Replying To Cockney_Cat:  "Point taken. You came out the wrong side of a very close game today, between two evenly matched teams.
This will hurt the Galway team, especially the way the match ended. But all is not lost. They have 2 weeks to regroup before you face either Offaly or Tipp."
Galway cannot afford to fall behind. They need to be in front going into the last 10 minutes, not 7 points down.

I agree with what you say, absolutely We are capable of much more. 3 Galway players almost beat Kilkenny on their own today and actually should have won.

Replying To endgame:  "That Galway team is going nowhere under Shefflin but they still had that match won today with any cuteness at all by any one of a number of their defenders."
Said it before the game and nothing has changed. He has shown no trust in his panel since he took the job. Look who Kiely took off. Fan of J cooney but not sure what he done today. Despite what the commentary was saying I thought P Mannion was extremely poor and I posted that before the end on the other thread.
The final play was just on highlights show and it was a comedy of errors.

Having said all that…if Tipp get through galwsy will no doubt be a better team next time

You sure about that? I quote from Wiktionary"

banter

Etymology
1670s as verb, 1680s as noun. The origin is unknown, possibly from London street slang; ostensibly as *bant +‎ -er (frequentative suffix). Possibly an Anglo-Gaelicism from the Irish bean ("woman"), so that "banter" means "talk of women.""
Relax Cat! I knew someone would bite. The banter was my comment that we invented the word! Of course we didn't. The word is older than 1776. But thanks for the etymology lesson!"
Your telling me to relax after Kilkenny won the Leinster today?
As for 'I knew someone would bite', I asked you a civil question ,I didn't realise you were talking shite, trying to catch someone out. Well done, haha, you win.

And would you blame Mcinerney, Cooney and mannion for their efforts or lack of for the goal?
That's the big difference with limerick and the rest. They don't slam on the panic button at the end of games. Galway have done it a few times over the last few seasons. They aren't showing composure

Replying To Trump2020:  "Part of his JOB is to be critical when he needs to be. Canning looked a bit annoyed but sometimes you have to call a spade a spade. I had no problem with it."
I don't think anyone would argue with a pundit being critical, but that comment was pure BS. He said it off air and Joannes eyes lit up because she knew it would cause a stir. Whelan should have been criticised for his performance vs Dub but as an overall player it was very strange

Joe was correct in his assessment of the ball in in that game, but even overall it was madness. Tyrell suggesting Whelan hasn't stepped up in Joe's absence? I disagree with that.

And the one trick pony comment? I didn't understand that. What is the one trick? He showed a fair few tricks today playing all over the place

On the game, I didn't think Galway were too bad. Unforced errors again but some good performances. Kevin Cooney is a brilliant hurler

I thought HS made a mistake having Mannion on Cody. I know he's given Grealish the run around but Mannion is more suited as a distributor and they missed that

Replying To endgame:  "No. Do you expect pundits not to comment on how players are performing. What sort of analysis would that be. Conor Whelan was brilliant today and it was the pundit Jackie Tyrell who looked foolish. Really sorry to see Galway lose that game. They should have closed it out."
Great post.

I was also having the craic, a bit of banter, about our inventing the word. But that you didn't suss that, you decide to label it '*****' talk. Actually, I'm surprised to see a cat so slow on the pick-up!

The ref was sound, I thought. I'd take him over Owens or Walsh every day of the week.

Should have could have but didn't and remember that was a patched up average Kilkenny team so not looking good for Galway for rest of championship I'm afraid.

I'd be more critical of gmac and cooney then mannion for shambles at the end."
Did McInerney get hurt just at the start of the messing in the corner? I thought he looked like he got hurt. He barely swiped at the ball one handed. Doubtful he'd be that careless if he wasn't hurt.

Of course they didn't give up. They were only 2 points down in a Leinster Final. Any team giving up when one score would win the game would be very odd.
Galway also didn't give up. They came from 8 points behind to lead by 2. I have to say it impressed me. It would have been very easy to fold at that stage.
The goal at the end is of course an awful way to lose, and very much self-inflicted, but there's only one way deal with it. On to the next game.
It's similar in a way to 2020. We lost a Leinster Final we should have won, then got Tipp in the quarter. Could be the same this year, and let's hope for a similar result.

He looked to me like a lad that never hit a ball off his left side before...

Tough day at the office for Galway. Gutted for the players and management. However,
I am thrilled to be a Galway supporter, especially with how we stayed in it and could have won it.
Kilkenny were in a similar situation a couple of years ago where Galway was bearing down goal.
They use a professional foul. We got beat that day also. If you stick around with the cats you learn all the tricks.
Yesterday, Kilkenny won fair and square, no complaints. We are still in it.

If Clare don't beat KK at the semi this year, there's a lot of 'pundit' scutthher and spew to be mopped and licked up about the Munster hurling championship.........and for the second year in a row too.

Isn't a snowballs chance Galway will beat Tipp. I expect Tipp to hit more goals against us than KK did yesterday. Our key forward yesterday does struggle with consistency and I expect Tipp to hold him to a score or two, mostly to the fact he will be double marked to the point of frustration. Frustrating we've no puc out strategy only to 'launch it'. I was looking at our shape in forwards yesterday and all bunched, which is fine if you break to wings when ball hit, but no, just launched down into the traffic...which KK ate up all day.

It's amazing how much narratives is of Galway playing in fits and giving themselves too much to do yet Kilkenny have done similar in games v Galway x2 and Wexford throwing away leads or starting slowly
