Wasn't a massive Gay Byrne fan but some guests were mad or just insightful and laughed at.

Not Gaa related. But I remember a man on the LLS one Friday night, early 90's and he advocating the mobile phone market, he made a statement that everyone would own a mobile phone, he said people would have two or three phones, one personal and one for work.. he was laughed at by everyone there, including Gay.

The mad though that someone would even possess a 'mobile telephone'...

I often think of that man and how he must have felt that night, and how much he must have laughted at their expense after,,,, I take it he is a rich man now...

I remember another man who was considered equally mad for suggesting that he was going to start bottling and selling water.
Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best.

Plenty more examples thoroughly history. I think the Ballygowan man was on the show and laughed off too was he not? Who the hell would pay for a bottle of water?

More recently Bitcoin was laughed at and anyone who bought it were described as burning money. Well they are laughing now. It has made multi millionaires of people.

Back in 2012, some dude prophesied that the World would end on a certain Sunday in late May. Limerick and Tipp were playing the same day and I hoped we could beat them and have a few pints after - just to kick off the celebrations- and that whoever Joker was ending the whole damn show would wait till about 20.00 hours to get the business done

A well known business man in North Galway was laughed off the Late Late over 30 yrs ago with his feeding equipment for livestock. Went on to become a millionaire and hugely supportive of community and sporting initiatives as well doing great work for the likes of Pieta House.

Apparently, the bloke that invented the original telephone in the 1800s, when asked what was the point of this new device, said the he could foresee a time when every country would have a phone.

One phone per country, and people thought he was losing the run of himself lol

interesting to mention the Ballygowan story..I remember it must be 1997 or 8..we were on our way back from a weekend in Killarney and it was melting hot..stopped off in Newcastle West (the home of Ballygowan)at a filling station, and I went to the fridge..not a bottle of water in sight!!..I said to the girl behind the counter, and she said they had some on the floor covered up (which I seen) but there was some issue with its quality and they were not allowed sell it..I had to settle for a lucozade or other..It was funny, you cannot buy Ballygowan in the town it hailed from with a pallet of it on the floor of the shop!!:)

I rarely buy bottled water, of all things going with loads of plastic bottles or all sorts its way handier fill one twice the size and bring it with you..no, I woldnt live on the clippings of tin as the saying goes..I would buy other stuff such a wrap or baguette and have it with my own water:)

I have worked in the food industry most of my life and know how much it is regulated with at least one different audit weekly. Water filling operations were given a free pass. When the concept first started I know of one well know supplier who was filling the bottles behind his house with a hose from the mains water.
