Joe Canning Retiring

Words do not do justice to the fantastic contribution Joe has made to the game.
When hurlers are spoken about Joe is there with the greatest.
His goal v Kilkenny in the drawn AI game is one of my favourite moments but there are just so many as a minor , club games and of course in the maroon for the senior team.
But its his legacy of inspiration to so many young players over a great many years is beyond question. An absolute joy to watch.
Thanks for all the great memories Joe. Very best wishes for the future. A Carlow fan !

I am glad to see him go as he has caused us numerous damage over the years but from an neutral overall perspective, I really admire Joe, taught he was a fantastic hurler, who always conducted himself well, both on and off the field. One of my favourite ever player outside of wexford. Enjoy the well deserved break joe.

What a player. Immense skill....he could do anything. Sad day for hurling and the GAA in general but none more so than Galway Hurling....how do you replace him? Well you can't. All the best to Joe. I assume he will continue club hurling?

One of the all-time greats, without a doubt. Hard to believe he was awarded just five All-Stars. Many lesser players have got more. His superb winning point in 2017 against Tipp was probably the most significant of the many memorable scores he produced.

Some of the goals and sidelines he scored were outrageous. Most exciting hurler I have ever seen.

When I think of joe canning the thing I remember apart from his obvious skills was a day in Wexford Park after Galway had been beaten by Wexford in the league quarter final and kids swarming around him looking for his autograph. Each and everyone got to meet their hero and got their photo taken with the great man. It's fitting he bows out as the top championship scorer of all time. A supreme hurler and true sportsman who thankfully got his hand on Liam McCarthy in '17

Name the 'many lesser players' that have been awarded 6 hurling All-Stars and more?

I was so delighted to see him win an AI medal in 2017. When KK were at their peak he was a sign of hope for the rest of us, leaving cats lying on the ground in his wake while scoring brilliant goals.
Good luck Joe!

I'm sorry, I must have missed this. Could you tell me, when did he leave cats lying on the ground in his wake while scoring brilliant goals?

Ya, wasn't a bad hurler either though was he or couldn't you bring yourself to pay a bit of a tribute instead of looking for explanations from others that have you sour oul sow.

In the 2012 final drawn game. He left at least 3 in his wake and a couple of them were on the ground behind him as the ball hit the net.

No, on the contrary. Why can't people pay tribute to Joe Canning, without denigrating others?

I think Joe was a wonderful hurler, one of the greatest of all time.

Sour oul sow? That's rich coming from you.
