That's poor stuff going on in this thread but I suppose with nothing happening on the field of play posters start attacking each other for entertainment!

Could not agree more- it is so childish and unbecoming. People need to discuss issues and not attack each other. Its very poor form. It reminds me of an old woman in my parish who used to have the great saying about the cat who got the cream- it went like this- the cat who gets the cream will do the biggest dirt yes.

Why don't you practice what you preach? You just had a go at another poster who started a thread about county jerseys. Get a grip.

Of course weaker counties need to organise themselves better. But to tell someone to shape up while turning a blind eye to massive funding and resources inequalities is nonsense.

I personally know parents who bought their kids a nice house in Belfast, so that they'd have a good base for studying. No crappy, noisy, student digs for them. They had private tutors. The parents checked in on them continually to check on progress. Exam success was rewarded with cars and foreign holidays.

Contrast that with many of us at school or college who had none of those mentoring advantages, financial advantages, and facilities advantages.

If, like me, you underachieved at school, of course, a lot of it was down to yourself for being a messer! No ducking that. But, whether in education or in sport, whether it's individual students or individual counties, it's unhelpful to pretend that we're all dealt the same coaching, money and incentives hand in the game, and it's delusional to pretend that such resource advantages do not affect outcomes.

We all need a kick up the backside now and then, but many of us also could do with more resources - and more money.

Let's move on from the romantic dribble that "talent will always win out". Through poverty and neglect and ignorance and lack of resources, lots of talent never even gets out of the starting gate.

Well in the GAA talent DEFINITELY doesn't always win out seeing as how if Henry Shefflin was born down the road in Laois few would have ever heard of him.

If Henry Shefflin had been born in Laois, he might have never played hurling.

If he was born in Ulan Bator he'd never even heard of hurling!

Well obviously not. You're either being snide in an attempt to sound clever or you've totally missed the point.

Actually I must correct you there, a team from Ulan Bator competed at the Asian Gaelic Games nearly 10 years ago, a club set up by two Galway men and a Mayo man.

My farming grants are flowing through the letterbox Jim, now that's what you call having your house in order :-)

Also I see you brought dubsfan28 along for the spin, you'll never change will you?

Throwing money at County Boards will not make good teams/players. There are many counties that will not win an All Ireland over the next 50 years even if they had Dublin's loaded purse. You need the numbers, organisation and good management. A bit of money helps but you need a decent amount of good players. Dublin have all 3 and many counties have neither! Look at that game across the water where they are not allowed to touch the ball with their hand- some clubs spend millions and win nothing-except good wages for playing draughts with the ball!
