Tyrone Vs Monaghan Final

Replying To monaghanmad:  "The great thing is that monaghan can play it either way, we have proven v armagh we can hit big scores when playing an open expansive game and proven against fermanagh and Tyrone in league we can compete when its tight and defensive. Both teams literally have 2 game plans and can play it as they see it.

I was hoping for Tyrone as their spread if scorers in the half forward line isn't as good as Tyrone ans armagh proved that we struggle to contain a fluent and scoring half forward line. I think that Tyrone play identical to monaghan at the moment and prefer that traditional running patient game and monaghan play it perfectly aswell.

It will be a game of chess and really could come down to beggan or Morgan hitting a few long range frees or mc manus hitting a few wonder scores. Both half back lines are weak and sludden and harte just like mc anespie and o connell aren't man markers hence why I rathered play Tyrone."
How long ago did yous play Fermanagh in the league? As for final, Tyrone to shade it, lot of players coming into form. Sludden at least getting his chance to show how good a player he is, he wasn't getting game time for two years now. Harte back playing well as is Mattie Donnelly. Add in Mc Kenna, Mc Shane, and a host of good forwards I think it's Tyrones to lose. Good luck anyhow.

Jack McCarron doesn't get the recognition he should, he is equally as impressive as a Clifford or O Callaghan on the ball, involved in the 4 goals against Armagh, fantastic player to watch

Think that is a fair enough summary and reflects a lot of the pundits opinions since the weekend. Tyrone have a serious depth to their squad now esp in the forwards. In a lot of ways the build up will suit monaghan as last few occasions we met in proper knockout 13 15 and 18 people were talking us up and the performances were flat everytime. Not many were tipping monaghan to get to an ulster final this year as team is in transition with a lot of new faces so I'd agree it's tyrones to lose and we can play without pressure or expectation which should make for a great final.

Of the four finals Tyrone V Monaghan and Mayo v Galway too tight to call with any confidence. Whereas my understanding of hot favourites would be Kerry v Cork and Dublin v Kildare. Tyrone have played some good football in each championship game and the improvement is there to see. Monaghan have also played very well against Galway, Fermanagh and Armagh while also giving their opponents chances to get back in the game. It really does seem set up for an high scoring game because neither defence looks secure at times and the quality in attack for both teams is impressive. Tyrone by two points.

I fancy tyrone here. Margins are so small that it could go to extra time.
Tyrone have an excellent record in ulster finals. They also have a very strong record v tyrone. That is what is calling it for me.

In all honesty I think the re-emergence of Sludden, Mattie Donnelly and possibly McShane tilts this fixture in Tyrone's favour. Monaghan do not have the defensive setup to deal with all these threats at once. Croke Park will add to that advantage.
I said a few weeks back that Tyrone's big loss to Kerry was nothing more than a clever diversion and that looks more and more correct as they ramp up their season. They would most likely beat Kerry on current form.

Yeah agreed esp on mcshane who is a fantastic player. Monaghan could get defensive players back in to counteract this but then we are back to the days of malachy kicking 13 or 14 pts against tyrone in croke Park which won't be enough anyway so as well off having a cut.

I think you're right Ed, all of Tyrones ducks seem to be falling nicely into place , sometimes the stars just align for a team like it did for us in 2014 and something special happens, I tipped Tyrone to win Ulster a few months back over on the Kerry forum while others were going for Donegal, I just thought that Tyrone have the best forwards in Ulster at the moment and its going to take a serious defense to quiten them.

Tyrone were trying out a more attacking setup against us in the league and playing man on man at the back and it didn't suit them and they won't do that again I'd say. And that's why I think they'll win Ulster.

If Tyrone and Kerry should meet in the semifinal I reckon the extra height Mcshane Donnelly and Makenna brings could scupper our small defenders.but that's for another day.

Best of luck to both teams in the final.

That give me a good laugh.. a Tyrone supporter talking about another county's players buying frees.. anyone for a hair ruffle!!! and wasn't it a rugby tackle on McManus that brought in the black cars to stop cynical fouling,, fair is fair!!

Think there is too much emphasis being placed on mcshane. He has played 30 minutes of championship football in 18 months. Its too much to expect him to make a massive difference against a well organised and battle hardened monghan side. I think dooher and Co have protected him a bit too much. He should have been brought on around the 45-50 Mark against Donegal to give him a proper run out.

jesus will you get over yourself... Monaghan are at it for years as well. especially mcmanus. All teams win frees, why dont you just join west brit tv there instead of generalising.

The black card was already coming in before that Cavanagh tackle.

A comma could have been added for clarity, but anyone with a bit of cop on could see what he meant pretty quickly. Seems like you're just being overly pedantic.

I think it was your near west Brit neighbour Joe Brolly who had the biggest issue with Tyrone. Anyway will we all 'do a Boris' and draw a line under these historical issues? It will be a long 2 weeks on here otherwise.

What are you doing stating facts. Don't you know that monaghan men and some circles in the gaa love to belive that one man and one incident was directly responsible for bringing in the black card.

I backed Monaghan at the start of the championship to win Ulster and I've said it here numerous times.
They'll steamroll Tyrone in the final if they can keep it tight at the back but that is a big if.
If Tyrone turn on the heat up in the second half and start eating into a lead I'd wonder if they have what it takes upstairs to see it out.
I'm really looking forward to it. May the best team win.
