Put aside all the stuff about covid, forfeited home games etc. - how does it make sense for the team who finished 3rd to be the away team, and 4th place be awarded with a home game? Surely one of the bonuses of finishing 3rd is to get a home tie.

Sure we will play with 13 men too and leave mc manus and beggan at home to even it out. As paddy tally said he got 7 phone calls from managers looking to play challenge games during covid so we have done our punishment unlike many many others. Not really afraid of Galway in 2 weeks time and being at home we should beat them. Joyce just seems to be using this as an excuse or for motivation for his players. Although monaghan never got the beatings thet have got in the last 2 years.

Galway finished with 2 points and a -20 points difference. Monaghan finished with 2 points and a -4 points difference. And you're looking for a bonus?

Newbridge or Nowhere! Newbridge or Nobudge! Galway will play it in Clones, no bother!

To answer your question, your first sentence is incorrect as they had less home games i.e one than Galway who had two home games, irrespective of the fact that their one "home" game was moved to Brewster Pk. as a result of covid breach. Surely you can understand??? Like one is less than two?

Waterford v Antrim to be played at 12:15 in Waterford? 12:15???? I presume that Waterford will reciprocate the goodwill gesture shown by Antrim at the end of October and move the match somewhere that won't mean the Antrim players having to get up at silly O'Clock to sit on a bus for a good few hours to be then expected to play a match at midday.

Belfast to Dungarvan is some journey and have to be on the pitch at noon. They might find a suitable venue in North Waterford to shorten the journey a little. Hoping Kerry might opt for Tralee instead of bringing Tyrone further South to Killarney. Any goodwill gesture is most welcome in these extraordinary times.

That doesn't make sense. If you have had two home games, you have had that benefit to help you garner more points and get 3rd. Why would a team that had 1 home game be further punished by playing away a 3rd time? It's not ideal, but in a 4 team group with a playoff, due to Covid, it's the fairest option I feel.

It's no fault of Carlow or Waterford but since they both only played two matches, wouldn't it make sense for the teams that played more to get home advantage? If this wasn't going to be the thinking, then at least give home advantage to the teams that won their group - which is at least fair in the case of Louth and Carlow as it stands, where as Antrim have a 100 % record and have to go to Dungarvan early on Sunday morning. Across all divisions the GAA have made a mess of this, when it could be many counties seasons on the line.

I recall when the league format was 7 games. On one occasion i do recall us having 4 out of the 7 games away from home plus a playoff if my mind serves me correctly was away from home and not neutral. Can't recall the year but was a while back and admittedly under an older system. The issue of counties breaking covid protocols does merit debate and the sanctions have been light touch. A more effective mechanism would have been to ban the players caught (banning the manager has no impact) but old news now. Look we will go anywhere and of more concern is the injury to one of our top three ballers. He has barely kicked a ball in three years and is at peak age. Outside of Dublin no county could absorb that loss (losing a marquee player for such an extended period). Monaghan would be tough whereever we play them as they have been a really good side for 7/8 yrs now and will be slight favourites as much on form as home venue.

It's crazy the more I think on it. A non stop journey down from Belfast is around the 4 hour mark. As you say, you'd want to be on the pitch by midday at the very latest but also you don't want to be stepping straight off a bus on to a pitch so for a journey like that you'd be wanting to be at the ground an hour ahead at least - so by 11 am. Which means you need to be on the road from Belfast by 7 if you aren't intending stopping. Which also means that for the lads who don't live in the City they will have up to a further hours travel so would need to be on the road from 6 and out of their beds up to an hour before that. If the team intend to stop between Belfast and Dungarvan then it will be an earlier start again.

Last year Waterford weren't for travelling up to Portglenone, asked for a location closer to Dublin and initially Antrim offered to switch it to Belfast (about 40-50 mins closer) to maintain home advantage. After Waterford announced they wouldn't fulfil the fixture (and take whatever fines etc) Antrim offered to play the match in Dundalk which Waterford accepted. That was for a match with a 2pm throw-in.

Just seeing that Hotels open from tomorrow in the Republic for overnight guests which changes the landscape a bit. Cuts out the one day journey malarkey as presume the team would be heading down on Saturday. Suppose that would explain why it was set for an early time as well as will let the team get back up the road before bedtime.

That's good to hear. Maybe travel down on Saturday and enjoy the Waterford greenway. Antrim going well with 100% win record so far.

And now they're benefitting from it by those forfeited home venues not counting towards their number of home games? Who the hell makes these rules up? Sounds like they came up with them in the snug of a smoky bar over a few pints.

I'm afraid your wrong. Their home game that was played at a neutral venue was still counted as a home game.

But Monaghan still had only one home game compared with Galways two.
