Replying To Mayonman:  "Your comment is ridiculous. A game against Mayo in the Championship is a huge game and it is only a quirk of the draw that it is a Connacht Quarter Final. A Mayo team that have arguable been in the top 3 for the last 10 years.

Heaney is exactly a big game player. Always getting goal chances with intelligent movement. the fact that he got into the position in the AI Final illustrates the point that his skillset works against top opposition. And he didn't exactly botch the chance. Firstly it was not a gimmee and secondly it was an amazing block."
Agreed. I cannot believe some of the commentary on JH. Great player. Yes nothing stays still and we have to evolve but he has had massive critical moments in big games for a number of years now not to mention the last ditch goal line clearance against Mayo in Salthill in '17. He is one of a number of key players we need particularly with the role he has.

Onwards and upwards guys. Big game this weekend.

Pressure valve released if we win but it goes up a few notches if we lose. I suppose that is what being a top team is about......playing all the big guns and on any given day if you are not at it, you will get beaten. You wont get away with it like in D2.

Any news on our injuries?
-Finnerty, when is he due back?
-James Mcloughlin - he can't be too far away if he was getting minutes in early Jan assuming no set back?
-Tomo, I never heard how serious or not his injury was? We could certainly do with trying him out.
-Patrick Kelly, what's the return date?

On the more long term injuries
-Mulcahy, is it a long term injury? heard his arm was in a sling?

Apart from Comer and Molloy anyone else injured

Replying To PierreBezuhov:  "Big games? Connacht quarter finals? Maybe if you're from Leitrim or Sligo.

You have picked moments from games early in the summer to illustrate your point, but derided my highlighting of an incident in an important game, where he had already botched a goal chance. Even in the games you mention, he was relatively anonymous for most of them.

Heaney doesn't have the football to influence big games. He is a fine athlete and a willing runner, and it would not surprise me if he had the best aerobic capacity on the panel. Athleticism alone won't cut it at the level we want to operate at. I would prefer to see someone like Cathal Sweeney given a few starts in his role."
Galway V Mayo championship games are massive. Always have been. What proper galway fan would dismiss that as not important

You don't like Heaney and are scrapping the barrel for reasons. Two managers who both improved Galway football picked him and before you start on KW and defensive football ruining our beautiful football just explain how he did not improve on the disasters that were Mullholland, O Flaharta , kernan etc. Nothing beautiful about the football they managed. Painful years for us

The memories of Galwegians is short.

PJ, must be reading my posts Cian Hernon named in the subs for Sunday. A very exciting player.

Good news for Galway to have Patrick Kelly back and starting and Rob Finnerty named on the bench, if fit I'll likely start also. So could field 11 of the AI final starting team.

Good to see Patrick Kelly back. Cian Hernon, Ryan Monaghan and Nathan Grainger on the bench is interesting.

Also good to see Finnertys injury has cleared up

Gallagher is a strange omission from the 26. I'd love to see him get more game time. He's always done well when given the opportunity but either he has a niggle or may just not be playing as well as he's capable of in training

I think we are plenty capable of beating tyrone. These are 2 points we need to be picking up to ease the pressure a bit

On our best day - yes.. But consistency of performance is a problem for us at the moment. Having said that, the game is on in Tuam, so there will be a huge local support. Hopefully, the groundsmen will have the pitch in good shape, and we cone away with a win. Galway for me by 4 points.

How many times do you think you've typed "of the AI final starting team" in the past month? 25?

Cian Hernon inclusion is a strange one. Looked a very good player on the U20's in 2020 but from what I hear he hasn't played much football at all since. Wasn't in any of the FBD squads even. Turns up out of nowhere on the match day squad then this week.

Where are the scores going to come from on that bench, I'd imagine Finnerty will drop out of the 26 tomorrow.

And Grainger was dropped by all accounts after the FBD. I was told last year that Hernon was taking a break from football!!

Hard see that forward line scoring 5 from play I'd imagine Galway try keep it tight and conceded no more than 10 scores , not saying that will happen but I'm predicting Galway not get more than 10 scores ,

Yes someone said here Yondu is really a Roscommon man pretending to be a Galway man and it looks like that is true.

3 or 4 times. First All-Ireland appearance for 20 years isn't something to ignore. Two of them will be unavailable (Molloy, Silke) so at best come championship time Galway could start 13 of the All-Ireland final starting team.

@tommy k do you want to view my passport with born Galway on it?

Galway U20s bounced back with a good win this afternoon against Cork. 1-11 to 0-7. Late goal sealed the win.
