Glynn and Burke wouldn't be considered pacey. Glynn is a very tough tight defender, but he's not that quick. Burke makes space from himself through good movement and clever runs. I've rarely seen him take on his marker and go by him with speed. McGrath and Sweeney are definitely quick, McGrath especially. It's an interesting team selection with a good mix of attributes. With Burke selected you'd expect some quicker ball kicked in to make use of his movement. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2228 - 21/04/2023 16:04:46 2472253 Link 0 |
We play too much respect to teams and Sunday we need to get stuck into Roscommon from the start not the slow ponderous first 20 minutes of league final where Mayo beat us despite us looking much the better side for the rest of the game. Dont let Enda Smith run amok squeeze his space and force him back. I expect Galway to lay down a marker for Roscommon on Sunday and win by 6 points plus. Well you're certainly watching a different Jack Glynn to the rest of us.

You don't think he's a tough defender? He's as tough as nails. Pace isn't his main attribute. Tommy Conroy went at him and by him in the league final, when he had him 1-on-1. He tried the same with Sweeney earlier but Sweeney was able to stay with him. Glynn isn't slow by any means, but he's not as pacy as McGrath or Sweeney. Galway very solid defensively whereby every player from 2 to 15 knows their defensive duties. Plenty of good midfield options and top quality forwards. I'm expecting a tough game tomorrow with Galway to continue their good record in Hyde Park with a strong finish and impact off the bench. Expecting a good game from Ian Burke. 50% chance of rain at 4pm - light breeze. Roscommon have good marksmen in D. Murtagh and Smith. Cox also a decent option from bench. Imo, it has all the looks of a draw.

Really hope Ian Burke goes well today. Gives a completely different dimension to the attack. Not that Finnerty was playing badly but Comer and Walsh could benefit more from space created by Burke inside. Anyone know how far away Molloy is? Chance he could feature in the group stages of the All Ireland? galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 809 - 23/04/2023 11:38:12 2472661 Link 0 |
Hopefully today we see the Ian Burke of old. Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1896 - 23/04/2023 12:15:34 2472684 Link 0 |
Personally I'd play Burke at centre forward and drop Johnny Heaney back between midfield and half back line Kickitout (Galway) - Posts: 970 - 23/04/2023 12:44:46 2472699 Link 1 |
Galway deserving winners today. Well done. Thoroughly deserved victory. Granted ye were not at full tilt when eye on the bigger prize im sure and the new championship format but ye still did enough to get the win while. Walsh was very poor today too so lots of work for ye to do with much better teams to come down the line. Leitrimdivide (Leitrim) - Posts: 84 - 23/04/2023 17:34:29 2472806 Link 3 |
Happy for the win against a gritty Roscommon side. Room for improvement of course but Galway kept their cool when they needed to. Hard luck Roscommon. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2296 - 23/04/2023 17:45:01 2472815 Link 1 |
Galway deserving winners look like there is big improvement to come with Shane not 100% and McDaid and Finnerty recovering. We will also see Molloy back and momentum building as we move towards the group stage. Few goal chances missed again but keep making the chances we will start converting as if we score the goals we are threatening we will be hard bet later in the year. Shane Walsh and Peter Cooke to a lesser extent off the pace today. Walsh sideways passes and long range shots not good. Comer good though. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2585 - 23/04/2023 18:24:26 2472854 Link 0 |
Good win gave ball away so many times conroy at least 4 times way 2 slow brining subs on Mcdaid should being on 55 mins no point talking f about the quality of bench and not using them ,same happened In all. Ireland last year need improved on sideline as well as on field ,, Kickitout (Galway) - Posts: 970 - 23/04/2023 18:27:03 2472858 Link 3 |

2022 - Walsh did his talking on the field. 2023 - Walsh seems to be doing his talking off the field. His shooting was poor today, after a shambolic league final on placed balls. Pope_Benedict (Galway) - Posts: 3918 - 23/04/2023 19:18:14 2472891 Link 5 |
Ian always makes the correct decision.. unfortunately, others don't.. I thought Jack Glynn was very efficient - tidying up with no fuss. McGrath took a ballsy decision to cover ground right to left in second half, and won crucial possession. Comer displayed strikers instinct for his goal. The one problem I see is, they continue to perform as individuals, and management need to work on this.

Good hard fought win. The Hyde is a tough place to get out of with a win. Galway should take an ever improving Sligo with a few points to spare. foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2124 - 23/04/2023 20:02:52 2472909 Link 0 |
Don't think I've seen Walsh as poor hopefully he can get back into a team mindset. What was keegan at with the motm award? Pretty poor form not letting Comer have his day in the sun brisbane (Galway) - Posts: 675 - 23/04/2023 20:04:41 2472912 Link 1 |
