I'm sorry if I upset you in some way Avon but I've always been honest with my views on here haven't I? I can understand some posters having multiple accounts probably using their main 1 to be all nicey nicey and another to say what they really think, well thankfully I just say what I think.

NOt upset at all. Just amused by the inconsistencies in your posts.

I've often suspected you of being an. agent provocateur in these rooms. Are you employed by HS just to keep the pot boiling in here???

I'm sure it's very commendable that you say what you think. The problem is there seems to be inconsistencies in your thinking.

Your wildly diverging attitude towards CiarraiMick for starters. Last September he was a spoofer and not a Kerryman because his views didn't align with yours. The other day you were virtually high fiving him in here for his "hyperuppercut" as you called it. Do when you agree with his views his credentials are unquestioned but when the don't conform to the party line he is a spoofer, as you called him.

It's pretty simple really. Another account replying to a comment that wasn't addressed to them but was to you. Does that seem a bit odd to you?

Tommy you're gone fierce quiet all of a sudden.
Are you sure Mick is from Kerry now or is he still an imposter? You were at the crawling thing again there not so long ago and before that he wasn't from Kerry at all.

Replying To avonali:  "Lots of talk about how boring robotic etc modern football has become. Looking back on a few All_Irelands from the70s I was struck with just how awful the game was. The folllowing typified GAA football in the past.

Aimless hoofing of the ball into the other half.

The awful handpass/throw- what an abomination that was

Tackles that would get you red carded on a rubgy pitch. Have a look at Brian Mullins' tackle on Ger Power in second half of '77 fina!

The terrible point taking.

Poor officiating

Are we looking back on the past with rose tinted glasses?? What do people consider the Golden Age of GAA football? What was the greatest final??? Any chance we could keep this thread free of the usual Dublin V Kerry BS???"
Absolutely agree. It is not just fitness levels and tactical awareness that has improved. The standard of some basic skills such as kicking a point from 30 yards was terrible in the 1970s. More often than not, a forward would just hoof the ball up in the air and it would drop well short of the goal. And I am talking about simple straightforward chances that any decent footballer nowadays would knock over the bar with no fuss. A perfect example is the 1971 all-Ireland final between Galway and Offaly which I watched on GAAGO last year. The first-half in particular was atrocious stuff with lots of shockingly bad misses by both sides, aimless clearances kicked out over the sideline and almost no attempts to actually pass the ball to a team-mate.

I agree that scorable frees should not be taken from the hand. Fair enough if you just want to hit a quick foot pass, but if you're going for a point, put it down and hit it off the ground. It's a great skill and great drama to watch, and really sorts out the heroes from the bottlers. And everyone taking a scoring free out of the hands always straightens the angle too - nobody kicking for a score out of their hands ever hits it from the location of the foul.

And as for soloing - I tell my kids in our back yard "no more than 4 steps without a solo or a bounce", but I feel like I'm lying to them. Sure we all know you nowadays could run most of a half with the ball under your arm, and, provided you didn't flip the bird to the ref while doing so, you'd probably get away with it. Soloing well is a great skill. Please enforce it.

And please ban time-wasting substitutions in the last 5 minutes, unless in case of an obvious injury. And if a man is down injured and isn't up inside a minute, stretcher him off right away. Too many of them are just messers who are slowing the game down and protecting a lead by exaggerating an injury - or m by just outright faking.

Ban all scores with the hand or fist.

When in the opposition's half, ban all passes back into your own half. That'll force them to play people up front.

Any team that does more than 2 hand or fist passes in a row concedes a free.

Openly and honestly ban all tackling so that there is no more confusion about it. At the moment, a sort of tackle is in the rules, but nobody knows for sure what it means in practice. In practice, unless you're smaller than your opponent, you're not allowed to tackle. And if you nail somebody with a fair shoulder, that'll be a yellow.

All points from outside 30 metres are worth 2 points.

No harm in dreaming. Pigs flying overhead.
