No, I don't think Kerry will bring in a manager from the outside, not going to happen. It's hard to lay too much blame at the door of Keane for yesterday, basic schoolboy error by David Clifford led to Tyrone's first goal, cant blame Keane for that, that was pure rustiness due to a long lay off but Keane will still pay the price. Kerry were sloppy and hardly laid a hand on Tyrone, not enough aggression at all and it's now people will start to question Keane's decision to part company with Buckley even more. Tomas Ó Sé is well fit to manage Kerry, no worries there. AfricanGael (UK) - Posts: 1947 - 29/08/2021 11:58:29 2375952 Link 0 |
Big leap from pundit to intercounty manager AG

top intercounty footballers often dont make good managers, case in point Galway. Had Galway a decent mangement team in place we would have beaten Mayo a few weeks back. BilboNaggins (Galway) - Posts: 59 - 29/08/2021 12:54:58 2375979 Link 1 |
No doubt Jack O'Connor will be top of the list but something tells me that Tomás Ó Sé will be well in contention. I know he wants the gig. Maurice Fitzgerald will likely be another candidate. AfricanGael (UK) - Posts: 1947 - 29/08/2021 13:06:01 2375984 Link 0 |
If PK goes then the quest for a manager is on but until then the status quo remains the same. A bit of realism is required now. Kerry only lost by 1 point in extra time yesterday and outscored Tyrone (although goals win games). Its not all doom and gloom for Kerry but once again hearty congratulations to Tyrone and all the best going forward. CiarraiMick (Dublin) - Posts: 3851 - 29/08/2021 13:11:08 2375988 Link 0 |
Sorry Barney I find you to be a good poster but who in Kerry were treating our draw with dublin in the league like a championship win? From what I remember we were all worried by how easy ye open our defence for 4 goals, and we were right to be worried as we were opened again yesterday for 3 goals, but there is no point us worrying about conceding goals as we just don't have a good defence and we have to accept that, so that just leaves us 1 option and that is to try and outscore the opposition which doesn't always work. It wouldn't surprise me to see Rochford manage Galway at some point, it's easier to work with natural footballers unlike what he's doing at the moment. Kerry will never bring in a manager from the outside. AfricanGael (UK) - Posts: 1947 - 29/08/2021 13:18:49 2375993 Link 0 |
Yes and had Roscommon a decent management team in place, we'd have beaten Galway. The only difference in Connacht at the moment is that Horan is a far better Manager than Joyce or Cunningham so Mayo go forward while Roscommon and Galway go back.

Roscommon could have had Jim Gavin at the helm and the result wouldnt have changed

So the only reason Galway and Roscommon aren't in the All Ireland final is bad management? If either of ye had won Connacht this year ye wouldn't have beaten the Dubs. I keep hearing these excuses and it's been going on for years…Mayo are "further down the line of development" or "mayo have better s&c" "Donie Buckley was another one from a few years back" and now it's the "Horan Factor"…..not one mention of the players themselves. Mayo have better footballers?

Would love to see Rochford come in to the Galway scene as the main man, his Corofin team were just something else!

There's plenty of the sour grapes from some Kerry supporters and former players etc. It's crazy how it all started. An intense performance by a great and young team in 2003 dominated and beat a complacent Kerry team. We had been close to All-Irelands and it was our first, but they wanted to diminish that. Kerry have 37 All-Irelands, they should be more magnanimous. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of eejit Tyrone supporters too, but I don't think there was the same level of sour grapes from any Tyrone media or commentator after the many times Kerry have beaten us in the championship since 2008. I think some of Tyrone's reaction to Kerry comes from being treated very condescendingly and expected to koktow to the 'aristocratcs'. I think Spillane in the 80s said Tyrone had loads of good looking women and maybe if we sent some down to Kerry to distract them we would have a better chance of winning the AI. Aswell, every time Tyrone have beaten Kerry they have been wrote off by the media and expected to be beaten by Kerry's individual brilliance. In my opinion the Tyrone team that lined out in 2005 had better individual players than Kerry. HokeyPokey (Tyrone) - Posts: 1744 - 29/08/2021 14:26:37 2376024 Link 1 |

I wasn't slagging Kerry. It did mean a lot to them, and was significant in them coming back from what looked like another defeat, which would have been big blow. All hindsight of course, as easy to read into things from a distance. Including the way Dublin's year transpired too. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3331 - 29/08/2021 14:57:57 2376033 Link 0 |
Ah ya look when you're 7 points down to dublin in the second half of a game and you come back to draw then of course you'll be happy but it didn't paper over the obvious cracks that are there in our defence and those cracks have been there a long time unfortunately for us, I pointed it out during the week and that the game was 50/50 and I was accused of playing yerrah card.

I would agree, Kerry came back strongly in 2nd half of extra-time. There was very little in it.

Everyone had wool over their eyes. Fact is the Dublin v Kerry final was being touted from months ago. Everyone has plans and is an expert until you're not. Funny watching media today and how the whole dynamic and thinking changes after one game. Same happened after the 1st semi final. After a good few years of predictable winners we now have uncertainty. The final is 50/50 and jumping ahead next year will be very interesting.

Could people explain why when players get frees inside the 50, refs take no notice of players from every county stealing yards when kicking from their hands, Morgan takes a free from near the halfway line and ref makes him take it back 4 yards. If they would pay more attention to the closer in ones. Said it before, time for the white foam to mark spot. Saynothing (Tyrone) - Posts: 2186 - 29/08/2021 15:45:45 2376045 Link 4 |
