Replying To StoreysTash:  "There must be more than 1 though?"
Noel Hickey 2009.

In fairness to the poster (I cannot speak his/her mind now) I think they mean a player who was on the panel that never played at all, Noel Hickey had a sterling career at full back for the few years he was there and would have been a panel player at end of his career...the like of "chap" mentioned elsewhere is how I read the question as in a fellah at tail end of the panel who never played a minutes hurling over one year or a couple of years on the panel..there must be quiet a few I would think...

OK. Like Canice Hickey, Noel's brother. He's won 2 AL medals, 2 Leinster and 1 NHL; all as a sub. But he has never played a game.

Replying To StoreysTash:  "That was exactly the reason. There was probably 4-5 Wexford lads at least who won a medal in 96 in the same category. I am not saying this from memory though as I was barely born."
The one that sticks out in my mind from the Wexford '96 panel is Liam Turley, originally from Galway and who played with St. Martin's for a couple of years.

He was on the Wexford panel throughout 1996 and got an All-Ireland medal but the first time he ever actually played for Wexford was in the GOAL exhibition match that used to take place at the time, a few days after the final.

He went on to play a few games in the likes of the Oireachtas and Walsh Cups and the South East League (a sort of "bridging" competition that was held at the time, when the National League first moved from an October start to February of the following year). But he never played a single minute in either championship or league.

Still has an All-Ireland medal though, and I'd settle for that myself!!!

yeah, thats a great example..heard of him but as you say he never played a game...I have a few medals like that myself...actual all medals I have are like that...good to have them I know..but people dont really really recognise you if you havent pucked a ball in a championship match...I still love the games however...wouldn't be a lover of the "win at all cost" mentality where players are pulled onto teams from nowhere at the last minute if they get to a semi final or final but that might be slowly changing now..current panel players put in too much now to accept that...I did see it with my own club alot when I did play...still a trace there upto to years ago or so..another argument I know...

Ger Malone of Mullinavat might have one or two without playing, open to correction.
Eoin Reid of Ballyhale played 3 games across 5 years (could have been as a sub) won 4 all Irelands.
Peter Cleere of Black & whites has 2 All Irelands played 1 match ever
Damien Fogarty brother of Conor has an AI & two Leinsters without ever pucking the ball from Castlecomer (Erins Own)
Sean Cummins has 4 AI medals as a non playing sub from the Rower.
PJ Delaney has 4 AI & Leinster medals from Fenians, he played 3 times for Kilkenny.
Aidan Cummins of Ballyhale has 3 AI medals, as a sub. Has a pocketful of club medals with the shamrocks too.

I am not trying to diminish the work these lads put in, just replying to the thread. Without these lads pushing on the starters they would not have been half as good.

PJ Delaney looked a real prospect, he was a serious Hurler.

excellent, and yes all these names now are names we heard of for sure, all were decent hurlers and as you say kep the regulars on their toes...PJ Delaney I remember him as we used to say "he's the other PJ Delaney" and I remember AIdan Cummins was a fine player too..I think Eoin Reid too got possibly league time...theres a fellah shot the lights out in the league but use to alway be a very very bit player if at all in the championship was Mark Kelly (not sure of his club)...

Nor was it my intention starting the thread.
I was just curious.
I would love to be part of an All-Ireland winning squad.

Are you thinking of Kevin Kelly of the infamous Ballyragget St Pats club? Loads have had league time as far as I can remember.
