Yes but it's an A competition, and they beat teams in A grade. So let's not take away the achievement of Dunmore winning it out Belclare (Galway) - Posts: 904 - 30/11/2022 14:38:28 2449159 Link 0 |
Reading all the players that are gone in with Galway 2 things that are very obvious most of them have being in before and did not impress and 2 all from senior clubs the intermediate players in Galway never get a chance and unfortunately prob never will if they called intermediate Senior B they might ,,,,,,, ,, Kickitout (Galway) - Posts: 966 - 30/11/2022 15:49:48 2449171 Link 0 |
Where did i take away from their achievements? Read back, i answered the question "can anyone confirm what grade they (Dunmore) play it in the Connacht series?" Galway championship is a stand alone competition. Connacht series has All-Ireland title on offer for the Connacht winner. Yondu (UK) - Posts: 845 - 30/11/2022 15:51:14 2449172 Link 0 |
My bad . I meant to type Galway instead of Connacht..

I think it's important not to write off potential too soon. Look at Cillian Mcdaid. It has taken him a while to blossom but all he really needed was an injury free run and all of a sudden he's nominated for footballer of the year. Evan Murphy has huge potential, Ian Burke is a former all star, Maher has something but can he step up, Barry Mchugh has been unbelievable in club championships Etc etc No guarantees with any of them but they all have something. Can they put the hard yards in and step up.... hopefully. It is hard for intermediate or junior players to get noticed. Good performances can be written off because it's a lower level but you have to imagine if your good enough and determined enough you will get your chance. Unfortunately intermediate players or junior players no chance in Galway they would prefer keep Bringing back players who are not up to it for last few years some players not even making there club team I wonder is ever other county as dismissing of intermediate and junior players ,,should pick an intermediate/ junior combined team and play the Galway fring players in match and see how that goes Kickitout (Galway) - Posts: 966 - 30/11/2022 17:55:54 2449186 Link 0 |

I read Ian Burke is back training with Galway. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2839 - 01/12/2022 09:04:39 2449205 Link 0 |
Don't disagree with you about it being tough for players at lower grades but you are wrong to be dismissive of the players being brought in. Players mature at different rates. Lots of examples of players blossoming in mid 20's that didn't look up to it first time they were called in

A very good point, plenty on here wrote of McDaid (not me) yet he's now shown that he's one of the best players in his position in the country. I doubt Joyce will have the same issues he's had previously with player availability, last year has shown Galway aren't far away and will go in this year as a realistic contender. I'd still have reservations about a couple of the lads who are back in the squad as still don't think they'll cut it at the top level. If Ian Burke can return to the form of 2018 then he'll be a huge addition. Evan Murphy has played very little football in recent years so might take another year or two before we see the best of him. On a broader note I am very optimistic about the future of Galway GAA. Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1894 - 01/12/2022 12:06:44 2449223 Link 2 |
What's the story with the new jersey? No sign of one at the sponsorship launch. Thought they would have it out before Xmas. galwayman2 (Galway) - Posts: 1291 - 01/12/2022 14:33:03 2449244 Link 0 |
Also, what is the story with team holidays for the hurlers and footballers, haven't seen anything about it. I saw Kerry in Mauritius and Dubai and Kilkenny hurlers in Thailand and I'm sure Limerick probably somewhere in the Caribbean. Are the Galway troops going anywhere nice?

Hopefully they mean it with the development of the underage . I'll believe it when I see it. I'm not going to forget how the CB edited KW departing statement. It was overall positive just said the underage structures needed to be improved and more communication between underage and senior. The members of the CB haven't really changed. Yes it is a small thing to focus on but it was a very telling thing to do. Also stupid because his statement was available elsewhere and the fact they cut it drew more attention to it. What genius thought we'll take this out and sure no one will notice. I know someone else mentioned it as a negative but I'm delighted PJ is calling in lads who've been there before based on their current form. Current form is all that matters and I'd hate if they were being dismissed because they had their chance. Mchugh best free taker in the county and his contribution from play which was his weakness at IC has come on leaps and bounds. Great to see him called in. If he doesn't make it he doesn't make it but I certainly think he has earned his chance. galwayfball (Galway) - Posts: 1704 - 02/12/2022 15:36:07 2449347 Link 1 |
Can't see Walsh being taken off the frees. He was consistent last year. Does McHugh do enough from play then for a jersey. I'm not so sure. Ian Burke definitely does.

There is a feel good factor and sense of momentum behind Galway football at the moment. We need to turn the screw and make a right good go at winning Sam this year, and let's not shy away from that.. our ambition should be to win Sam Maguire because this group of players are talented enough to do it. ahsure. Just wondering how come FBD is straight knockout all other provinces have min 3 games I think it be good to give fringe players game time better than training and they have the Dome no reason counties coukd not play 2 games a week they be training anyway , just a though Kickitout (Galway) - Posts: 966 - 03/12/2022 09:22:06 2449388 Link 0 |
I Would imagine Shane Walsh and Moycullen lads and others will be given a break So that will give Lads like Barry Mc Hugh , John Maher Cathal Sweeney a Chance to Impress rhudson (Galway) - Posts: 1478 - 03/12/2022 11:03:06 2449396 Link 0 |
That's the way Connacht GAA chief John Prenty runs things and nobody seems to challenge him. Today he has the Connacht intermediate and Junior Connacht finals on at the same time in different venues. The Dome Isn't a suitable environment to prepare for the likely outdoor wind and rain for the opening NFL games. All FBD games should be played in provincial grounds with each team getting as you say at least 2 or 3 games. Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3518 - 03/12/2022 12:23:14 2449401 Link 3 |
