The inter county season is over. There will be a few changes in the hot seats around the country before the next one begins. Who would the supporters in the different counties like to see manage their county next year and why? Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 12074 - 24/08/2021 15:17:09 2374418 Link 1 |
I honestly don't think we will have Liam Cahill. That is done and dusted. The only if, is he annoyed with the county board when they over looked him last time in spite of his pedigree. However I think he is a Tipp man to the core. I thought Derek McGrath would go to Wexford and now maybe back to Waterford. He did a reasonable job the last time but I would be concerned of his reading of the game when he picked Cork . A potential manager needs to be better. I am no expert but I predicted Limerick pulling up on here. Which was not too hard when you evaluated the two team's strengths and weakness. You could start by giving us your Wexford preference!

The return of Derek McGrath is not what Waterford hurling needs.

Where will Davy Fitz go? Galway? bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 24/08/2021 23:03:19 2374546 Link 1 |
A restrictive-style manager like McGrath or Davy is not what Waterford need. At least Cahill left players express themselves, and you can see how well they did (with more in them, let me add). Don't think Michael Ryan would ever come back, but you know what, Waterford could do far worse!

Cahill to Tipp, Eddie brennan to Waterford and Davy to Galway (slightly joking about last one!) tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 25/08/2021 07:52:53 2374563 Link 0 |
Rumours down here have included Brennan, Shefflin, Sheedy, McGrath, and Maher. Even Cody was spotted in Wexford Park lol!!!!! Personally I think Maher would be best for us. With Niall Corcoran on the backroom team as a coach. Definitely a Munster man would be better than a Leinster man as I dont think any Wexford men have had winning championships experience except JJ Doyle and apparently he is not interested. A Kilkenny man managing against his home county 2 or 3 times a year would be a big ask for him especially in a Leinster final.

We havent won an underage All Ireland since the 60s I'd say any of those managers are likely dead.

Tempting offer Katser! But if I was on the county board I'd still be turning it down!!!

Have heard all sorts of rumours that Donoughue and Brennan are on the shortlist for Tipp. Can't see either in a million years. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 25/08/2021 12:18:05 2374637 Link 0 |
See I think Derek was the opposite. Too lovey duvy with the players and that impeded him making decision. In fairness he did take care of his players. The catch for Waterford if he would come on board would be Brendan Cummins. He lives in the Nire Valley now. Michael Ryan would be a great assistant but you also need a top coach/trainer. In fact this is the most important job. I honestly don't rate Brennan very high.

It is rumoured that Henry was interested in the Waterford job last time. The Shefflin family have a presence in Waterford forever. I think he has inhibitions about managing against Kilkenny but that may have changed. The great successful Brian Cody has blocked the path to Kilkenny and many potential leaders may have been lost.

Rumour mill in Wexford is going gang busters. Every sort of name and face being mentioned. StoreysTash (Wexford) - Posts: 1737 - 25/08/2021 15:54:19 2374705 Link 0 |
I'm just glad Darren Gleeson has signed up for another year with Antrim. Hats off to the man and his backroom team for their commitment to travel the length of the country to help us improve and improve we have. Hopefully we can continue that next season, what a lift it would give the place! SaffronDon (Antrim) - Posts: 2386 - 25/08/2021 16:16:37 2374712 Link 0 |
There you go- the Galway crowd will always blame somebody else and never face the fact that they were not good enough. They have a scandalous record in All Ireland Senior Finals, losing four of every five finals they were ever involved in. But there is always an excuse.
