Does it make a difference who it was?

Bringing up injury time from 2018 in relation to yesterday's match? That's a tangent if ever there was one. I'd understand a foggy memory from that day, but a good chunk of the injury time was from James Skehill getting treatment before being stretchered off. We also had 2 Limerick players going down with injury in injury time itself, after Whelan's goal, taking over a minute. Anyway, on the issue of yesterday, Limerick's tackling technique is poor. They use a high hand and hurl to stop the man in possession. Stop doing that and you'll stop giving away frees. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2018 - 17/05/2021 11:51:10 2342720 Link 2 |
"Limerick looked a bit unfit, some really big men eg Aaron Gillane trundling around a bit." You forgot to mention a couple of classy points by Gillane after coming on......keep on trundling. PatOLogical (Limerick) - Posts: 1338 - 17/05/2021 11:54:09 2342721 Link 2 |
If you want to find a foul, then you can find a foul in nearly every single tackle in hurling. If you start blowing for them all, or only finding fouls where you want to see them...then no-one will watch the games anymore. Setanta11 (Louth) - Posts: 42 - 17/05/2021 11:57:46 2342724 Link 2 |
" not a word about Joe Canning who spent at least 7 or 8 minutes lying in serious pain on the ground after being hit in the back by Limerick's 'biggest' player." You are muddying the waters with your comment above....Joe Canning's serious injury came from a collision with his teammate .on of the Coomneys, I think" . Sorry to confuse you with the facts, since your mind is already made up. PatOLogical (Limerick) - Posts: 1338 - 17/05/2021 12:25:13 2342736 Link 0 |
Well said. I second that.

I agree with Jackie, seeing stats like over 45 frees in Waterford Westmeath is alarming but I've no sympathy for Limerick, tactical fouling is a clear aspect of their gameplan going back to the 2020 championship, maybe from the Kinnerick playbook, Kiely should be more concerned with his team's discipline like Byrnes braindead punch at full time.

The commentators, both Galway men saw it, and commented that Tuohy was very lucky to get away with it. But neither the commentators nor the ref saw Kyle Hayes kicking a Galway player on the ground. There were lots of incidences on both sides. Galway played the better hurling. I'll put it like this, the Galway manager was far more gracious in defeat in last year's AISF than Limerick's manager yesterday.

There's no confusion. I was referring to his first injury which came from GH.

I think Kiely played it a lot better than his team, yesterday. It has got everyone talking about the "stop/start" nature of the games since the start of the league - he doesn't know who changed the "rules" but Limerick were not consulted.....and if this continues to be the way the games are refereed, we wont have anyone to watch them. Its not what "hurling men" want !!! And to add in also (possible the biggest threat to Limerick 2021) Galway are diving around the place, trying to fool the referee and are not playing fair, Galway are probably not even men for doing that . lowandhard (Galway) - Posts: 33 - 17/05/2021 12:54:36 2342755 Link 2 |
Lads you are making more of things on this thread than should be made. It's the 2nd game of the league. Players are rusty and not fully match fit. So tackling would be sloppier. Refs always seem more whistle happy in the early stages of the league than later in the summer and this has been so since I started going to games in the 90s. As regards the 2 teams it's hard to make any judgements after so little hurling for 5 months. Galway have been 1 of the top 2 or 3 teams for the last 5 or 6 years and Limerick the same the last 3 or 4 years. Both are physically large probably the biggest 2 intercounty hurling teams size wise. Both will be among the favourites for Liam this year and rightly so. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 11481 - 17/05/2021 13:15:07 2342761 Link 4 |
Jesus ye want less frees but ye want a Galway players sent off, who would be a ref? What do ye want ? No frees at all ? I'm sorry but Galway are allowed to win too! Just accept it congratulate and move on. Like Shane o Neill did last year! And please for the good of the game go out and hurl and leave all that hand passing for other sports.

He was gracious alright but they were well beaten everywhere apart from the scoreboard...

Indeed we can all see what we want to. Here's 2 you missed from Limerick: 1. Kyle Hayes kicking an opponent = Red Card 2. Diarmuid Byrnes punch at the final whistle = Red Card. Ailteoir (Galway) - Posts: 859 - 17/05/2021 14:00:28 2342786 Link 2 |

As were Linerick yesterday, except the scoreboard was a fairer reflection.

Ailteoir, we can all read what we want to read as well (!), my first example was in reference to the Byrnes' incident (Byrnes deserved a red card).....but sticking to the rules, the Galway lad also deserved a red for interfering with the helmet of an opponent (off-the ball).

Well not always true. Hegarty got a good smack on the head yesterday and no free. Kiely had to say something.. You can see where the game is heading..of it goes non contact id prefer Hockey...Its a decent game ,probably better than hurling if the physical contact is gone

Oh the naivety....the only reason Kiely is saying anything is he sees Galway as a major challenger to their crown. He didn't care less about losing yesterday but he wants to heap the pressure on James Owens for the next game. StoreysTash (Wexford) - Posts: 1726 - 17/05/2021 15:37:16 2342820 Link 4 |
