Genuinely hoping we get to Leinster final. A day in Croker is long overdue

Replying To WesternSeaBoard:  "They blew it. 8 points up with 20 mins to go. Thurles outscored them 12 points to 3. Players seemed to be going for the MOM award. Midfield destroyed all game, puckouts very poor, only for Rabbitte they would have won none, despite that found themselves 8 points up.
Game mgmt was very bad , no changes outside of Niland until 59th min, Thurles not afraid to take off County minors.
Lads on radio saying this lad play for Senior county, it's a joke, all nice hurlers but no resilience, Thurles had in spades and played as a team."
Two bad decisions by two players. Going for a goal a second time and not passing the ball when soloing down on goal and got blocked.

Well on paper… would I be surprised if we finished outside the 3 in Leinster? Absolutely not. But sure isn't this the narrative around Galway for the last 40 years. "On paper they could" (:

Not really no, it's not a 40 year narrative. Apart from the fact that we only joined Leinster in 2009, and only played the multi game format since 2018, I'd say it's rarely been 'a narrative' preceding any of the 2018-2024 (excluding 2020-2021 covid) seasons that Galway would be outside the top3.

Well maybe you're right, but here is the difference: When Galway lose to Wexford, it is seen as a really bad defeat for Galway in the media and a "famous" win for Wexford. That should show you the hierarchy!

That's the media for you. Surprised at a Galway man giving them that much credit ;-)

In terms of all ireland hierarchy, we have more won, and since 1887 we have never lost an All Ireland Final or Semifinal to you.

No, I am going back 40 years as we always thought we had a chance on paper and then underachieve, in that sense. That is the narrative around Galway….the underachievers for the players they had

I sat beside a Wexford fan in Nowlan Park in 2010, and he told me pre throw in that Wexford were going to win, because Galway had never beaten Wexford in championship.

I was taken aback, I thought that Galway had a fantastic chance of winning the game. Admittedly I was only weighing up the calibre of those 2010 teams to arrive at my evaluation, and had conducted absolutely no DNA analysis on the Galway/Wexford psyches as honed from 120+ years of history.

I was right. Galway won the game. FIRST WIN EVER over Wexford, and I recall no Galway person being surprised or excited at the 'feat'.

It's not the case though. ALWAYS doesn't stack up. Galway have 3 wins in the last 40, so always is clearly not applicable here.

It's easy to pee on their tent in 2025 of course, when we all know they're not world beaters. Ridiculously, you seem to assessing that we 'have a chance on paper' this year too though. With that level of naivety, it's no wonder you're ALWAYS disappointed, and blaming it on someone else.

Galway may suffer a bit from higher than normal levels of numbskull hurling fans, who constantly overrate the talent level in their own county. Perhaps that's a factor in your perception of the 'phenomenon'.

It's hard for me to get excited about our feats tbh. Most of them happened before I was born. But I do know Golden Generations come and go in all counties in both codes. Hopefully with the hard work that's being put in on the ground down here we might get another in my lifetime.

By your reply you are suggesting we have very rarely had a team worth mentioning in the last 40 years? Are you saying that with our panel this year you do not think we are capable of a Leinster final and AI semi appearance?

Couldnt see ye winning Leinster not a hope Kilkenny would have to be favourites and the only county capable of beating them on Leinster final day is ourselves. So its between us it is in my opinion.
