Performance Of The Decade!

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Replying To Curlew66:  "Much too early to say yet, great wins in '06 and '12 as well but the outcome of the resulting deciders took a little of the gloss from both victories. (similar to Donegal in 2014 semi final, their finest performance under JMcG) If as I hope Mayo close the deal in next month's final the significance of this semi final win over Dublin will magnify a thousandfold in the momentum and confidence it will have given Mayo. An All Ireland win irrespective of the performance would go down as Mayo's greatest day in 70 years and what a popular victory that would be throughout the country and beyond. Dublin's wonderful successful run apart, no other team has given the same entertainment in the past decade as those warriors in the Green and Red. Having witnessed the raw passion and final day disappointments of their huge loyal following over the years very few would begrudge them the privilege of bringing Sam to Castlebar."
Would love to see them win it especially lee keegan, 1 of my favourite players to watch in the last 10 years!

As long as England don't win the World Cup or the Euros and Mayo never win an All ireland I'll be happy enough.
Could you imagine the bs we'd have to listen to if they ever won it? it's coming home wouldn't even come near to it.
Have Mayo a song yet? maybe an oul tune on the banjo from Cillian? they had no song in 2012 think that was another excuse, we had 'Jimmy's winning matches' that timeless classic to enjoy and keep the oul buzz going, magic days for sure.

Replying To Immer:  "Mayo and Kerry SF replay in the Gaelic Grounds was incredible. I think because extra time is quite rare in the championship games take on a crazy dimension. Atmosphere wise Donegal and Mayo in 2019 was pretty great too. I'd never seen a crowd like that in McHale Park before."
Good shout on the Mayo v Donegal game in 2019. The saw doctors playing on the pitch beforehand added to the atmosphere even more.

You really are the worst type of fan...worse than a wum. Happier when other teams rather then celebrate your own team when they win. You have more in common with English soccer fans than you think.

I'm always happy for winning counties who rarely win. For the volunteers and players who put so much into it. For the fans who travel up and down the country, for those watching and listening to the games from hospital beds. For Mayo fans like my own father who can't go to Mayo games anymore due to illness...they have been lifted by the Mayo runs in recent years. For people like that what an all Ireland win would mean is unmeasurable. I get emotional even thinking about what it would be like to win Sam. Hopefully this year. Up Mayo

The only thing Donegal should ever be remembered for is muck ball and hiding up trees in Kerry spying on the opposition.

Man caught up a tree spying on Kerry training ahead of All Ireland final in 2014

"A MAN was spotted by members of the Kerry backroom team perched on a tree while a 'behind closed doors' training session was taking place.

The Donegal man was close to then manager Jim McGuinness and was rumbled when members of the Kerry back room team heard the noise of rustling branches coming from the grounds of St Fenan's Hospital, the now vacant psychiatric unit adjacent to Fitzgerald Stadium where the senior squad trains.

Kerry beat Donegal in the All Ireland final a few days later".

How low is that.

Replying To Galway9801:  "I know it's difficult to guess an attendance, but any game with less than 50 000 spectators should be moved around to the likes of the gaelic grounds, Thurles, Páirc Uí Chaoimh etc, Croke Park is an amazing stadium that I'm proud of as a GAA man but it has to be at least 60/70 000 full to get a proper atmosphere there from my experience.
I'd love to see all Ireland semis and quarters moved around the country."
100%, there are great grounds all over this country and towns and cities that could use the hit of a big match.

The gaa should spread the wealth a bit more and not take all the big games to dublin.

Your right . No better feeling than winning Sam. Good thing about the delay from a Mayo fans prospective is more time to enjoy talking about the final. No matter who they play I think there will be 31 counties behind you plus the hearts of the other one. It might only be sport but It's invaluable the lift it gives people.

Not so sure about that being the performance of the Decade... ;o)

Kerry defeated Tyrone by 6-15 to 1-14 in the Allianz Football League Division 1 Semi-Final on Saturday June 12th
Just over 2 months later and, Kerry, the favourites for Sam this year by most people, are beaten in an All Ireland Semi Final by a Tyrone squad severely Covid hit prior to throw in.

Did kerry take their eye off the ball again this year and assume they would make the AI final before they even got there.?

All the hype on these kerry lads seemed to work against them yet again me thinks....

The bookies are not the only people laughing tonight....

I would rate Tyrone's performance as more exceptional than Mayo's.

Was not hugely surprised by Mayo beating Dublin, but really didn't give Tyrone much of a squeak other than based on fact that voodoo and all as it may sound, they are one of those teams that put the wind up the Kingdom.

In fairness to Kerry, they were bound to be affected by the dreaded favourites tag. I thought Tyrone had no chance. Some v respected pundits all going for a Kerry win. As the old saying goes, praise weakens you

To be fair it never did Dublin any harm 31 counties against them.

Nor westie had one too many in a bar once upon a time ,and took a clipping of a few mayo lads I reckon.
That kind of attitude gets you in all sorts of trouble in real life.

Dream final, if Tyrone win Tyrone fans will be happy and Mayo will not but if Mayo win then who would begrudge them Sam.
