Making a mountain out of a molehill. If Niland was the size of Kyle Hayes or Wally Walsh there wouldn't be a geex out of you, Baire. The fact that he isn't gave the impression of a bad hit when it was really something that happens all day long in the cut and thrust of the way hurling is played!

You think a week break is enough after going for 12 months solid for the past 6 years. Stop yourself.

All of Conor's points were from play too. We must get smarter on our own puck outs.

I wanted to wait before passing any comments on this..Byrne was probably very lucky to stay on field but I feel really sorry for refs in all hurling games now..a lot of players now throw themselves on the ground, throw off the helmet and roll around with the slightest physical touch..the overcarrying by every player is now ridiculous..Waterford goal should not have been allowed due to at least 10 steps taken..Wexford lost a player for interfering with the helmet but Offaly man did the same if not worse and stayed on..the number of throw ins during games is gone totally unacceptable and then ref throws it in where 8/10 players are waiting..I only saw one player in all games this weekend being penalised for lying on the ball but it happened on numerous occasions..I thought I was fairly up to date with all the rules but now I don't know what is a free or most times what way the free will go..on Galway thought keeper looked very solid…fahy at half back is definitely good enough..the 2 boys in midfield had moments at different times..niland and Monaghan also showed well at times..cooney scored some great points but gave away 2 stupid frees towards end of the game..I have to question Flynn,he is there a long time and he just doesn't do enough at all, more so in first where I don't remember him being involved at all..vital that whelan stays fit for Galway.. And the ref in the Tipp-Galway game also gave some very soft yellow cards to players on both teams, which makes it all the more strange that he gave no card to Byrne.

There was a stage there early in the first half i think tipp won 3/4 puckouts in a row and converted into scores. But lookit it good to see Fahy get his chance and get experience at this level. Id rather him make mistakes this time of the year than later on!!

I'd imagine or at least hope Henry learned a few things from yesterdays game. John Doe (Galway) - Posts: 230 - 12/02/2024 08:30:01 2525558 Link 1 |
Surprised TJ was picked considering his involvement in the Fitzgibbon and the semi-final being played next Wednesday.

Poor refereeing has destroyed the game over the last decade. Watching Cork v Kilkenny, players don't even attempt a hand-pass now, they just throw the ball. The referees should have stamped this out years ago. The frontal charge is now common-place, with or without the ball. It is and always has been illegal. Referees allowed it in , "breaking the gain line" as in rugby. The Tipp centre back should have got a red card and the final penalty should have been a free out. Referees complain how hard it is to referee the game nowadays, they caused the problem by ignoring the most basic rules. SixtiesKid (Galway) - Posts: 304 - 12/02/2024 09:32:22 2525573 Link 1 |
TJ Brennan has had so many chances at this stage and hasn't taken any. Dublin in Croke Park and yesterday spring to mind of very bad displays. Very hard to legislate or justify another start. Again he starts from ground zero and will have to work his way up. I was hopeful for more from Shane Cooney. He wasn't impressive but think he will come good. Some amount of nonsense posted from an early league game. Kinvara (Galway) - Posts: 128 - 12/02/2024 10:56:00 2525590 Link 1 |
Does anyone know what the story is with Joseph Cooney as Galway could certainly use his physicality and speed around the pitch? I know Shefflin said after the Walsh Cup that he would be back but no word since then. Cathal Mannion and Brian Concannon would make a difference also and as a number of people have mentioned Kevin Cooney is a huge loss but hopefully he may be back for some part of the championship. tommy k (Galway) - Posts: 3326 - 12/02/2024 11:03:17 2525593 Link 2 |
How can someone have a better game then they let on ? I drank 20 pints yesterday but only let on I drank 19. MapleSyrup (Galway) - Posts: 165 - 12/02/2024 11:21:13 2525596 Link 1 |
thats absolute nonsense after one poor day out. These are 3 of the most lads we should keep and develop them. They are physical and can improve. Its the smaller lads who need to go. Still too many of them in the Galway side. Flynn probably past it now alright, O'Shea is too small for this level. Not sure why we need Niland if Conor Cooney is in the side, its one or the other really.

Lads on here very quick to dismiss tj brennan..many of the fellas on that panel have had plenty of chances and are still hanging around..I've seen him a lot in Fitz games and he has been very good..in 2nd half especially last week v ucc..I'm not a Galway person or a relative..if all counties gave players a couple of chances there would be quite a few who would never have made the grade..as I said in an earlier post,I thought there were a few yesterday who definitely deserve extended runs in the team..morrissey and linnane madebig difference when brought in.. Quick to dismiss ? This is his 4th year on the panel. I'd hardly call that quick to dismiss.

Cianan Fahy very good, Dynamic at wing back. WesternSeaBoard (Galway) - Posts: 134 - 12/02/2024 12:26:37 2525624 Link 1 |
Your last sentence is very accurate. Catching aerial ball in tight situations has been a problem for Galway down through the years. The only players that I can remember who did it consistently for Galway were Joe Canning and Johnny Glynn. Contrast that to the likes of KK ( a traditional strong point of theirs) as well as Limerick and Clare in recent years and you can see why that is a huge weapon in the modern game.

Fully agree on O'Shea - had omitted him by mistake from my previous post. There's no chance he's good enough for inter county hurling especially when playing junior at club level. Now I know people will jump down my throat saying Wally Walsh or others play for junior clubs but he has the physique to go with being a good hurler. Also agree there no place for both Niland and Conor Cooney on same time and for me I'd go for Cooney all day long. John Doe (Galway) - Posts: 230 - 12/02/2024 14:31:42 2525666 Link 1 |
