Jesus Pope, your the Brolly/Donal óg of this forum. I dotn want to drag my nephews through rain, to stand on a terrace with moss and weeds. Not have any proper PA system or programme after paying to get in. I think its a fair complaint when compared to other stadia. But no you happy enough to leave us wallow in an embarrasing stadium because why exactly? The_DOC (Galway) - Posts: 738 - 22/05/2023 11:53:31 2480429 Link 0 |

Back to the game and I thought we managed it well when you consider the conditions and the missing players, in the end we finshed missing 4 of the All Ireland defenders, McHugh and Glynn now look doubtful the next day. Burns will get a one match ban and Glynn could miss 2 games if it is a concussion due to protocols (correct in my view) to protect his future health. If it is a jaw injury as reported on Saturday night he could be gone for the Summer. We've done well to replace Molloy and Silke but trying to cover another two would be difficult. Kickouts appear to have got quicker, however there was very little pressure on them following the sending off until the last 5 mins and CG passed this test. Another thing I noticed is that the half forward line have upped their intensity and less diagional high balls are going in on our keeper. He just had one wobble with the ball in the 6th minute when he came but didn't get there and the Tyrone forward got the contact but the issue was cleaned up by Matt Tierney in the small square and the ball was eventually cleared. Fair point well made Belclare:-) This is our year though. Joe Biden said so. 1 in a row. We mean it this time.

I would love to be able to compare the comments between this hit and the one by John Small on McLoughlin that resulted in a double jaw break. Especially the people that defended John Small outside of Dublin.

Is there a Mayo forum/thread?

Small's hit was mistimed, went to shoulder him off guard.. Didn't set out to break McLaughlin's jaw. He's not the first player to lineup a n opponent unawares and he won't be the last.

As Trump would say "Mayo for Sam is fake news - nothing to see here!" lol

What is the nature of McHugh's injury as he would be a huge loss as he is very underrated but gets through a tonne of work carrying ball up and through massed defences relentlessly?

Well you can trawl the archives and try to find comments made by the same posters on both incidents. As for my thoughts, both were mistimed hits and both red cards in my book. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2223 - 22/05/2023 16:40:55 2480613 Link 0 |
He definitely meant it. He lined him up a mile off. It was a filthy challenge. There's always apologists for this type of rubbish. We had people on her defending the Armagh supporter (if you're not togged that's what you are) that went for Damo Comer's eye. Dirty players do dirty things. Agree on the PA! A regular issue. Is it Seamus O'Grady that does it? He has lots of other talents and might be best to focus on those. crankyincorofin (Galway) - Posts: 98 - 22/05/2023 16:42:17 2480614 Link 0 |
Burns shoulder is a red card , no arguments, Small's shoulder should have been a red card.

You can probably trawl back the 2 years of threads and check and compare. Would seem like very odd behavior but each to his own Were Galway people vehemently up for Dublin or something (it made no difference to the result in anycase)? Not my experience anyway but who knows Glynn has a suspected broken jaw also btw. If one was to be pedantic, small made contact with McLaughlins shoulder first. Burns just directly hit Glynns face. Both red cards anyway but not completely similar incidents PressureKick (UK) - Posts: 241 - 22/05/2023 17:25:22 2480637 Link 1 |
Hope Glynn didn't get a broken jaw. A serious player and would be a blow to him and Galway if he's missing. ponga (Mayo) - Posts: 658 - 22/05/2023 17:37:22 2480642 Link 2 |
I don't know Tommy but he must have done something because there is no way Galway would make a tactical change into injury time of the first half and show our hand to Tyrone for the second half, although they underestimated Sweeney who did savage damage as they were so focused on McDaid. I agree with you he is a massive player for us and gets on an enormous amount of ball, we need him and Glynn both fit.

In my opinion, neither Burns nor Small had any deliberate intent to injure their opponent but both incidents were clear sending-off offences. Refereeing decisions must be based on what actually happens on the field and not on what the ref or fans think a player "meant to do". Players are responsible for their actions - if a player decides to line up an opponent for a crunching shoulder, then it is up to that player to ensure that he times the hit correctly and makes shoulder-to-shoulder contact.

But he not a dirty player. Can you name one other dirty incident that Frank Burns was ever involved in?

Meant what? Meant to hit him hard, absolutely. Meant to shoulder him in the jaw? I'd highly doubt it. That would be idiotic. The eye gouge was a completely different incident. No idea why you're comparing that. That was 100% his intention. This was a lad lining up a player for a big hit during actual play. It was reckless, mistimed and he was rightly sent off. You can't hear the announcer in Clones when they present the anniversary team at half time. Clones feels like a museum, they even have the same scoreboard from the mid 90s.

Points noted. Two things I would say in reverse. Pitch in Salthill is top notch. One of the best on the country and gets more traffic than most with hurling commitments also. Kudos to the people who look after the pitch. Also on the toilets the stand in fairness has plenty unlike Castlebar whose stand has a very poor offering in that regard not to mention the pylons in that new stand they have. However I do agree Saturday was not great from some of the perspectives you reference.
