I don't think Mayo have ever been found wanting with "stuff on and off the ball", martinjoe, and I certainly have never seen them bullied - not in recent years anyway. Your negative comments about Tipperary call into question the sinceriry of your congratulations.

Shame that a team like Derry won't compete for Sam! Look at the FA Cup! It's the shock of non league and lower division teams progressing that gives the competition novelty! Derry I particular, have a good football tradition and are quite capable of upsetting teams like Donegal and Tyrone in Ulster!

It's a shame that Limerick will be excluded from Sam Maguire as they had an excellent game against Tipp. I am delighted for Tipp and Cavan and would be delighted , despite all the odds to see Cavan beat Dublin. Maybe this is the year for Mayo... I don't think anybody would begrudge them!

Question out of curiosity. Tipp played in green and white today for the bloody Sunday centenary. Was this the original Tipp colours?, when did the blue and gold come? bdbuddah (Meath) - Posts: 1413 - 23/11/2020 01:04:00 2313605 Link 0 |
Nope, no one would begrudge Mayo at all. Definitely not. They have had their fair share of heartbreak recently. It would nice to see Tipp back up their Munster Championship win with a good performance in the semi, and do themselves justice. I think Mayo will be a bridge too far for them. But you never know. I googled it at found this:- Up to about 1925 Tipperary wore the colours of the county champions. In 1925 the present gold hoop on a blue jersey was introduced, taken from the Tubberadora club. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4151 - 23/11/2020 10:11:36 2313686 Link 0 |
Geaney was nt playing but that's Cork Kerry rivalry for you. It's been a dogfight of a munster championship. Tipp beat Clare in a tight game and overcome Limerick in extra time. Cork beat Kerry in extra time and yesterday Tipp beat Cork. Tipp and Cork have been close for years and Cork will always rise for Kerry. Also as we saw history gas a habit of repeating itself and Kerry have never beaten Cork 3 times in succession in pairc Uí Caoimh (they were tyring to do that this year). Like Donegal trying to get 3 in a row yesterday. On the day we were nt good enough and cest lá vie.

Alot of counties have different jerseys to years back. Kerry originally were green and red I think. Cork were blue and yellow. Dublin were royal blue and white and the story behind the sky blue came by accident by bleach in a wash or some accident. Dublin never had navy until the 70s..Dubs played in blue with white cuffs and white shorts. Down played in white shorts in earlier days before going black. Sligo were always white with black trim and only changed to black after beating Kildare in the championship less than 20 years ago. On the present kits Dublin always look well in the navy and sky blue (altho not gone on this years Jersey) and I think Downs kit is awesome. Always like Galway maroon and loved years ago when the wore maroon shorts for a few games. Yesterday Tipp s outfit was class.

Tipp were wearing the Grangemockler jerseys where Michael Hogan was from, back then Counties wore the jerseys of the County champions.

Backdoor should go! I remember in 1960's when Tipp dominated in hurling! Was at the Old Athletic Grounds in Cork in 1963 watching Waterford beat Tipp in first round! Likewise in 1966, Limerick beat Tipp in first round! If there was a backdoor Tipp would have won consecutive all Ireland's from 1960 to 1966. Kilkenny beat Waterford in 1963 and Cork beat Kilkenny in 1966. Tipp contested every all Ireland final bar those 2 years from 1960 to 1968 Rockies (Cork) - Posts: 947 - 23/11/2020 12:43:08 2313882 Link 1 |
Coincidentally Wexford beat Tipp in 1960 and 1968 signaling the beginning and end of Tipp dominance! Rockies (Cork) - Posts: 947 - 23/11/2020 13:58:13 2313973 Link 0 |
I think you were not at Waterford V tipp in 63 in the Old Athletic Grounds- you must be thinking of '59. In '63 Waterford and Tipp played in the final and in Limerick. Limerick won the Minor Final the same day and lost to Wexford afterwards in the AIF
