NFL Division 3 2021

Don't see any thread on this, so posting one up. What do we see happening here? I think the North and South is very lopsided. I know they tried to do it geographically for travel reasons, but North has potentially the 4 strongest teams, and South the weakest based on how they finished in the League last year. Saying that, I do expect that Cavan and Tipp come out on top. As recent provincial champions, it is quite the quirk that they are in Division 3, but both have lots of experience of playing at a higher Divisions than this. Should be some tight games all the same, and who knows where each team are until they take the pitch the first time this year.

I take Cavan and Derry as semi finalists in the North, Tipperary and maybe Limerick in the South with Cavan and Tipp to go up.

If I was neutral, I would agree with you. From a Wicklow perspective, we are happy that we don't have to play Cavan and Fermanagh in particular who were Division 2 teams last year's league campaign. We have a young team/squad and it is imperative that we stay in Division 3 to allow us to play better quality teams on a regular basis. It does appear that the North section of Division 3 is tougher than the South section even though Tipperary who are Munster champions are in our section. I would expect that Cavan in the North and Tipperary in the South are the two stand out teams due to their achievements in 2020. I would hope that Wicklow can compete and aim for second place behind Tipperary.

Interesting and glad to see the post, I love our own little divisional chats and predications which I will post when the league starts...interesting groupings alright, back in late 80's Offaly were deemed Division 3 North for a few years...we must have slipped a bit on the map:)

Offaly have two home games v Tipperary and Limerick, we travel to the garden county. No easy games, Tipperary and Cavan will be favoured to advance. Would love to see Offaly push for promotion this year.
Good luck to the other 3 teams and supporters.

It's the curse of the Midlands. Still, one advantage is that you get to play a whole new set of opponents to last season.

Whatever happens Wicklow must beat Offaly in Aughrim. That's our All Ireland.

I know its terrible to putting pressure on a team but I do think that our game v Offaly is of huge significance. It reminds me of our minor team v Offaly 2 or 3 years ago. Covid has put predicting games up a notch because there is no form or certainty with teams. Going on Wicklow s form from last year, I am slightly confident going into this game. As I have said in a previous post I don't know what sort of a team we will have out. Its probably the same with Offaly. If we can get a result against Offaly , we can travel to Thurles with some confidence. I don't think either group in Div 3 is a foregone conclusion. I definitely think there will be a couple of surprises in either group

Very true...when a team is stuck in a division for a few seasons with other similar calibre teams who also cannot get promoted annual re fixtures can become a bit sullen and dull..its great the games are back..I will post my predictions later in week for discussion..

Predictions for round 1 Sat/Sun 8/9th May: (without going back into last years league and championship was unusal too, so it will be gut feeling here with a little bit of thinking involved)

Limerick v Tipperary, LIT Gaelic Grounds, 5pm - Tipperary will surely carry a bounce in to the league after last year..Phillip Austin retired (a really good player over the years) Limerick well capable of putting in exceptional performances too but I think Tipp will win here: Tipp by 5 (2-16 - 0-1-14)

Waterford v Carlow, Fraher Field, 7pm - hard to know on this one, but I think Carlow might be just a bit better, Waterford will certainly not be found wanting either - Carlow by 4 (1-14 to 1-10)

Wicklow v Offaly, Aughrim, 2pm - this is a big game for these two teams...Offaly steady if not spectacular last year...Wicklow more than capable of pushing for promotion, but like Offaly seem to blow up then in a game they are expected to win...Aughrim will be tough for Offaly, I am biased and will go of Offaly by 2 (Offaly 0-13 Wicklow 0-11)

I know putting scores in is really impossible to predict but just adds a bit of thought to the actual predicted result..

Think both games in the southern section are completely wide open. It will depend on whatever injuries are sustained in challenge games this weekend. Hard to predict this far out

Limerick v Wicklow. Limerick by 3
Offaly v Tipperary. Tipperary by 6

In the North:

Fermanagh v Cavan. Cavan by 5
Longford v Derry. Derry by 3

Ah, don't know where I saw that fixture list then so. In that case I'll go Offaly by 2, Tipperary by 4.

No problem. Offaly will do well to win in Aughrim.

Hard to argue with your logic Ollie. John Maughan's Offaly will hopefully challenge for promotion in 2021, we need that badly. How's Micky Harte doing with Louth?

strange to predict Tipp to loose to LImerick, but of course its very possible in this Division, it will be interesting to see how Tipp respond with the Munster title in their back pockets etc...
