Look at Shane Ryan in league final v mayo a few years back, cluxton, beggan, Morgan, all star keepers who've suffered similar fate. Still think Lavelle is best keeper in Galway, certainly has the best variety of kickouts. Would like to see more of Flaherty in goal but played very well outfield for Claregalway. He might commit next year hopefully"
"6 foot 4 Cooke beat smaller Lavelle in the air?............... On the 21 yard line ???????
What was he doing out there?
Goalkeeping error, not a height disadvantage, plain and simple.

In the connaught final last year and in the Kerry game we were cleaned out at center field. The Armagh or Derry games were not much better. I thought our centerfield last Saturday was very poor at gaining primary possession or in winning breaking ball. If we are getting beaten consisently at mid field I think there is an onus on management to see is there anyone better around. A lot of people here seems to think the answer is dropping Gleeson but I think the answer is to use the league to try and find one combative midfielder. In my opinion Conroys days as a midfielder are over. I'm delighted with McDaid at mid field as it seems his best position, as he was never impressive at wing back or wing forward but we need a strong physical presence beside him. As regards Cooke I'm delighted he's back in the fold but I dont see him as a mid fielder as I've yet to see him win high ball with either Moycullen or Galway. I'm really sorry to have bothered you with my lazy comments but if you point them out to me I will address them as best I can."
so are you happy or unhappy. cleaned out in four games last year you say but you are delighted with mcdaid at midfield. so you are delighted with 50% of midfirld. you dont want cooke or conroy there either. will we play maher there who struggled in the only game he has played. dont remember glass/moran/aidan o se/ruane great games against us last yr.
do you have any solution or is it just more lazy comments.

I never realised that 21yard is nearer the the small square than the 13m line is but you learn something new everyday?

No need to be sorry we do need a midfielder that can catch, good distribution and good engine. Not a scorer as such. No idea if such a player is within the County if so I would love to hear. Also way better keepers around better than Gleeson. O, Malley, O Beolain, Forkan and Haslam in particular.

No I dont have solutions as I leave that to the management team. I have opinions which I have been very clear to point out are only my opinions and as this is a forum I thought, obviously mistakenly that it was ok to post them here. Another poster pointed out that we won two out of nine Galway kickouts around the center the last evening and if that is good enough for you then fine but we obviously look at things differently. To say that I dont want Cooke or Conroy there is rubbish as it does'nt matter who I want. I am of the opinion and again only my opinion that they are not good for for inter county center field. I mentioned four players in a previous post that I would like to see some of them trialled during the league. They may be good enough and then again they may not be. You are obviously of the opinion that we are fine at mid field nothing to see here move on, and if that is the way you see things that is fine with me

Replying To tommy k:  "I would agree with that. The best midfielder to catch kick-outs and high balls we have had since Kevin Walsh was probably the much under-rated Fiontán Ó Curraoin who is still only 30 but withdrew from the Galway panel a couple of years ago. Like someone mentioned about Flaherty, Joyce should be on his hands and knees begging Fiontán to return to the fold!"
FOC was a tremendous u21 midfielder in '11 and '13. So was his partner Flynn of course. I'd hazard a guess though, that you could count on the fingers of one hand, the number of high balls that FOC caught as an intercounty senior player. Rarely looked the part at intercounty senior level imo. Flynn, who was never your 'cup of tea', made way more impact as a senior county player than FOC.

Agreed about keepers, saw a lot of games last year and the kickout distributor by a distance was Haslam from Glenamaddy. He found men on the run consistently and rarely hoofed and hoped . Very good on frees too. Forkan had a good season too for Stars , O Beolain has been playing well for a number of years , and was in with the panel a few years ago. He is good distributor too.
I saw Dunmore play 4 times and Gleeson didnt inspire confidence with them , never mind Galway. Every time ball played to him its heart in mouth stuff.
PJ and co. must see something that most of us dont.

Not sure what your point is re moycullen, but its getting boring. Moycullen have strong representation ( and rightly so) on panel . But only 3 named on 15 starters.

Must say, I like the full forward line of Ian Burke, Damien Comer and Eoin Finnerty.

I have said it before, Galway need to be more direct up front, and there is a great blend of power and creativity in that line. Of course, Finnerty needs time to bed in - patience required.. We need a greater spread of scorers, so hopefully, Dylan McHugh begins to take on scoring chances.

One thing I note that creeps into our play at times, is a lazy cross-field ball. It has the potential to be the most devastating, but at the same time, most self-destructive tactic if not executed properly.

8 from Moycullen on panel and u can see nothing wrong with that , it's pure madness Corofin won all Ireland's not half as many the 7 Moycullen lads that did not make panel must feel hard done by ,, I suppose when management totally discard any players who don't play club senior it's only going get worse ,3 clubs in Galway have 16 of the 26 on panel for 2 morrow,, hard believe that 16 intermediate and 16 junior clubs have no players,, if not the whole development squads in Galway are a joke ,,

Their not picking players based on their clubs.
If there were 8 from Kilererin, Milltown or Kilkerrin Clonberne you might have a gripe. 3 ex Jarlaths Stars from North Galway 2 of whom live in Tuam can hardly be accused of a bias to Moycullen

Those moycullen players deserve their spots at the moment.Actually surprised Neil Mulcahy isn't starting. If Tomo Culhane and Rob Finnerty were fit they would probably be starting or close enough.

Enough of repetitive nonsense.

Decent weather forecast tomorrow in what should be a good contest. This is Galways first home game since reaching the All-Ireland final so that alone should bring out a larger following. Any changes to the starting team expected? Peter Cooke perhaps.

Plenty of those Corofin lads got chances at Intercounty level

Steede
Leonard
Farraghers
Wall
Molloy
Sice
Lundy
Silke
Burke
Power

Some were up to it some were not.

What Moycullen lad in that 26 is not worth his spot?

FOC was much better at winning aerial ball than Flynn at senior level also and he has had some injuries to deal with which Flynn didn't have.

If he did, it wasn't at any of the games that I attended, which were likely the most important ones. Can you tell me any game of senior intercounty football that FOC played notably well in?
