Why Aren't The Ladies Playing An All Ireland Final In Croke Park.

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

So wicklow v fermanagh ladies are playing an all Ireland final yes an all Ireland final that is In Parnell park and not the so called national stadium for all gaa people in this country where these women pay their taxes like everybody else. But yet of course the Dublin senior footballers get to play meanigless league matches in croke park and never play in Parnell. So basically Parnell is good enough for these women to play an all Ireland final in but not good enough for a Dublin league match. What sport this gaa is

Desegregate the sports and let both genders play amongst one another. It would be a genuine, solid commitment to equality in the game as opposed to the hollow feel good rhetoric that we're surrounded by these days, and would clear up the fixture, funding controversy that has become an issue in the modern era.

Desegregate and let everyone play together - it's not tag rugby we are talking about! And having men and women (who are very different in terms of physicality) playing against each other is not something that should come under Equality. Don't get me wrong - the sadistic part of me would like to see it but in the real world, no. Just no.

The GAA own Croke Park.

The LGFA have a memorandum of understanding with the GAA but they are a separate entity. And they don't own any stadia. They are lucky they get to use any GAA grounds essentially free of charge.

Yeah.

I'm sure there would be no issues with male players doing shoulders or mistimed neck high challenges on female players

I enjoyed that ladies game, great win for Fermanagh, better than watching that slaughtering session in Croker anyway.

It's not the GAA that persist with this situation, it's the LGFA and Camogie Association.

It's even worse that the latter two don't seem to be able to coordinate to avoid clashes for dual players.

Because its not possible this year and every year see's lots of all ireland finals not played in croke park.
Dublin footballers dont play their league games in Parnell Park because of supply and demand.

I thought the referee gave some very very soft frees ..the yellow card for the Wicklow midfielder was harsh and had a big bearing on the game..

Lots of cavemen on here,,unlike some people I believe in equality, instead of segregating the sports and giving women a pat on the head every time they produce a good moment,,(perhaps we should place gold stars on their foreheads every time they score a point?).
If you truly respected womens ability you would accept their right to mix it with the men.

The gooch was one of the slightest players of his generation, sometimes weighing a couple of stone less than the fellas marking him, shouldering them, tackling them (and thats not counting the off the ball abuse he always got) and played great stuff.

Hang on a minute there now their rulling bodies may not be members of the GAA but the players are, they are members of their GAA clubs and hold GAA memberships (well at least this is the case in the Pale). So be careful where you are going with this one. The GAA like to have their cake and eat it. When Government sports grants are being doled out one criteria is the gender membership and balance, the GAA includes the female memberships for that financial purpose but apparently it entitles the ladies to nothing! GPA and the womens variety are merging, Ladies Football and Camogie will merge fully. So respect where respect is due. A lot of GAA people have very little time for womens sports except for base purposes, but we now in a different century and women need to be treated equally and without favour.

When I was playing I was about 17 1/2 stone standing 6ft 7. What happens when someone like me meets a female player at full tilt with a shoulder? You seriously would like to see that?

In glad there is someone on the same wave length of myself. Women does lots of work within the gaa from makein sure kids get to training every week to fundraising etc. And they are well initiated to be treated with the same respect after training hard all year as the men its only fairness

I agree with you. But look what its came to when it's more enjoyable and exciting watching a junior ladies all Ireland final than an all Ireland senior semi between the leinster and Ulster champions
