Liam's Parentage

(Oldest Posts First)

I see where the Lord Mayor of Cork is making a case that the Liam McCarthy Cup was 'Corks by right', because the father of the man the trophy commemorates was a Cork man, which indeed he was. However, Liam's mother was a Dineen from Crawford Lane in Bruff and it appears that Liam is enjoying some quality time with his mother's people. He might even decide like to hang out with us for a while longer.

Worst of all they are still calling themselves "Lord" down in that supposed bastion of republicanism

Of course, he'll wanna stay. Sure, there's mighty craic and porter down Limerick way. Btw, who is the Bruff man that re-invented the sliothar? That's something that I'd never heard before.

Well, I understand Queen Victoria offered to bestow the title Lord on the Mayors of Cork, Dublin, Belfast and Limerick; the first three gladly accepted it, but Stephen O'Mara the Nationalist Mayor of Limerick declined the offer.

It was John McAuliffe in the 1950s - after many years of trial and error.

Maybe, Most of JFKs mothers people came from Bruff. But he is not Bruffs most famous son. Sean Finn wins that accolade- because he is THE MAN.
