Well done to our wonderful Limerick hurling team. They made hard work of it today but its great to get over the line and be in another AI final.Gearoid Hegarty is some player, not just winning puckputs and taking scores but turning over possession and making scores.I am so proud of this group of Limerick hurlers.Looking fwd to a great AI final with Waterford and If Limerick don't win it well it will be great to see Waterford win it.I remember Ned Power,Tom Cheasty,Frankie Walsh etc from that wonderful Waterford team that beat Kk in the replayed final of 1957,that Waterford team were fantastic hurlers....pure hurlers. A large part of the Limerick game plan is built around throwing the hurling ball. Throwing the ball is now coached and these great players who are the cusdtodians of this game are going to cause long term trouble for the game. How can we get kids to handpass properly when the senior game relies on throwing.

There's a huge difference and I assume you're only trying to get a dig at tipp than actually any form of analysis! Galway clearly worked goals against tipp, they didn't try once today. Limerick might not be scoring goals but that's not for the want of trying. Maybe don't look at the posters county and respond properly rather than getting a dig in!! You just contradict yourself in your post tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 29/11/2020 22:18:22 2316700 Link 1 |
In fairness, not condoning it but Micheal Donoghue, Donal Og Cusack, Henry Sheflin, Brendan Cummins and Davy Fitz all said they thought it was a yellow card..

Clear red card. Major turning point. Also Galway puckouts probably cost them the game, they were brutal. icehonesty (Wexford) - Posts: 2550 - 29/11/2020 22:56:25 2316714 Link 0 |
Galway were never going to beat Limerick today. They need a couple more forwards. Limerick are on a serious mission this year. Unlike in 17 when Cork lost the plot against Waterford in a Semi final and Galway basically beat the fourth best team out of the 4 semi final teams in a final. The days of handy All Ireland's are over. Armchairreporter (Galway) - Posts: 76 - 29/11/2020 23:04:52 2316715 Link 1 |
Is the rulebook wrong?

Not when the rule book is implemented. It was a strike. No intention other than to hurt canning.

Referees need to be instructed to penalise the throws. If a ref blows for a few early on it'll sort it out during the game. Its rife.

Not necessarily having a dig but putting it another way whenever Galway did play long ball into the Limerick inside line, which people thought was suspect, Finn, Morrissey and Nash snuffed out the threat and then the boys moved out the field and while Concannon and Whelan did cause some trouble, overall the threat was minimized, and of course Mannion was a big loss, the fact is Limerick got twenty points from play to Galways ten tells a lot. Now Joe Canning's and later Burke's sideline cutting was exceptional but the question is if any team got maximum return from side line balls in the form of 5 points, they should win. It was you who brought up the issue of goals got against Tipp, which had little to do with the topic of this debate and I would not even have thought of mentioning it otherwise.

The real Canning injury was accidentally inflicted by his own player.

Was there a free given not to mention a yellow card? It was a strike across the back from probably the strongest man on the field with the intent to injure one of the finest hurlers of our time. Hegarty got away with it and got away with a lot of fouling yesterday. The officials were poor. Don't take heed of retired hurlers acting as pundits, they have their own agenda.

Have you ever heard anyone of those pundits call for a red card against a player sure when hogan got sent off in the all Ireland final sheflin was up in arms. Yet it was a red card all day long. Simple clashes happen in hurling it is fierce competitive fast etc but gillane struck the goalkeeper when he had his back turned nothing to do with hurling. And canning got hit in the back also with the hurl not even a 5 year old would attempt a hook like that. Dirty blows each of them. ulsterrules (Donegal) - Posts: 259 - 30/11/2020 08:24:16 2316748 Link 1 |
It is wrong yes. Hegartys slap was a yellow ..it was on handed and the flat of the hurley. It wasnt a red in any way shape or form.

Not a red 'In any way shape or form', a clumsy challenge, a slap across the back' - ye Limerick fellas are hilarious!
