Replying To endgame:  "That Galway team is going nowhere under Shefflin but they still had that match won today with any cuteness at all by any one of a number of their defenders."
Your insinuation that they'd be going "somewhere' under an alternative manager, is a topic that you might expand on, if you can?

Listening to Shane Dowling after the Munster final today and the way he spoke about Limericks backroom team to the sponsors, how everyone pulls in the same direction and its all about providing the best of everything for the players to excel. Maybe it's time for a total overall of Galway GAA. I wonder are the players stopping in a Plaza on the way back for a complimentary burger meal. #total overview...

Replying To foreveryoung:  "Commiserations, Galway hurling. Even I feel sickened for ye. Those cats must have 29 lives, never mind 9. Two good finals today, but wholesale errors by all four teams in them, and lots of slip-ups on the sidelines by managements as well. So, all teams left in the AI series still have a chance. Galway have a lot to work on, but still well in with a shout.

Btw, do you find Jackie Tyrrell's 'one trick pony' comment about Conor Whelan a bit strange? I like Tyrrell and think he's a very good pundit, but Whelan is a class act. He really showed that again today. Any player can have an off day like he had versus Dublin. But overall, he's top-notch. Imagine if he got the regular supply of good ball that Gillane and Flanagan get for Limerick, what damage Whelan would do then!"
Tyrrell was big enough to 'eat humble pie' at the end of the match, and pick Whelan as his (and RTEs) Man of the Match.

That was big of him . He had no choice but to eat it.

I know. I noticed this even through my anger, misery, annoyances, etc. Kilkenny teams have a knack for this kind of thing. Sigh.

Joseph Cooney also poor - no pace/mobility/playmaking skills for midfield. Tbh, have to hope we don't draw Tipp, as the result could be embarrassing..

Part of his JOB is to be critical when he needs to be. Canning looked a bit annoyed but sometimes you have to call a spade a spade. I had no problem with it.

You're sounding like a lad with a severe bout of hemorrhoids reporting from that armchair. Very bitter 'reporter' you make.

I can. Galway capable of better. Can't see any strategy or improvement under Shefflin. Do you disagree with that when you're so fond of asking questions.

You will be playing Tipp or Offaly. You will need to compete well for the primary and secondary ball and not let them get the ball to run at you. You are lacking in pace in general but if you play to your strengths there's no reason you shouldn't put up a big score. If you keep them to a goal or less I'd fancy you to beat them.

Replying To fishpond:  "I totally agree Conor Cooney only touched the ball once and made a mess of it and he stayed on for 60+ minutes you need 15 men playing good to beat Kilkenny"
Maybe not even 15 good players, or 15 playing really well. What you definitely need is 15 men who will chase, harry, hook, block and spoil for the full 70 plus minutes. Because limited though that Kilkenny team is in some positions that's what you will always get from them. Stylish, wristy lads, even big stylish wristy lads, won't get far against them without workrate and intensity as they won't ever have the ball in hand long enough, if at all, to do anything with it.

Replying To Belclare:  "Stop ... Walter Walsh leaving our backs for dead..... the size of him!"
He rolled back the years and played very well. The trick to limiting his influence is don't let him start running in the 1st place. He went to school with our Matthew O Hanlon. That's the way Matthew has always played him since underage and it usually works.

Kilkenny were poor today compared to the last day. They didn't get their running game going and were missing some of their better players. They do know how to score goals though. That's 8 in 2 games now.

Ballygunnar did it to Ballyhale 2 years ago, after Ballyhale doing it themselves in previous rounds. Your u21s did it to us in 2018. It happens in hurling more times than it should by law of averages.

Replying To Cockney_Cat:  ""...that it's all just a bit of banter. Shure, didn't we Americans invent the very word?"

You sure about that? I quote from Wiktionary"

banter

Etymology
1670s as verb, 1680s as noun. The origin is unknown, possibly from London street slang; ostensibly as *bant +‎ -er (frequentative suffix). Possibly an Anglo-Gaelicism from the Irish bean ("woman"), so that "banter" means "talk of women.""
Relax Cat! I knew someone would bite. The banter was my comment that we invented the word! Of course we didn't. The word is older than 1776. But thanks for the etymology lesson!

Does nobody see a problem with our national broadcaster , via paid pundits , picking out young amateur sportsmen and criticising them to the entire country, both cian nolan and Conor Whelan the main victims today amongst others, the one trick pony remark being the most egregious , but given the crisis in mental health amongst this particular demographic, surely a more subtle and understanding approach to analysis would be preferred, if not demanded,

Mentioned before about a corner back not up to it..was brought on and fumbled a ball on sideline and looked jittery, but it was the way he surrenderd to Buckley for the goal. I don't blame the lad, I blame the mgmt for this.

No. Do you expect pundits not to comment on how players are performing. What sort of analysis would that be. Conor Whelan was brilliant today and it was the pundit Jackie Tyrell who looked foolish. Really sorry to see Galway lose that game. They should have closed it out.

Once again too many sideways passes from Galway. But ref did not give us too much either. Very bad luck from Galway. Hard to see where we go from here really.
