Would love to see that team line out. Any chance you'd pick Val Daly to start while your at it tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1205 - 22/06/2023 13:47:12 2488414 Link 1 |
Connaught teams by and large play disjointed football. The less touches, time spent on ball the better imo, as it demonstrates a heads up approach. Connaught teams furst instinct is to run and solo the ball. Won't see Messi doing that..

What province does the Messi play in? haven't seen his name in the Sam Maguire competition, maybe the Tailteann Cup?

You know what, he'd prob be better than half of them. It would work . Conor Gleesons kick outs were losing so much for us on Sunday - switch him out. No idea why he was selected but his kick outs are dire. Get Eoghan Kelly back. He's well rested and he's strong. Get Paul Conroy on the forward line with Cooke. Then bring our Dessie Connelly or Tomo Culhane who have a far bigger attitude to prove themselves- they'd have to be better than Shane Walsh or Mathew Tierney performance. I've seen Tomo in Sigerson and Dessie in clubs, both of them can score. The main thing is to change it up completely. Right now, Galway's game is beyond predictable - especially to Mayo. It's easy to see their tactics. That's my two cents. Gearoid1998ffowaed (Galway) - Posts: 134 - 22/06/2023 17:20:25 2488496 Link 0 |
We just need to go for them down the middle and stop pussy footing around the place . Let Cooke go at them Maher too and tell Tierney to move infield he is too far out on the wing. Johnny Heaney will pop up with a goal im sure of it and Shane Walsh will have his best game since AIF. Run, run, run at them **** away with recyling it. If its the same as and we lose there needs to be a total rethink for 2024. I want Mayo to get a bating, christ almighty deliver them a hammering. It's a good team. Yes, there are marginal calls but I think the calls must be made on merit from what they're seeing. Gleeson gets in as the high ball will be lobbed in on Aidan O'Shea and Gleeson has serious height and seems far braver now, to be fair to him, in bossing the square. He'll need to be an absolute animal in there on Sunday. The kickouts will have to improve massively. Just don't gift them any and that'll go a long way. Strong half back line. Delighted to see Maher in. Ian Burke wouldn't have been my call but I'm a lad tapping on a phone and they're the management, they must know what they've planned here. Tomo and Rob to come in I hope. Tomo as a potential bolter, imo. He'll land 2, 3 or more clutch points some day, this could be it. He's a big day man. Hoping to God that Walsh, Comer and Kelly are fit! We'll need them all on fire. This is real championship. Knock down, drag out, last man standing, old school, white heat championship. This is where leaders are forged. togoutlads (Galway) - Posts: 986 - 23/06/2023 13:01:20 2488639 Link 3 |
Great game in prospect, local rivalry and all. However I don't think we'll see the winners of Sam '23 in Salthill on Sunday, both teams seem to have a great ability to underperform and lose when the chips are down.

Very inspirational! I think Mayo's weakness is in central defence. Walsh, Comer and Heaney coming round on the loop will get plenty of scoring chances - draw out full back line and there will also be goal chances. We should score about 3-14. Mayo 1-13. Hope there are plenty of ice baths ready for players - and sure we'll be hospitable as always and give the Mayo lads a dip too.. lol

If both teams lose, it'll be really something!! Mr Guinness Book of Records will be all over it.

Whatever about the chances of both teams losing this, it's a fair bet that it'll be a game of two halves, with 18mph wind forecast, which will likely blow like 25mph in Pearse Stadium.

Why do you love Mayo so much? lol

Obviously I didn't say both would lose on Sunday but inferred that Sunday's winners will not win the big prize and whatever Sligo has to do with it maybe you can let me know?

In fairness Galway under PJ have won 2 Connacht titles back to back and were only narrowly beaten by a good Kerry side. Watched final again recently...66 mins and we are neck and neck. Few bad wides...soft Kerry free...I disagree that we perform poorly under pressure. A lot of these lads have underage national titles. I am quietly confident against Mayo. I just hope the ref doesn't let Tommy Conroy and Aidan run 12 steps without hopping the ball!!!!

Certainly Mayo are the market leaders when it comes to losing the close one's but there are some signs too that Galway are prone to not putting games to bed. Regarding the ref, no doubt whoever loses tomorrow will be able to pick out decisions that didn't go their way and will ignore the calls that go against the winners. Specifically on the steps rule a lot of forwards are getting away with it, though in many cases the forward is being fouled at the same time, a case of referees believing two wrongs DO make a right. sligo joe (Dublin) - Posts: 832 - 24/06/2023 12:20:55 2488783 Link 0 |
