Again, another superb game between Cork and Kerry at this level last night, Meath put it up to Dublin and a couple of other tight affairs around the country, including Mayo v Galway. BaldyBadger (Cork) - Posts: 311 - 16/07/2021 07:16:19 2360293 Link 4 |
I completely agree. It's generally a fantastic championship and as you said, the more free nature of the games tends to lead to more enjoyable football. Although in saying that, the quality of Galway vs Mayo on Tuesday was surprisingly poor. Both teams were set up to stifle each other and we ended up with a low-scoring tight game. The competition does seem to be getting a bit more tactical, but I can't ever see it being as structured as senior, as management will generally only have the players for a short period and there's big turnover in the group every year. This is obviously a big positive. I didn't see Cork vs Kerry last night, but it sounds like a cracker. Will have to watch it back. The Cork footballers are flying it at underage over the past few years, with the hurlers also picking up a long overdue U20 All-Ireland last weekend. Kildare beating Wexford was great. Pity they could not follow up and beat Offaly too Breezy (Limerick) - Posts: 1236 - 16/07/2021 10:43:26 2360326 Link 2 |
Meath were very unlucky last night, Dublin were woefully wasteful and with know great flow or momentum for a team that bar a few got to an All Final last year, we will want to improve a bit if they've hoes of competing for this title, but i really like a few in our team and have high hope for some of them, Mark Lavin is a lovely footballer. Yes, It was a very good game. Cork are competing now at underage in both codes which is a start. I can see another Aidan Walsh situation with young Jack Cahalane developing. He and Corbett were excellent last night. Whilst Galway v Mayo did not hit the heights it normally would at this level, it still had plenty of drama. I still think Dublin will take some stopping this year. Kerry were stacked with All Ireland winners from minor 3 years ago, so I'm surprised we took them. Congratulations on Corks win last night baldy badger, ye were the better team nó doubt, ye looked the hungrier team as well. Dispite all the mistakes and rustiness from both teams I found it to be a good game to watch (end to end and good off the cuff football from both teams) yer lad Corbet will be a star for the seniors in the future and ye have plenty to build on. Anyway best of luck for the rest of the competition and I hope ye go on to win it out. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 16/07/2021 11:14:31 2360341 Link 0 |
That's one of the many problems in relation to the development of so called weaker counties in hurling. They will produce a performance, spring a shock and then lose the next game. Remember Westmeath beating Kilkenny in the U20 a couple of years back and Laois beating Dublin in the senior qualifiers two years ago? I fear the same might happen to Dublin tomorrow evening. The one consolation for Dublin is that they have yet to play real knockout hurling. Fingers crossed for them tomorrow night.

I saw a good bit of the Cork Kerry game y/day evening and it was terrific stuff from both sides. Cork were definitely worthy winners on the balance of play and have several young prospects who look ready to go into the seniors. Based on last night's performance which didn't remotely resemble the cagey game between Mayo and Galway Cork won't be easily stopped. Great game to watch.Cork deserving winners. The sending off nearly did for Cork but they came strong at the end to score the winning point.

Cork thoroughly deserved the win. 6pts ahead at 2nd water break and Kerry were thrown a lifeline by a dodgy penalty and 2nd yellow for Cork corner back. Some good lads on the Rebels team. ponga (Mayo) - Posts: 650 - 16/07/2021 14:23:29 2360420 Link 1 |
Thought the ref was very harsh on Cork at times during the game Meath10 (Meath) - Posts: 183 - 16/07/2021 14:34:21 2360425 Link 3 |

Great game. Cork have a big strong team and will take some stopping. Ref was incredibly harsh on them. Curlew66 (Roscommon) - Posts: 507 - 16/07/2021 15:54:16 2360446 Link 1 |
Yes a fine game. Frustrating for me but very entertaining and hearty congratulations to Cork. That Cork team only lost to that Kerry minor team by a point in 18.Well done.

The subs ye brought on were all decent so an injury or two shouldn't be a problem. I thought the penalty was fair too and at least ye had fully functioning umpires for the referee to consult which is more than can be said for Mayo/Galway game. One or two other decisions did seem to go Kerry's way tightening the margin, but the right team still won so fair enough.

I don't think we can claim we were unlucky when we shot ourselves in the foot, and I don't mean the players. Flynn and the rest of the management team quitting two weeks before the game was very disappointing, I think they should have let Flynn pick the handful of under 20s lads who played for the seniors. They need to experience winning and I think they could definitely have beaten that Dublin team and had a decent All Ireland run. It's very frustrating.

Ya completely agree but doesn't take much figuring why they done it with the rules they brought in. It certainly was nothing to do with the fatigue reasoning they tried to put out.

I thought Cork were superb last night and showed great character to come back on more than one occasion. I completely agree with the general consensus about the ref which made Cork getting that superb final point all the sweeter. I have watched all Donegal's games in Ulster and a few Leinster games too granted just highlights of both Dublin's wins neither seemed convincing. I am a betting man and would be very very sweet on this Cork team winning the AI after Munster even if in the dark about the Connaught teams and Dublin to a degree. panamasam (Australia) - Posts: 2782 - 16/07/2021 22:57:37 2360536 Link 0 |
