Replying To Whammo86:  "The league format looks good.

I just don't like the 2 legs for Championship, otherwise looks like it'd work well. The 2 legs isn't about teams being scared to play, it's more about no one caring about the game."
The 2 legs are about giving each team a home game instead of a neutral venue. There were some good Super 8 games when the host counties had their own provincial grounds.

Pot 1. Kerry, Dublin, Tyrone and Mayo.
Pot 2. Donegal, Armagh, Galway and Kildare.
Pot 3. Monaghan, Roscommon, Clare and Meath
Pot 4. Cork, Down, Offaly and Derry.

Down v Kerry, Newry.
Kerry v Down, Killarney.

Clare v Galway, Ennis.
Galway v Clare, Salthill.

The lower ranked county has a vibrant home leg with an electric atmosphere. All teams in the All-Ireland series should be confident of a positive home result ahead of the 2nd leg.

Yeah you can give each team a home fixture using my method.

Teams play 2 games against different teams.

Win 2 and go through
Win 1 go to a playoff
Win 0 get eliminated

To all the doubters read Pat Spillane today. He's putting the GAA first and as he talks about Croke Park lying empty from July, well we all know how they can use it. Opens doors for other sports with a 6 month national break in GAA.

As decided by an overwhelming majority of the GAA's governing body Congress.

There's more to the GAA than senior intercounty football also.

A real problem with the GAA at inter-county level is that it was pretty much all year round but with a lot of low impact fixtures.

They could come up with a format that increases the number of Croke Park games too. It doesn't actually host that many.

Club championships won't be using Croke Park until All-Ireland stage so he is right.

The solution is the return of the interprovincial championship. It will need the GAA, GPA and the national broadcaster RTÉ fully behind it.
They would have to stage the games on Wednesday nights. The format can be round robin format with top 2 into the final in Croke Park. Home and away fixtures can revert every year.
They can play one game a week to stretch hurling and football interprovincial championships from mid August to mid November.

Interprovincial Autumn Series: (Wednesday nights)
Aug 24. Munster v Leinster (H = Hurling)
Aug 31. Connaught v Ulster (H)
Sep 07. Connaught v Leinster (F)
Sep 14. Munster v Ulster F
Sep 21. Ulster v Munster H
Sep 28. Leinster v Connaught H
Oct 05. Leinster v Munster F
Oct 12. Ulster v Connaught F
Oct 19. Munster v Connaught & Leinster v Ulster H
Oct 26. Connaught v Munster & Leinster v Ulster F
Nov 02. Interprovincial Hurling Final
Nov 09. Interprovincial Football Final

While it might seem a bit mad to restore the Railway Cup, if the GPA get behind it, the best players will be involved. If RTÉ get behind it,the Wednesday night games will be broadcast.
Players will play no more than 4 games over 3 months. They could adopt the International Rules style interchange of players so as to keep the impact on weekend club games to a minimum.
The CPA would have to be included in the plans do that agreement can be found in respect of all stakeholders.

The CPA disbanded itself.
Players would be too busy playing important Club games to have any time for this long dead tournament.

Croke Park has never been used all that much. It's a silly argument that's got nothing to do with the new calendar is my point.

We're not giving the free run to other sports that Spillane argues over either as we are giving the club game a better profile and actually giving players a proper well defined season.

No it's not, it's a case of looking after the players at both inter-county and club level.

Better training to games ratios for those at county level. Might help with retaining players too.

At club levels players actually get a meaningful fixtures calendar to plan their lives around.

We can have a proper intense impactful season in the GAA without dragging it out all year. American football attracts the largest attendances of any sport in the US and it's season only last 5 months.

Yes it is. American football has nothing to do with GAA, over there it's a day out for a game which lasts hours. Only good thing is the qualifiers where you get to see more tight games where teams of the same level might meet each other.

Do you still believe there will be 27 teams in the Qualifiers in 2022?

Not if COVID kicks in again. Only 4 teams don't get second chance.

Spillane to be fair was throwing out the suggestion of an alternative split season:
1. For the first six months of the year you'd have club hurling and inter-county football.
2. For the last six months you'd have club football and inter-county hurling.

It's a silly idea too. There are dual club players that need to be accommodated.

Fully agree, also need to think about inter county players who are club dual players, I think everyone on the wexford hurling panel bar 1 or 2 players are dual players with there clubs, football panel probably about 80% of them are dual club players.
