Im really looking forward to this one as I was Galway and Tipp. Both teams have top forwards that can score with ease.Im not sure Hannon will be on Canning this time.I don't think the Galway fb line as weak as people say and Daithi Burke for me is the best fb in the country. Both teams have match winners like Gillane Casey Whelan Concanon but Galway don't depend on Canning totally anymore although he still top scorer so for that reason I have a slight fancy for galway. You basically explained why we are warm favourites in this post and then said it's 50 50 :D

Traditionally you would say that teams coming in the back door had the momentum after winner a few games in a row while the provincial champs waiting for 5 or 6 weeks. But for this game, I don't think you could say the same. Limerick have just beaten 3 great Munster rivals in a row over the last month with there last game only 2 weeks ago winning a cup, so I'm not sure how you could argue Galway have more momentum when they're only on a 1 game winning streak compared to Limerick's 8 game winning streak. I think one or two weeks makes no different to momentum but it is different in that the team with 2 weeks has more recovery time. blackspot91 (Limerick) - Posts: 1055 - 27/11/2020 04:21:38 2315829 Link 1 |
For me it's Limerick by 4/5 points. After the loss to Kilkenny in the semi last year I don't think there will be anything taken lightly and overall their ability to put up big scores will see them in another final. Galway look good but just that little bit of know how seems still to be missing. Should have won against Kilkenny but again Kilkenny just found a way which shows just how difficult they are to beat. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 27/11/2020 07:03:33 2315833 Link 0 |
How does this group of players compare with great Limerick sides of the past? We had a couple of jousts with ye in 80 and 81. Even I'm not old enough to remember the Mackey era but I do recall that Limerick from the mid 70s to the early 80s had some fantastic players in Cregan, big Joe Mac, Ollie O'Connor & Pat Hartigan etc. Maroonatic (Galway) - Posts: 1060 - 27/11/2020 09:02:51 2315839 Link 0 |
Young Cooney at corner back for Gaillimh looks dodgey to me. The goalie was better against Tipp than V KK.

I am an old man, but not old enough to remember Mackey's team. From my reading of it, in hurling Limerick, in the past, produced two really great hurling teams, one from from '17 to'24, the only team to line out in eight Munster Finals in a row and the thirties/early forties side. All I would say is that the current one is easily the best Limerick I saw in my lifetime. We simply never had as good a panel of players as we have now. We had teams who have seven or eight exceptional players but if one or two got injured we were always back to square one. With this team we seem to have the resources to combat these things.

Hard to say really. I couldn't compare them to the iconic 30s team that really dominated the decade with Kilkenny. They obviously had Mick Mackey and the likes of the great Timmy Ryan, Clohessy ,Cross ect. They played a game based around being physically stronger and more powerful than everyone else, but had unreal hurling aswell. Successful limerick teams in all sports traditionally put physical prowess first. This current team are no exception. So we ll have to wait and see how much this team win..They ll certainly need more than one All Ireland to compare to the 30s team I think this Galway is the 2nd best Galway team ever.. The iconic 80s team of the Connollys ,Noel Lane etc al has to come first. I think this current team have brilliant hurlers but again only 1 All Ireland compared to Cyril Farrells 2. This team still have to cement their place in the pantheon. They could do it this year. The jury is out on both this current Limerick and Galway team until they win more. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 27/11/2020 10:16:11 2315861 Link 2 |

This will be Galway's 6th time to play them in the Championship in the last 57yrs since 1963. Galway have won 3 drew 1 and lost 1. katser (Galway) - Posts: 2193 - 27/11/2020 11:06:54 2315879 Link 1 |
And Limerick won the four previous meetings.

Nice statistics. You can manipulate any set of stats. Since 1911 Limerick have beaten Galway 7 times and drew 1. Galway just about got over the line the other 4 times.

We all know that only the past 57 years matters to the players on Sunday. They won't be thinking of anything prior to that. Only the last 57 years.

Dead on- They will not be thinking of last year or the year before never mind what happened 57 years ago or indeed any time before that either.. Once the ball is in on Sunday next old battles are of utterly no relevance.

Galway last 4 All Ireland Semi Final Record katser (Galway) - Posts: 2193 - 27/11/2020 15:44:08 2315956 Link 1 |
I think most Gslway supporters do not expect us to win on Sunday but in the past, Galway teams have often won when least expected so we still have the hope! I thought the All Ireland final this year would be Limerick vs Galway with Limerick probably winning. Nobody likes losing but if it is to happen I would prefer it to be in the semi final. But I do think the winner of the All Ireland will come from this semi final and if we beat Limerick we will do the rest. PoolSturgeon (Galway) - Posts: 1903 - 27/11/2020 19:13:23 2315995 Link 1 |
Oh lads after Waterford v kilkenny. I wont use the word fear but tomorrow's match will be squeaky bum time. I am delighted with the second half performance of Waterford and now feel confident that Galway will be competitive for the full match. Whether they are good enough we will find out tomorrow. All the pressure is on J.Kiely and his team....raging hot favourites to not only win tomorrow but the All Ireland too, Galway are in a great position.... underdogs and haven't set the world on fire with their performances but all the nerves and apprehension will be in the opponents Camp! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2193 - 28/11/2020 20:15:51 2316277 Link 1 |
Sounds like a man clutching at straws. I think Galway could be having a really bad day tomorrow.. I'm afraid two inside forwards and a free taker will not get them past Limerick.

I feel Waterford will beat either of the two sides tomorrow. If they do, most true hurling people, even those from Galway or Limerick, will be happy for them
