I think its Dunboynes to lose , They have beaten all comers this year . . they will have more power , more mobile . . Strength on every line . . We all know the quality they have , Lowndes , Lenihan , Jones , MCEntee , McCoy , Lavin . . More than enough to account for the Tones , Not saying its not impossible but Tones will need everything to go for them and Dunboyne to have a stinker . . First thing to say is , heartfelt commiserations to the Ferguson Family on the passing of Snitchy. His passing will be a huge loss for The family. In addition The GAA have lost a true Gentleman who embodied so many of the original ideals of who that organisation seeks to be . Others will post , write and speak better about this mans contribution , but i only want to mention one thing, which is the concept of being true to your own County. Snitchy & his family understood what that meant. He was a loyal & proud Dub, but once the family left the capital he reared his sons and daughters to be proud meath folk. There is a lesson to all those who give out about "dubs" or any other " blow ins"....its not about being a Dub...its about understanding that within the GAA is the idea that each generation grow up loyal to their Parish/Their County....not the county of our fathers or mothers...this is something we need to foster, and where better to seek an example than with the Ferguson Family of Kells ."]That is a really super post. I know friends, players and coaches in Meath who hate the sight of a club player in Meath turning up for club training in a Dublin top or jersey. I never said scare them off - I suggested put them off. I also said never Abuse... Stop exaggerating my post. And it has definitely happened in the past. And to say a kid living in say Carnaross or Enfield will still play for underage for their club in Dublin is rubbish. I visited a friend of mine during the Summer and actually overheard an underage coach comment on it first hand. So stop burying your hand in the sand. Whilst I wouldn't disagree that dunboyne should win this you just never know and Tones weren;t suposed to beat Kells or ratoath and did so impressively. Dunboyne have played well all year and should win and have class all over the field. Cathal Finn is a man transformed this year and another display of top quality should see him back into the Meath panel if he wanted to come back. It was not intended to offend. I was simply making a point which I know to be true. I recall a Meath poster commenting on something similar over a year ago. And the phase a generation of kids was used then also.... Meath have definitely missed out on a huge amount of Dublin kids living in the county, that chose not to take up or not continue with the game once they moved to Meath, for one reason or another, and my point was one of the reasons. I will not go into detail on here or name & shame but some examples I know of, joking or otherwise, if he wears that top again we will put him in goals and use him for shooting practice... or I hate to see them wearing that top when they are playing for a meath club, can you make sure he wears club colours please... And kids saying, I cant wear my Dublin top anymore because..... Look, we can agree to disagree but it has improved massively especially in the border town clubs where there are so many Dubs living, and who are now actually coaching underage teams. But that was not always the case. You use very strong words like scared, abuse, hostility.... I never used them. So who is exaggerating.??? Anyway, I will leave it at that....! Clearly having a bit of craic . So theres no jokes allowed now in GAA clubs. Up and down the county for years now the majority of people moving into our towns and villages and GAA clubs are accepted and made to feel part of it straight away regardless of where they are from. You will always have the 1 or 2 idiots who are the exception to the rule but for the most part all comers are welcomed in . There will of course be some friendly rivalry slagging and craic like your example of joking they will put him in goal for shooting practice between people from different counties and particularly Dublin folk because of the rivalry but I have rarely heard of an example where it went too far. We can leave it here if you like but there was no way I was gonna standby and let you imply that meath GAA people in the clubs up and down the county have anything at all to do with dublin kids not getting involved with their local clubs when barring 1 or 2 isolated examples you have there is zero evidence that this is true. Thomas O'Reilly super 1st half, both mcentees struggled to make an impact, Donal lenihan only player to really show up for Dunboyne. Hard not to be really happy for Cian Ward. What a player he still is.
