Replying To smallfrank:  "We really mixed the good with the bad and conceded way too much but great to get the win.

The Good
Liam Silke, switched on to Cox after 4 minutes and gave an exhibition of tight defending. Never gave Cox a sniff.
Sean Kelly, very little more to be said about him, unlucky not to get a goal.
Heaney, points with both feet and a 45, also cracked the bar.
Paul Conroy, points with both feet, does it every day.
Gallagher, I was impressed, made 2 points for Finnerty, has pace
Patrick Kelly, rarely wastes possession, tall and good pace.
Finnerty, real streak player, 5 from play.
Tony Gill, very good for his age, very intelligent player
Sweeney, made an impact , 2 points. another with pace.

The Bad
Flaherty, he's young so allowed an off day, 59% on our own kickouts and should not be allowing that one hop the bar, Power on crutches so one less option.
McDaid, 3 points for Cox after 4 minutes, switched then, taken off at 24, hard to see it with McDaid.
McWalter, made the goal but dropped one short, unlucky to be hooked at 24.
O'Laoi, fouled, gave ball away, left one short and seemed to drop the head, came off on 44.
Conneely, loses the 50/50 balls, yellow on 30, off at half time, needs to bulk up for this level. Needs to be in the same shape as Ryan O'Donoghue or Tommy Conroy I think."
Harsh on Cillian McDaid I think, as he's not / never was a corner back. Joyce did that with Conor Campbell a few years ago as well and the lad got slated because of it. Starting a natural wing back / wing forward at corner back one on one with a quality forward is a further reflection of the ineptitude of our manager rather than Cillian's performance.

Agree on all points especially three..
Mc Walter very unlucky, Conneely not up to it at all...and Tony Gill , well he was fantastic ...

We have loads of issues and better teams will cause us lots of problems at the back. The Rossies blanket under Poacher was very structured whereas we were still leaving loads of space. Loads of work for our management"
One thing i picked out that we can improve on is the block
The block which is one of the great skills in gaelic football
On a couple of plays Roscommon players were able to kick points
Despits 2 or 3 galway players attempting to block the shot
This is a skill the block the likes of tyrone and dublin have perfected
It is a vital part of the defensive side of a players game
im sure its something Galway can improve on

I have to agree re that. We still do not have enough scoring forwards and are depending on Shane Walsh making runs from deep to link up play, take scores etc. which is too much for one player to do. Rob Finnerty was excellent but he is not going to get 5 points from play in every game. Conneely has been very disappointing and at one point I was wondering was he playing at all until he got the yellow card - ditto for McDaid. In fairness after a sluggish first half they did put a lot more pressure on Roscommon in the second half and the Galway management were much more vocal in shouting out instructions. An OK'ish performance but a lot of improvement required to be much tighter at the back and more efficient at taking scores from a greater number of forwards up front.

But the manager had also picked him wing back and wing forward I believe and he played centre back and midfield a couple of times under Walsh. I am possibly being harsh but he's 25 this year and a long time on the panel and hadn't at any stage nailed down a jersey. He has had too many injuries and doesn't seem as fit as say Sean Kelly or Heaney which is a surprise based on his time in Oz.

Would like to see McDaid further up the pitch. He's a brilliant athlete so could do with his legs at wing forward. He's not a natural defender anyway.

Not sure how many more chances Dessie is going to get. Struggling to even secure primary possession from an accurate pass inside to him. He's a great player for club but intercounty (even FBD League) looks to be too much of a step up. Hope he can turn it around. That miss in front of the posts was poor though.

Good outing overall, particularly the 2nd half. Finnerty stepping up to the level takes some pressure of Walsh and Comer to get scores and can do more work around the field knowing there's a sharpshooter inside. There might be a spot for Patrick Kelly inside too. He was good yesterday and we've seen for MM he can score goals. Looks like we could have a very strong half back line too with Kelly, Daly and Heaney.

Yeah, Dessie is not really producing with the chances he's getting. Especially when you see Finnerty in the opposite corner who will score if you give him any kind of decent service. Brian Mannion looked dangerous in the corner for the Stars any time I've seen him. Would like to see him given a chance.

Looks like a dislocated kneecap for Sean Mulkerrins apparently. Not as bad as a cruciate thankfully but PJ said he expects him to miss the intercounty season given that the league and championship is coming up so quickly one after the other.

The thing with John Daly he has not played senior county since March 2020 and he was available last year but didn't get any game , and now 2 weeks from first league match and he still not play any game ,, I think he a descent player but do management think so ,???

Before Covid JD he was outstanding for us. I assume management are just trying different things.

We must have a super HB line if he can't get in it!

Can Galway clubs lose without controversy this year? Ref plays way over time to allow Faithleachs one last shot and it drops into the square and into the net. Last kick of the game.

Tremendous match all the same.

Valid amount of injury time and correct call, best team moves on to the AI series

Faithleachs should have had two frees I'm before Galway side scored what looked like the winner. I presume ref realised his shocking error we allowed Faithleachs one last chance to level but they got a goal. All in all a good game. But not sure any team can feel hard done by.

Ah in fairness there were frees for Naomh Anna that weren't given as well. One on their number 5 right at the end of normal time as he was bursting through that would have put them ahead.

Very tough to lose like that though. Would nearly have preferred penalties as neither side really deserved to lose.

10 minutes in a half of ET. 2 minutes of added time announced. Ref probably played over a minute extra to that. No real stoppages in added time so you'd have to question where he found the extra minute + out of. Ref was going to give them a chance to have a shot to equalise at least (turns out they got a goal). That said he probably would have done the same no matter who was ahead. Just the way it goes with refs.

Fine game between two good teams. Wasn't much in the way of controversy to be fair, at least Naomh Anna took the defeat on the chin in a respectful manner they should hold their own in the senior championship next year

Doubt he'll be involved this year but Dylan Seoige is worth a look from Galway. Really has tremendous movement at corner forward. And a good free taker. Was a huge miss for Leitir Mor when he went off injured late in the 2nd half. Will be interesting to see how he goes at senior later in the year.
