Replying To foreveryoung:  "Cracking championships??? What are you on at all? At the top senior level, you've 3 teams who are way out in front of the rest. Nothing cracking there.

Perhaps in the Senior B, you might get a well balanced championship, with close, tight games."
What 3 teams are these you mention?

Replying To katser:  "The way I see it is.... The CB are either going to relegate 8 Senior B teams to Intermediate or promote 8 Intermediate teams to a new 16 team Senior B Championship...the latter would be the more sensible option, because clubs like Athenry, Ardrahan, Mullagh, Liam Mellows some who have NEVER been relegated haven't a notion of agreeing to OK no bother we will drop down to Intermediate to facilitate the new format...there would be UPROAR and the whole thing would get messy!!!
Have a new Senior B Championship and let some of those tiny football area Clubs go upto a new Intermediate/Junior A Championship.
And basically have two cracking Championships Senior A and Senior B."
Tiny football area clubs ? This is the kind of attitude that really doesnt help hurling in the county. But maybe it was said in jest :)

The gas thing about all of this is if Clubs actually asked the players they would prob bite your hand off of winning and Intermidiate title going through and having a great chance in Croke Park.

I agree some of the bigger clubs like Athnery Ardrahan etc will be opposed to this, but as we all know the current structure hasnt worked ideally with relegation etc for years. Having 16 teams in the 1st three grades as outlined makes it clean and clear for each club. Less games yes but most groups would be tight until the end , plus most clubs would have a chance of winning which would lead to more people going .

From a development point and i know Bellew spoke about this there would be nothing stoping the county board having a Senior , Inter , Junior Training squads for players outside county panels , this could be down once a month in Junior, once every 2 weeks in Senior/ Inter and give decent players coaching and access to top level info in the hope they could prosper in the future.

Side note - Its great having a conversation on here with a lot of great points, i just hope this is clearly defined from the start of the year whatever way is the way forward because as we can see here its a huge issue .

It was due to be Leinster v Galway this time last year don't know if they just pushed that back a year or just skipped it completely, if it's skipped it's to be Ulster v Galway.

I respect the football Clubs and its fantastic that they are promoting hurling in those areas but in my opinion I couldn't see them being able to compete with let's say the top 32 hurling Clubs 16 Senior A and 16 Senior B but still give them a chance of winning Intermediate (3rd tear after Senior A and Senior B).
I think the current system works fine...there is Clairnbridge Senior B in the Co.Final!
This is only my opinion I'm old school, and if a team has deservedly won its way upto Senior and are able to stay Senior well then they should remain Senior no matter how bad they are.

Funny how all of a sudden there's an interest in Galway being competitive at intermediate club all Ireland level now.

Nobody outside of the clubs involved in a given year could possibly have cared less before, and on some occasions you could include the clubs involved too.

Well said John- after all hospitality could- and indeed should- be our middle name.

Hardly all of a sudden. I had a full debate on the issue a few years ago in the Galway forum after I think it was Ahascragh getting a bad beating.
A run in the club All-Ireland can give teams big momentum. It's a rare opportunity and I know of many clubs who've relished the chance.
It's only one part of the issue in any case. A bloated championship with a lot of teams at a much lower standard, isn't good for any competition.

Lads don't know a great deal about strength of Toreen but they were fairly impressive in their last match and do really well at this level.
Do we think they will be too much for Moycullen or are Moycullen rightfully favourites.

Whats your thoughts

They'll probably be favourites going into into but they are the senior champions playing against what is essentially the winner of the third tier in Galway hurling. Toreen aren't bad and wouldn't look out of place some of the teams in Senior B(soon to be intermediate) in Galway.

Tooreen went to extra time with Father O Neills 2 years ago in the Semi Final- Father O Neills have gone on in Cork so thats a fair barrometer, they are porbably stronger then Mayo with the Bolands and a few other lads. Very conditioned and strong a bit like Moycullen. Could be a great game , but i dont think Galway teams should have to travel to Athleague in Inter and bloody Bekan for the Junior .
From what i can see they are the only ones played outside County Grounds?

Will their be a hold up in Connacht? Can toreen travel to london this weekend with this new isolation/testing rule brought in? Not sure of what standard London senior champs are, but should they get over them this weekend they will have a few to spare over Moycullen. The last few inter champs, ballindeeren & kilconieron aside, have been quite poor in standard if truth be told & i include Moycullen in that statement

Well you get that when almost have the Senior teams are Intermediate standard and half the Intermediates are Junior standard. Both Senior and Intermediate need a reduction in teams taking part. Clubs codding themselves.

Don't think Kilconiern are of great standard either. A decent intermediate team but the group they got in senior B was essentially the 4 weakest teams in Senior. Think they could get some awful awful hammerings in Senior A next year...kinda like when Portumna where up there for the last 3 years. Ballinderreen were competitive for their first couple of years up senior B but have lots a lot of the 2017 intermediate winning team and haven't really replaced them and are back down intermediate.

Maybe, but I think they'd be in relegation trouble most years. I reckon Toureen are at the standard of what you call our 3rd level i.e. our current immediate level. Could be a close game but I think Moycullen will prevail.

Ya, they'd be a good intermediate team (semi finalists most years) and could probably beat a few of the average senior B teams on their day. The two teams they did beat from Galway have been subsequently relegated since so probably tell ya the level really.
