mayo player were at each other.ROD was 3rd man.Seem to remember Sran Kelly got a straight red last year against Armagh for doing same thing.ROD had no right to go in and swipe twice at Sean Kelly's ankle. No justification at all. Then he ran away knowing that if Sean Kelly went down he was in trouble.Cowardly."
In that example v Armagh there were several players from both sides guilty of getting "involved". Sure, Comer could have got marching orders too. So, the ref. just did a small balancing act - one player from each side please.

Who was young player of the year in 1951 as a matter of interest. Did they receive the use of a sponsored horse and cart for the 1952 season

Replying To cavan.galway:  "this gave me a good giggle this morning. we have been hearing about this awful midfield for years, we absolutely dominating all kick - outs and its still the midfielders fault we lost yesterday. give your head a wobble."
Didn't say it was the midfielders fault we lost, my points made in a separate post after the game were my thinking on why we lost. Yes, we won the kickout battle against Mayo but anyone who knows football can see we've a problem winning the aerial battle around the middle in the majority of our games - even Leitrim, Sligo, Westmeath, never mind Armagh and Ros had the better of us in the air for much of those games.

children stop bickering.
best to Mayo on Sunday

Galway need a new approach to 2024
divide squad into "probables" and "possibles".
Only use "possibles" as starters before the group championship
in late May. "Probables" need to be impact subs in all competition
before this. Injury and burnout are our main problem, not the opposition.
This is the way to go.

"Will Galway beat Mayo? Not unless they have a few thugs!" The Sawdoctors changed the words this week - doesn't rhyme but makes more sense!

They may have had a cart but surely it was a donkey that was used to propel it forward in those days!

Replying To anotheralias:  "Its a difficult call. I am hoping he wont get any sanction as I am rooting for Mayo from here on ( as I always do even though I know these sentiments would not be reciprocated by most Mayo fans if we were in the QF).
Having said that it looked bad enough although the footage was a bit inconclusive.
One thing I do have to say is that I am disappointed at the Mayo GAA blog report. I normally find WJs reports good and reasonably unbiased. But the comment re the hit on Conroy after the fisted point "...Tommy Conroy, who was taken out of it crudely after he'd scored." irked me a bit. At worst that hit was marginally late but it was a genuine attempted tackle , it definitely wasnt an attempt to "take a player out" and to call that out without any comment on the stamping incident was, in my opinion, biased in the extreme."
That blog is largely biased, one dimensional and all fora including this one impartiality is a rare treat. There is a reason why generally speaking Mayo are not very well liked by many outside their own county. That is what I get from a lot of people in other counties. I understand the tension at times between us, Mayo and the Rossies (being long held rivals etc) but the amount of people I have come across from other counties over the last 25 years who dislike Mayo is an eye opener.

Regarding the O Donoghue incident , I am glad that he is not being suspended, as I want Mayo to be at their best when they play Dublin. I want Mayo to win , but if they lose I wouldn't like there to be any excuse.
On the flip side its not good to see a player get away with such a cowardly act. Apart from the stamp , he ran in with a shoulder to the back , which is as nasty and cowardly as it comes because it is one act where one can hurt an opponent with little or no chance of getting hurt oneself. These acts are becoming much less common in rugby because of the zero tolerance policy...and rugby have stamped this out while retaining its physical edge. I'm hoping that the GAA introduce some new guidelines for 2024.

Galway never got near the heights the reached last year, our best display by far V Kerry in the League. We did not seem to address the issues that arose in the Westmeath game, namely the ease with which they moved the ball from defense to attack, I thought we were playing 2019 Dubs. That said Westmeath could have easily taken Tyrone also. PJ was in an unenviable position re his forwards. Was he to drop a player who is unquestionably a special talent while both Comer and Finnerty were carrying injuries? If the latter 2 were fit PJ would have acted. It will be a very interesting club championship as we see how Silke gets on, (not expected to be fit for Corofin action until mid to late August). Will Molloy, McHugh, Mulkerrin , Comer and above all McLoughlan return to full fitness/sharpness during the season. And will Shane start putting in MOTM efforts for Crokes? Will our heroic captain be ready for 2024? Mayo, Kerry, Cork and Monaghan to progress I reckon.
