Replying To Fairplayalways:  "was looking through old stats there about the current debated about high scoring in hurling games, some think apparently this league is the start of it..not so as I thought...Kilkenny beat Wexford 3-26 to 0-05 in league in 2005 for example..loads of games 4-24 and 3-27 for example..0-31 scored in one game by one team...anyway topic of great players with a season or two and then gone off the radar...Alan O'Connor of Limerick was shooting the lights out in 2006 or so...Johnny McIntosh of Antrim, what a player...might have had a few seasons but ultimately no sucess and forgotten about..no doubt some posters wont even remember either player..."
2005 was a strange league. Kilkenny scored 3-20 in the final against Clare. There were some huge scores put up on Down and Antrim but both beat Dublin who got relegated. We only lost that years Leinster final by 3 points to Kilkenny. Galway beat Kilkenny by 5-18 to 4-18 in the AISF then lost to Cork who only beat Clare by a point in the other semifinal.

The most obvious one who I don't think has been mentioned has to be Ray Cosgrove.

Had a season most could only dream of in 02. What made it all the more remarkable was he just came out of nowhere that season and was gonr again.

He was there in 99 for the Leinster Final loss to Meath, so had been around for a few seasons

It was but as I say,the high scoring had sneaked in fairly often around 2005 onwards...I remember off the top of my head Tipp beating us Offaly more than 10 years ago it must be and scored 5-27 or something in an AI qualifier...high scores are not a recent thing...Limerick are racking up big points only totals in some games and thats what has caught peoples eye...but its nothing new really as far as I am concerned...

AFAIK he didn't play after 99 again until 02. He was there for a few more seasons but was never anywhere close to his 02 season form.

I was at the Leinster Final in 99 and remember him in action. Can't recall if he started or came in, but he was one of the few Dublin players to shine that day. Meath were better overall and deserved the win.
