Does Anyone Actually Want A 4X8 Regional Structure To Replace Counties Only Playing In Their Home Province?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Simple question
Yes or no.
No need to discuss further?
Would people be happy to have their county not compete in their actual province so that the all ireland would remain the same but all sides would be symetrical and all sides would have to play same amount to win Sam Maguire.

I'd be prepared to look at it before rejecting it.

Why?
Change the all ireland structure and give all teams an equal shot at all ireland but dont simply put provincial competitions as 4x8.

Even if the gaa made 4 groups of 8 it would prob still be lopsided unless teams were seeded. I mean Ulster still would be a minefield.

Too many duplicate accounts would render polls inaccurate.

Yes because it would be better than what we have at present but what you say here would be better again!

There's a lot of people with duplicate accounts alright. up to the moderators to do something about that.

Give us back (for a season or two to see how it would go) our old 4 divisions, yes, teams might have to be seeded on championship performance the 1st year...give a good incentive (monetarty etc,) not only to win the league in each 4 divisions, but give incentives for reaching your division final, and finishing 3rd etc. Top 2 teams go up from the lower divisions, bottom two come down etc...woulnt it be nice to see and woud be competive if the incentives were their, particulary in the lower divisons...people will come on and say we have four divisons as it is, and it doing ok..it maybe but it is not been taken seriously by some counties, especially the 1st divisison, do enough to stay up and put a weak team out in the final 2 weeks before the 1st round of the championship...not the way it should be done..

why not?
why not try it for 3 years,i hate that gaa people are so constantly opposed to trying anything different,or experimenting, with the status quo.
the gaa fell onto a hurling format gold mine a few years ago as a reaction to the football championship changing.
nothing should be sacred when we are trying to improve our games, and the product for our games.

an aversion to change has hamstrung the gaa for years.never be afraid to try and be a maverick for a few years, change can be undone with the stroke of a pen.

Yes.

I think it's worth ago. Too many people want this 'Champions League' style format but that would take a players chance to win a medal away. Only the best teams win the All Ireland but the Provincial championship is where a shock could be produced every so often like Tipp in Munster and Cavan in Ulster and those players I'm sure will cherish thier medals. So I do think a geography based provincial championship is definitely worth trialling out before any 32 team champions league style All Ireland series.
