Replying To daytona11:  "Yeh fair enough.

Galligan has been good but so have Comerford and Cluxton. Neck and neck at the moment.

I'd imagine if it's a Dublin - Mayo final that Cluxton will get it, especially if they win the AI. But All-Stars based on the Championship to date, it's close."
3 class keepers. Comerford was robbed in 2016 so hopefully he sneaks in this time

Comerford is a seriously underrated GK. Simply because he doesn't play for Dublin or Kerry. He's top class and deserved that Munster title. IMO He is better than Mayo' 's clarke or Kerry's Kealy, just his team is a little under that. . but who knows , he might make a final. Every chance he could.

I don't agree Daytona.Last year Stephen o Brien had a blinder in semi last year and was favourite for poty but did nt get an all star.in 16 Comerford was favourite for all star in goals after semi and he did nt get it either. The semi is big but the final the big decider.

I wouldn't say he was robbed. Himself, cluxton and Clarke that year all had equally good years. I couldn't complain with any of the 3 that year getting it.

Comerford? Is that a wind up ye?

Replying To daytona11:  "Nah I disagree. Cluxton makes them thick. He is one of the reasons they have 10 in a row and are going for 6 All Irelands in a row. If Galligan doesn't concede a heap of goals in the semi we will see then."
What does he do to make them thick? Call them names? 10 Leinster titles in a row has little to do with the all star awards as they are given out based on the past year not past 10 years so not sure where you're coming from there.

The all stars have become a bit stale really.Years ago it was one man one position. Now im not saying it was right but it was better than now.in other words the second best footballer of the year might not get an all star if they were up against the best player for centre back.Players were nominated for one position i.e corner back. Now it was tough.i mean you could have the likes of Michael Murphy David Clifford and Con O Callaghan ANd Cillian O connor going for full forward and only one of them would get an all star.if you did nt play in that position you could nt get an all star in another position.now of course a guy might get an all star and he might not be in the top ten forwards but he was best for his position.

They've always moved lads to accommodate them if they felt it was deserved.

Our own Dermot McCabe got one at wing forward in 97 despite playing every minute at midfield. Likewise Eamonn O'Hara and Anthony Tohill in other years.

Matt Connor got 2 in the half forward line back in the early 80s, while playing almost exclusively in the full forward line.

True. The other issue is that players now can often line out in many different positions over the course of a championship, whereas in the past, they were more likely to play in the same position all year.
I think there has to be an allowance for the All-Star selectors to move players around where needed, but there have been some very strange ones, just to shoehorn a player into the team.

Fair point but picking a player somewhere he does nt play just to fit him in is crazy.

Exactly...numbers on the players backs mean nothing now, players could flit between a number of positions.
I dont really have a problem with shoehorning a player in somewhere if they have been outstanding.

For example this year there will be a lot of competition for midfield allstars, Stephen O'Brien, Bryan Fenton, Gearoid mckiernan, Liam Casey all look like major contenders for midfield therefore Thomas Galligan is likely to get his allstar at no 11 or no 14

In that case could a goalkeeper who really dominates the goal area be shoe-horned in at full back or would that be too tight a squeeze!

I think the final can skew the final selection with someone who has 1 great game dislodging someone who may have had 3 or 4 in earlier rounds.
Of course, the winners will typically deserve the most - to win Sam you will generally have had the best player in most positions on the field.

I can't see anyone outside of the 4 semi finalists getting one. Shane Walsh, Peadar Mogan, Jordan Morris all worth a mention but will lose out. Cork couldn't back up their win against Kerry and Kerry didn't back up their league win.

With that in mind, I'd make the following selection based on a predicted Dublin win on December 19th.

Ray Galligan (unless Cluxton makes a few top saves in the final)

Michael Fitzsimons
Padraig Faulkner
Lee Keegan (after a big final. Oisin Mullen unlucky)

Patrick Duncan
John Small
Robbie McDaid (EOD unlucky)

Brian Fenton
Thomas Galligan

Aidan O'Shea / Niall Scully / Kev McLoughlin. (All down to the final)
Ciaran Kilkenny
Conor Sweeney

Cillian O'Connor
Con O'Callaghan
Dean Rock (Conway unlucky but those 3 and Sweeney are nailed on. He might get a half forward one).

I know I'm being generous to my own county but in the 3 positions GK, FB & MF i do genuinely think they've been the best this year (Fenton aside of course). Before someone should bias, I don't think we'll even get a nomination in the forwards.

Sweeney only got the 1 point from play yesterday but there's no way Tipp can be denied one and he gets it ahead of Quinliven.

I've based the above on the whole championship. Scully for example didn't have a great semi final but was excellent up until then. Could still have a great final.

Thomas Galligan will be lucky to get one after picking up a red Saturday. Usually guys who get sent off in a season very rarely get picked, Had an excellent year though so personally think he should be close to one.

Yeah, I really really hope that doesn't cost him. In truth, he was being dragged out of every time the ball went into him. Should've had a penalty and suddenly we'd be saying he's nailed on because of the trouble he caused the Dublin full back line.

They'll be 8 from Dublin, 3 from Mayo and 2 each from Cavan and Tipp.

Cluxton (Dublin)

Mullen (Mayo)
Fitzsimons (Dublin)
Keegan (Mayo)

Durcan (Mayo)
Small (Dublin)
McLoughlin (Mayo)

Fenton (Dublin)
McCarthy (Dublin)

Quinlivan (Tipp)
T Galligan (Cavan)
Kilkenny (dub)

C'oConnor (Mayo)
con callaghan (Dublin)
A O Shea(Mayo)

That's if you called it today
If Dublin win the final you'll have Rock, Murchin and McDaid in with keegan, O Shea and Durcan going out

If Mayo win the final there should be 13 or 14 Mayo all stars for beating the "greatest team of all time"
