It's a shambles Shambles but nobody can take last year's Ulster title from ye.

Cmon now Royal, I know you don't like Tyrone but in all fairness Cavan haven't a snowballs chance in hell against Tyrone, that disaster of a performance in Killarney will only spur them on, Tyrone are a top 5 side, Cavan are div 4.

Yeah four of the eight teams in Div 1 are from Ulster….only one from Leinster …..says it all about standard in Leinster

Supporters like you are what we don't need. Have a bit humility instead of refusing to accept that we well beaten by Cavan.

Both Tyrone and Cavan with horrendous performances heading into the championship. Both will improve for championship though.

Wicklow won this game without their captain, Dean Healy. Even with him factoring in as playing Cavan were 1/10 favourites. This result means so much to us. We have some really fine young footballers coming through. Remember the names, Eoin Darcy and Matthew Ging, The Tinahely Terrors

That Ulster win was a fluke, it's as plain as the nose on your face Rolo, Donegal were leggy from too heavy a training schedule to get ready for a semi final with Dublin, it was fluke of a win and that's all it was, it will be a long time till they win one again I'll tell you that much, Tyrone will be like a wounded animal the next day, if Cavan are within 10 points of them I'll be surprised.

replying to tirchonaill 1 you should watch the ulster final again as your are deluded Donegal scored 3 pints when 'cavan had their 15 players on the field and Barrry Cassidy was at least worth 5 to 6 points to you in last years final. I am not saying Cavan are a better team than Donegal but in last years Ulster final we thrashed ye the score board did not reflect how bad ye were no fluke. It was the most complete performance from Cavan in 50 years much better than 97.

Exactly of all their performances in last year's championship, cavans win over Donegal was the most merited.... Bonner and rochford took their eye off the ball and treated cavan with no respect and we got our arses handed to us by the breffni boys

Poor attitude there TC, if Donegal were leggy they only had themselves to blame. Surely it was good for the game to see an unconsidered team like Cavan win at provincial level. It gave a bit of hope to similar counties around the country which was good.
That's twice now Donegal were beaten by Div3 teams in an Ulster Final. Leggy lessons to be learned.

Cavans winning of ulster last year and the way they did it was unique playing on weekly basis coming from behind in games built momentum and belief and they looked like a side liberated in the final playing without fear which resulted in a massive performance. The league looks like a massive come down from those highs which in a way is understandable as won't be another ulster won like it in a long time. In a funny way it makes them more dangerous to tyrone now as they will be written off now ahead of ulster championship and there will be a reaction to that. Wouldn't be suprised if they beat tyrone and lose to donegal or Down in semi. Do think through ulster football not as strong as once was through and we may see other suprise winners this year maybe armagh or Down perhaps.

defence was a shambles. We are never more than a point or two better than ANY team in the country at the best of times. Last year was an example.. We could have lost all 4 games in Ulster .. ironically the final was the game we deserved to win the most . That was down to pure passion , determination and fighting spirit.
We are never in control of a game and cant play controlled foirball. We take wrong options all the time in front of goal, we miss scoreable frees, We seem to start every gane (apart from ulster final( in first gear and dont move up the gears until near the end of the gane.
Are we the first team to go down from Div 1 to Div 4 in 3 consectutive years or did Westmeath also achieve that dubious honour ?

Of course it was a fluke, compare it to monaghans win in 2013 when we broke through, we had more celebrations, more focus and was a bigger surprise, monaghan went on to get to 3 ulster finals in a row, beating Tyrone, donegal etc on a yearly basis and going from div 3 to div 1 and consolidating our position there, just shows how much of a fluke last years win for cavan really was, if they were a team building and has built to win an ulster and wanted to progress they would not be in div 4.

They got a serious amount of luck in winning ulster last year and you need that and fair play but in reality it doesn't really take away from the fact that cavan football won't gain anything from winning the ulster as it was a fluke.

That was Cavans second final in sucession. Lose one to win one.

Bit harsh there comrade, I think it remains to be seen whether it was a fluke or not.
You can't compare our three ulster finals in a row, starting in 2013 and not allow Cavan the same opportunity to do the same, they may well do.

Last year we had them beat at half time and then downed tools on the order of our management, an act of managerial ineptitude well discussed in our neck of the woods. However even until the second water break Cavan continued to shadow box with us, until they realised we were there for the taking.
Against Down they were helped in their comeback by a goal that should never had been allowed. In the final they won it fair and square. There is no comeback after a final. Donegal didn't turn up.

Recent league form is the worst in the country for some reason, I find it hard to believe their emphasis is entirely on the championship given the changes coming.
I'm open to correction here but the new format, going forward, allows a Div 4 team to still play in the AI championship if they make a provincial final.
The new emphasis on attacking football in Ulster will suit them (and Derry) a lot, the jury is out, but we'll find out soon enough

The truth is Monaghan absolutely blew the game against Cavan last October, they had it all too easy in the first half and thought the game was done and dusted.

If you can only score 2 points in 35 mins v one of the worst teams in the country, then I don't think the words "fluke" and "luck" should be used.

They opened the door for Cavan and gave them the belief and momentum, two huge ingredients in knock out football.

I would expect Cavan to be knocked out in the quarter final this year and Monaghan have no real excuses not to reach the Ulster final at least.

Man of the Match yesterday was Kevin Quinn, nephew of all All Star, Club All Ireland winner and legend, Kevin O'Brien. Maybe the title of this thread should be Wicklow retain Division Three Status not 'Cavan'.

It's a very good result for Wicklow and they can build on their status for next year hopefully, better than our attempt on division 3 last year!

You're right of course, we'll done yesterday. I know you had a couple of good minor teams recently, so the stock is there. I remember O Brien well, didn't he sicken that great meath team in 91. Played regularly for the country too.
