It's got the go ahead at last. Be great to see it done; current derelict one looks like something out of a disaster movie. Not that it will be a problem for a while, but I wonder what they will do about parking? I used to park the car randomly up on a pavement and hope for the best. essmac (Tyrone) - Posts: 1141 - 29/07/2021 02:11:10 2365346 Link 1 |
It's long overdue but a very welcome development. Already the Unionist media are today questioning the costs. They never said a word about the redevelopment of Windsor Park or Ravenhill but Casement is in their sights because it's a GAA stadium.

Great to hear a solid statement of intent and hopefully this one doesn't get hijacked with the usual side show of unionist politicians pretending to have 'deep concern' for the safety of people living in Andytown for the first time in their lives! As for parking, it's a bit like Croker really, best to park a bit away from the stadium and walk in. If your coming off the M1 from Tyrone you might be better taking the Blacks Rd turn off and parking down near Finaghy which is a short walk to Casement and you'd be back on the motorway without major hold ups. The Kennedy Way turn off is closer but busier, especially at weekends/matchday. There are 2 shopping centres plus Boucher road for parking there but they are busy enough at the best of times so I'd say your best bet is the first suggestion there. What changed with the MORAG to get the go-ahead in the end? Suas Sios (None) - Posts: 1558 - 29/07/2021 13:17:07 2365473 Link 0 |
Theres none in Tyrone, Monaghan, Fermanagh or Donegal. There is a handful of stations in Derry and Armagh. I assume the Ulster Council have a lucid business plan for why this will work which would include ground transportation....Most people will have to drive/bus it as rail services in Ulster are pathetic. Yep, Finaghy Station is about a 5 - 10 minute walk from the stadium

Great news. It was an awful shame the way it went to rack and ruin. Long overdue. Bon (Kildare) - Posts: 2336 - 29/07/2021 13:34:07 2365486 Link 0 |
Well surely it's better than the current plan of having it on a county with no station and limited bus routes by comparison

Even if they don't have a plan it'll still be easier to access on match day than Clones was. I dont remember anything in the way of rail routes, parking, bus schedules that were fit for purpose down there.

Was a great place to sit on a grass bank with a can or 2 watching a game back in the early 90s Bon. Black taxi from the city centre bring you right by the ground.

Did you have to bring in the unionist angle into the thread immediately. Why not simply be positive about some good news!! KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3758 - 01/08/2021 23:03:49 2366685 Link 1 |
